Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

But Kate, you have to understand,,,,,,,
Yheres still room for a bit more upward movement
The irony, all the good Conservative Newfies are productive Albertans…
Calvert and Williams are birds of a feather. Saskabush and NFLD should get along just fine. And all us knuckledraggin rednecks here in AB sure do thank you socialists just to the east of us for being so kind as to send Esso and their rig our way, way back when Tommy screwed them over…LMAO
Someone please explain over what period of time does a NFLD population of 500,000 require $5 billion of federal transfers? Is there any commercial activity going on there at all? One has to wonder.

I don’t know. When I mined the statscan database I thought it might be an error it was so high…
its just like indian affairs, the gov. sucks up the money not the people.
Newfoundland and Labrador stands to gain more than $5 billion if it accepts the new equalization formula. In other words, that province is going to get significantly more revenue than it is receiving right now from the federal government, so I am not sure what Premier, Danny Williams is complaining about.
Now where can one find a graph comparing how much each province gives the Feds and how much they get in return??
Danny has discovered Quebec socialist budgeting…essentially you either squander your revenues on vote buying handouts or you experience short falls from scaring commerce and industry out of the province with your scary tax and control regimes….then you make up the budget short fall by whining heavily and threatening and politically extorting a large enough equalization payment from Ottawa to fill the budget hole your profligate socialist economics dug in the budget.
Think I’ll star refering to this guy as JoeyII or Danny Marx

Whopperfish Species Not Extinct!
Posted by editor under Provincial Topics, Federal Topics
Scientists are marveling at the re-emergence of the Whopperfish in the premier’s office of the Newfoundland and Labrador government this year, after a period of 15 minutes in which the species was thought extinct.
The Dannyfish, or Blowhardicus Stupidus as known by scientists, is a distant relative of the Smallwoodicus branch of the Whopperfish family. The newest incarnation of this species is easily identified by the family’s general attributes: a mouth the size of the Grand Canyon, a brain that can only be seen under extreme magnification with an electron microscope, and a set of truth-challenged communicative disorders.
Scientists stood enthralled in the premiers office as the Dannyfish regurgitated it’s regular diet of inane accusations, distorted information and Blowhardicus lies. Easily spotted, this newest member of the Whopperfish family has evolved and is now able to use taxpayer money to run its own attack ads over equalization agreements. Scientists are divided over whether taxpayers of Newfoundland and Labrador, or Canada, ended up footing the bill for these ads, because so much of the province’s funding comes from the rest of Canada.
It is thought to be very cunning to use other people’s money to passionately advance your own flawed cause, and scientists were clearly dismayed by the ease with which the Dannyfish was able to adopt this technique again. Clearly, it is a disturbing genetic defect of this species.
Dannyfish and HarperfishThe Dannyfish’s mortal enemy (at the moment) is the Harperfish whose attack consists of a creating agreements that give the Dannyfish exactly what it wants, and then mounting its own advertising rebuttal when the Dannyfish’s single-cell brain is unable to remove its fin from its mouth to consider this newest piece of information. Independent scientists who have also studied the Harperfish note that its attacking and defensive tactics are extremely effective, and have even documented these results in a report.
Although it is too early to tell, scientists believe that the Dannyfish has no natural defense against rebuttal strategies of the Harperfish other than bluster. Clearly, embarassment or apologies for being caught out in “creative lying” are not in the Dannyfish’s genetic makeup. Its only observed response to date has been a feeble claim that the Harperfish is using taxpayer money to mount its rebuttal defense. Obviously, logic and event retention are not part of the Dannyfish’s evolutionary skillset, scientists believe.
The Dannyfish (Blowhardicus Stupidus) is easily regarded by the scientific community as one of the denser, yet egotistical, members of the Whopperfish family. In fact, there is concern that the Dannyfish is rapidly mutating into the first known species of toxic liars. With such a venom, all others in it’s vicinity become deluded into believing what the Dannyfish spews forth, and it is not long before the newly-afflicted commence braying, “more money, more money, send more money, the Great Dannyfish is right, we are lemmings”.
David Suzuki is being brought into this rapidly evolving research project to dream up new global warming reasons for the antagonistic behaviour of the Dannyfish.
There is no known antidote to the Dannyfish and its venomous toxins other than killing off the species through an election.
well now we know where the missing Y2Kyoto hockey stick has gone
lord tunderin jebus boy…..me mom’s from pictou, so I have a little of that sea in me blood….from greenhouse cucumbers, to pogie scams that boggle the mind…wtf else does he want?????the irony here is that my mom fled the maritimes to give her children a better life….now all 8 of her adult children are being taxed to death to support the trough wallowing blowhard and company….mind boggling!
…squeaky wheel gets the grease.
I’m ashamed to see Manitoba on there ahead of Quebec.
Embarrassing, but that’s what you get when you have successive NDP governments. (Hey, at least Saskatchewan is cutting some taxes. The best Gary Doer did is raise our personal exemption by $200. Wooo!)
the whine for wine has been well practiced by the dowanger dame of canadien politics(kweebec) for more than half a century with considerable results in their own favour.
five billion in transfer payments would be welcomed by any half million sized city on a rotating grant basis for one year rather than the continuous outpouring to the outport province.
We are entitled to our entitlements indeed.
this is the canadian disease, expectations of being taken care of.
well, that’s what families are for, not governments.
thank GOD for alberta. i got a life out here, self respect, a family and a decent living.
Danny (the screech owl) williams is at it again. Just goes to show that logic goes out the window when screech goes down the throat.
In the above post it is refered to several times the “government” is giving money to “chief” danny “Fontain” williams and his tribe. (When will it be enough??)Lets put this into perspective. They are getting “OUR TAX DOLLARS”, the govt is just the middle man.
There are egomaniacs and then there’s Danny boy in a class of his own. Of course the CBC just love to feature Danny ranting and raving against Harper and the conservative government but never once has Mansbridge or Newman grilled Danny on the amount of money involved in transfers or question how and why the oil and gas industry in Newfoundland has come to a screeching halt. CBC preference is to give Danny the mike and let him hurl his lies and insults against the PM. Who said CBC is biased against conservatives???????
Maybe bit OT here, but has anyone else wondered why Dion isn’t getting more bad media coverage for NOT going to Vimy?If PMSH had dared not go,can you just imagine the horror, the outrage in msm?Instead, over at the G&M,Galloway is ramping up the spin over the way more important non-story about the lunch/no lunch..which McSquinty has already had to “eat”his words.Absolutely ridiculous, that the lunch story garners all this attention, yet Dion getting free ride about missing Vimy ceremony.Media bias..nah,can’t be!
“dat is not fair”
de vimy did not fit moi schedule and de de part mintof de fenze wass not provide me wit lunch”
” I can not go to where I am citizen of France becuz of poor planning from dis Harper regime”
“we di pipples we doan want no war”

from various sources I get the Dept of Indian Affairs budget at about 5.5 billion and the number of natives at about 1.3 million.
Does that mean that Nfld gets a higher per capita subsidy than the first nations?
sounds like Phil better kick up the whine to a screech to keep up with Danny.

Perhaps you should explain your methodology, because no other studies that I am aware of have found such discrepancies. Newfoundland typically receives slightly less per capita than PEI, and slightly more than N.S. and N.B.
@ Less Ottawa:
Very simple. CANSIM Search for federal transfers both general and specific. General transfers contain CHST transfers, equalization etc. Specific is in the form of federal and provincial level projects.
Then I simply took the population of each province for each year and worked it out PER CAPITA per PROVINCE.
Here’s a screenshot of the data if you don’t believe me:

You should probably carry on any further questions with me about this on my blog as Kate is simply spreading the word and I am not necessarily sure she wants to host the bandwidth for it.
Williams has sort of got that ‘hockey Stick’ thing going there, eh?

When you compare that to the (yikes) $5 billion transfer to 200,000 farmers, Phil and Danny come off like not very gifted amateurs.
Maybe we could capture a few Brits and then see if they will take the Rock back.
Chuck derides Danny; bien sur, Danny b’y.

Today, I declare myself Captain Tin-Foil Hat. I have stopped off at my local hat-maker to take my measurements so that he may fashion a hat of tin more brilliant than any royal crown. I plan to wear it three full seasons until the biting cold forces me into baby seal-skin (harvested on Quebec’s lower north shore and NOT in Danny Williams’ Newfoundland). …-

Danny Williams is a master manipulator. That’s what his hissy-fit was all about. I noted that in a discussion about whether or not he should have run the ads, lots of people were cheering him on with comments like “It’s about time someone stood up for Newfoundlanders.” The sad part is, he isn’t standing up for Newfoundland, he’s screwing them . . . but many don’t realize it. Basically, Danny knows that by pretending to be a champion of the underdogs (as many Newfoundlanders characteristically perceive themselves to be) he can gain support. Much of this is about Danny making sure he gets elected again next fall. It will be a sad day when Newfoundlanders figure out what’s really going on here.
Impeach him.
Hmmmm – Canada shouldn’t have gotten into this “equalisation” business in the first place. One thing I will say, is that Newfoundlanders saw that Quebec’s whines brought in free money, and down here we LIKE free money. Now Ontario etc. thought and probably still think that Quebec is the cross that they have to bear. Newfoundlanders, on the other hand, think that we don’t owe Quebec a God damn thing (consult history books for reasons why). So, as I say, if free money is being passed out we want some. Sure, it’s undignified to whine, but which Canadian politician in the last quarter century has had any dignity?
