Mini Twister

A bit of storm damage in town, funnel cloud sightings and a small touch down about 2 blocks from my house. I wasn’t going to bother with the photos, but as the story is all over local news, (along with a host of weather warnings in the area) what the heck.

(Don’t know why, but the comments were malfunctioning on this thread. I’ve rebuilt the post, and they seem to be working now.)

  1. Take heart the BBQ’s are still intact! They can have a fence building bbq;-)

  2. “And of course they’d have to have the customary beer and popcorn.”
Yes, apparently according to the Liberals, there’s government money specifcally for that.

  3. More proof of climate change. 🙂
O/T: Duceppe backs out of PQ race.

  4. A. Cooper, we’re having a sunny day here,OH MY GOD THE EARTH’S BURNING UP AND WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE! In all seriousness, it’s a beatiful day here and I’m going outside!

  5. Ah, front page for the local paper. Somewhere, a small town editor is smiling.

  6. Looks like Bear Crossing in Calgary.
‘cept here it isnt storm damage, the army used to keep it in spiffy shape. now its becoming more one with the land if you get my drift.

  7. How do they make these weather forecasts – when the three radar stations that cover Saskatchewan have been down now for at least a day and a half?

  8. Sorry Kate,
That was a left over from Hans Island, trying to eradicate the ‘Goracle’ effusions of CO2 in Saskatchewan.

  9. Looking at those clouds I half expect to see Charlton Heston come down stone tablets in hand.
SK storms really can be a beautiful thing; too bad for the damage they may cause from time to time.

  10. Kate – it appears that the fence needed to be replaced anyhow. Better go with the chain-link. I see it is still standing.

  11. Bob has it right on the money. This is a testament to the level of rigidity of the structure, not the weather.
At the same time those cloud photos look like a regular summer afternoon – nothing threatening there. Reminds me of those Eastern journalists on the weather network who say “6 feet of snow and the whole town was shut down” but the camera image is taken after the cleanup and there is barely a flake falling. Fails to capture the magnitude.
Anyone wants to see what a cloud that could have spawned a tornado (but didn’t) look like check out these bunch of weather guys who posted pics of the May 12th storm in Saskatoon.
