As to the definition of “assault rifle”, a term first coined by Hitler to describe the german Mp44. What do you consider assault rifle? Would you call a ruger mini-14 an assault rifle? How about a browning BAR or Remignton 7400 which are semi-auto hunting rifles? What about an AR-10T which is a target version of the armalite AR-10. THey are capable of MOA accuracy which is better than many traditional “hunting” rifles. Rifles that you would call assault rifles can make excellent hunting rifles while many rifles that you would classify as hunting rifles would make handy assault rifles. (Surely you remember Chuck Connors in the old western series “The Rifleman” and how fast he could fire off 10 shots from a winchester lever action)

So enlighten me there Robert. What is your definition of an “assault rifle” and how does it differ from a Remington 7400 or Browning BAR hunting rifle? The difference is in how they look. That is all. They function the same. They all automatically load a cartridge into the breech upon firing. The same as my semi auto shotgun that I use for goose and grouse hunting and sporting clays. So do I have an “assault shotgun”?? Is it unsuitable for hunting? Should it be taken away from me? The Browning BAR is a semi-auto centerfire rifle the same as an AR-10. THe difference is that the AR-10 has a plastic barrel shroud and a pistol grip with a shoulder stock. They function the same, but they look different.

I have talked to many police and some have left wing views like you and others correctly state that “assault rifle” is a made up term by left wing democrats in California to demonize certain guns in order to divide and conquer so that they can break guns into different categories and take them away one segment at a time.
