  1. But the emissions continued after she died…
Why carbon neutral and not carbon negative?

  2. Say what you want about the Green Faith but don’t call them slow.
It took the Roman Church over a thousand years before one could pay money and receive a piece of paper to get delivered from sin.

  3. “Rev. Al Gore declared that “climate change” was “the most important moral, ethical, spiritual and political issue humankind has ever faced.” ”
Hmmm must be that same narrow minded “morality” that made him vote against funded abortion 3 times, against reinstating the Clinton assault weapon ban, censoring the music industry with parental “ratings” on records, and selling off the largest federally owned reserve oil basin in history to his uncle Armand in Occidental Petroleum.
Yes “cousin” Al is a moral upright baptist preacher with all the instincts of a corporate republican…I just love watching these weak minded lefties join his climate bucks cult.

  4. Steyn is an absolute treasure. He’s smart. He writes well. And, as a reviewer once said about the late, great Mike Royko, he has an absolutely infallible bullshit detector.

  5. ” Al’s massive energy consumption is due entirely to his concern about the way we’re depleting the Earth’s resources. When I say “we,” I don’t mean Al, of course. I mean you — yes, you, Earl Schlub, in the basement apartment at 29 Elm St. You’re irresponsibly depleting the Earth’s resources by using that electric washer when you could be down by the river with the native women beating your loin cloth dry on the rock while singing traditional village work chants all morning long.” LOL 🙂
Mark isolates the “NIMBY” gene in climate porn evangelists.

  6. Has anyone else noticed that about the same time support for the Liberal party of Canada began to drop, support for Kyoto, global warming, climate change, Al Gore, David Suzuki, also began to drop?
The more people hear about climate change on Mars the more people wonder about human’s effect on Earth’s climate. I am even begining to wonder if the UV index has more to do with magnetic fields and solar output than ozone depletion and CFCs.

  7. As near as I can tell at this point, Mark Steyn and Lorrie Goldstein are the only two prominent journalists ( there may be others, help me out here )who are pointing out the insanity that has engulfed the world regarding “global warming” including the “carbon credits” madness.
At least in the US they have FOX News and Mark Steyn to blow the whistle on the crackpots like Al Gore, but in Canada MSM ( Goldstein excepted) is already subsumed by the Suzuki and Gore bilge .
One can only hope that Harper never allows Canada to become involved in the asinine ‘carbon emissions trading’ activity that Europe is evidently engaged in.
It has “Ponzi” written all over it.
In the US that would be “Algorzi”

  8. Can I apply to the “club of free carbon credits”
All I need do is lead the way in social responsibility by filming .
A story of a hopeless cause, accompanied by thousands of gas burning boats and huge fireball explosions.
A violent story of the mafia and corrupt police – surely a moral story if their ever was one.
Hollywierd is now putting the “Hip” in hypocrite.
A story of a dysfunctional family in a polluting non-carbon neutral bus, trying to celebrate dysfuntionality as normal.had every quirk except a Wayans brother as an adopted person of colour.
A story of the most over consuming family on earth also wrought with sever ego problems.
A confused story that had the hollywood hicks flying to all corners of the earth to collect on as many airmiles as could be attributed to a space shuttle trip.

  9. “From my perspective, it is a form of religion,” said Bruce Crofts of the East Toronto Climate Action Group, who compared the former vice president to Jesus Christ, ”
    😉

  10. Joe Molnar – there’s also John Ivison of the National Post; Diane Francis of the Financial post, Gwyn Morgan of the G&M. And unbelievably, the G&M wrote a seering critique of Kyoto in an editorial of Feb 16/07.

  11. “I am even begining to wonder if the UV index has more to do with magnetic fields and solar output than ozone depletion and CFCs.”
In 1985 a British Climatological Team in Antarctica discovered the first “hole” in the ozone layer. Hysteria ensued.
As Shakespeare wrote, “A little learning is a dangerous thing.”
The scientists, after studying the phenomenon for a longer period of time realized that it was part of a natural, endless, repetitive cycle. The change in ozone over the Antarctic a will continue to exist, for as long as the Earth’s axis tilts back and forth.
The atmosphere contains O2 molecules, and ultraviolet light from the Sun converts them to ozone. After the Southern Hemisphere solstice, the Sun begins its journey northward again, and the “hole” at the Antarctic Circle starts to “grow” again.
If ozone depletion was caused by CFC’s wouldn’t the holes have appeared over the populated areas of the Earth?

  12. Me , I’m taking a wait and see , stance on this whole thing . If things keep spinning the way they are though , none of you be suprised when you see Reverend Bill as the first televised Eco-vangelist . PRAISE GAIA ,BROTHERS and SISTERS…and keep those ….cough , cough …donations flowing . Eco-Salvation ,AND a carbon offset lifestyle all in one easy payment .

  13. ET,
Not surprised that the lobe pulled apart Kyoto….there are some vestiges of intelligence left there and on occasion Greenspon gets it right, rarer and rarer these days.
It is hard not to see Kyoto as the false cross that it is, simply becase it imposes costs while leaving major loopholes and not solving the “problem”.
The Globe hasnt quite committed to CO2 as the problem of clear and present danger but it is inching its way there. They have left backdown room.
But there are few that are unequivocally calling CO2 as not the main driver, Goldstein, Solomon, Gunter, Morgan…..I am sure the editorial meetings at the Globe on this topic are fractious for sure.

  14. algore is being compared the Jesus Christ, and stepping fwd —–. My question is, remember the end of Jesus Christ. Will algores end be televised or on pay for view. Is that why they have supposedly found Christ’s tomb, so algore will not be nailed to the Cross, as the kyotologists will say it never happened.

  15. Cal:
“Indulgences” also allowed you to “pre-repent” for sins not yet commited by pre-paying for a “get-out-of-pergatory” card.
It is the most appropriate description for the carbon credit sales scam that is being pushed by those who either have too much money to count, or who want to use other people’s money, to gain forgiveness in the Carbon Church.

  16. the “Auschwitz” comment was one of Steyn’s better lines (amoung many) in a long time.

  17. “From my perspective, it is a form of religion,” said Bruce Crofts of the East Toronto Climate Action Group, who compared the former vice president to Jesus Christ, both men being (as the Globe And Mail put it) “great leaders who stepped forward when called upon by circumstance.”
I mean, cooler. All the movie stars are doing it. In fact, this year’s Oscar goodie-bag that all the nominees get included a year’s worth of carbon offsets. Totally free. So even the stars’ offsets are offset. No wonder that, when they’re off the set, they all do the offset. Look at Leonardo DiCaprio: He’s loaded with ’em, and the chicks think he’s totally eco-cool.
the terrorist mastermind doesn’t deplete a lot of resources. Which means Tipper can watch Al give a speech on a widescreen plasma TV, where Al looks almost as wide as in life, and she doesn’t have to feel guilty because it all comes out . . . carbon-neutral!
These three statements including the fact that most billionaires now own portions of this bogus carbon credit scam say’s it all. That the foolish of Hollywood believe this nonsense is no surprise. Nor the UN who have hatched this years ago for gain.
About all what one needs to know about this money grab & its ultimate end. Now we know the How, why, where, & motive for this criminal plot by lefties for global dominance with a money transfer scam to enrich themselves. To become an even more exclusive Elite branch of aristocrats.
Mark Steyn & his fellow “Voices in the wilderness” are to be commended as hero’s. In the end Blogs like this, writers with principles, & normal folks of all walks of life will have to stand up to this faux Religion based on nature worship. If we don’t the luddites & Barbarians win.
Mark always does it with flare mixed with entertainment , dipped in the barbs the foolish so handily supplied to him by their own hypocrisies dressed in self righteousness.
    Just my opinion.
    Just my opinion

    STEPHEN HAWKING WILL GO ZERO-G:

“Dr. Hawking says he wants to encourage public interest in spaceflight, which he believes is critical to the future of humanity. . . . “Life on Earth,” he said, “is at the ever-increasing risk of being wiped out by a disaster, such as sudden global nuclear war, a genetically engineered virus or other dangers we have not yet thought of.”…-

  19. Only one reason for algore’s massive electric bill: the entire basement must be a grow-op.
Based on the Reverend’s behaviour, he’s growing some killer weed down there!

What is also amazing is how wall to wall Media fear-mongering scared the public, for awhile at least, into swollowing Suzuki/Gore propaganda.

  21. Dr. Tim Ball was researching the hundreds of years of The Hudson Bay Company’s climate records while Suzuki was watching fruit flys. Tim KNEW that the Earth’s climate was/is/always changing before Gore could read a preacher’s tele-prompter !!
Global Warming: The Cold, Hard Facts?
    By Timothy Ball
    Monday, February 5, 2007
Global Warming, as we think we know it, doesn’t exist. And I am not the only one trying to make people open up their eyes and see the truth. But few listen, despite the fact that I was one of the first Canadian Ph.Ds. in Climatology and I have an extensive background in climatology, especially the reconstruction of past climates and the impact of climate change on human history and the human condition. Few listen, even though I have a Ph.D, (Doctor of Science) from the University of London, England and was a climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg. For some reason (actually for many), the World is not listening. Here is why.
What would happen if tomorrow we were told that, after all, the Earth is flat? It would probably be the most important piece of news in the media and would generate a lot of debate. So why is it that when scientists who have studied the Global Warming phenomenon for years say that humans are not the cause nobody listens? Why does no one acknowledge that the Emperor has no clothes on?
Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification. For example, Environment Canada brags about spending $3.7 billion in the last five years dealing with climate change almost all on propaganda trying to defend an indefensible scientific position while at the same time closing weather stations and failing to meet legislated pollution targets.
No sensible person seeks conflict, especially with governments, but if we don’t pursue the truth, we are lost as individuals and as a society. That is why I insist on saying that there is no evidence that we are, or could ever cause global climate change. And, recently, Yuri A. Izrael, Vice President of the United Nations sponsored Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) confirmed this statement. So how has the world come to believe that something is wrong?
Maybe for the same reason we believed, 30 years ago, that global cooling was the biggest threat: a matter of faith. “It is a cold fact: the Global Cooling presents humankind with the most important social, political, and adaptive challenge we have had to deal with for ten thousand years. Your stake in the decisions we make concerning it is of ultimate importance; the survival of ourselves, our children, our species,” wrote Lowell Ponte in 1976.
I was as opposed to the threats of impending doom global cooling engendered as I am to the threats made about Global Warming. Let me stress I am not denying the phenomenon has occurred. The world has warmed since 1680, the nadir of a cool period called the Little Ice Age (LIA) that has generally continued to the present. These climate changes are well within natural variability and explained quite easily by changes in the sun. But there is nothing unusual going on.
Since I obtained my doctorate in climatology from the University of London, Queen Mary College, England my career has spanned two climate cycles. Temperatures declined from 1940 to 1980 and in the early 1970’s global cooling became the consensus. This proves that consensus is not a scientific fact. By the 1990’s temperatures appeared to have reversed and Global Warming became the consensus. It appears I’ll witness another cycle before retiring, as the major mechanisms and the global temperature trends now indicate a cooling.
No doubt passive acceptance yields less stress, fewer personal attacks and makes career progress easier. What I have experienced in my personal life during the last years makes me understand why most people choose not to speak out; job security and fear of reprisals. Even in University, where free speech and challenge to prevailing wisdoms are supposedly encouraged, academics remain silent.
I once received a three page letter that my lawyer defined as libellous, from an academic colleague, saying I had no right to say what I was saying, especially in public lectures. Sadly, my experience is that universities are the most dogmatic and oppressive places in our society. This becomes progressively worse as they receive more and more funding from governments that demand a particular viewpoint.
In another instance, I was accused by Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki of being paid by oil companies. That is a lie. Apparently he thinks if the fossil fuel companies pay you have an agenda. So if Greenpeace, Sierra Club or governments pay there is no agenda and only truth and enlightenment?
Personal attacks are difficult and shouldn’t occur in a debate in a civilized society. I can only consider them from what they imply. They usually indicate a person or group is losing the debate. In this case, they also indicate how political the entire Global Warming debate has become. Both underline the lack of or even contradictory nature of the evidence.
I am not alone in this journey against the prevalent myth. Several well-known names have also raised their voices. Michael Crichton, the scientist, writer and filmmaker is one of them. In his latest book, “State of Fear” he takes time to explain, often in surprising detail, the flawed science behind Global Warming and other imagined environmental crises.
Another cry in the wildenerness is Richard Lindzen’s. He is an atmospheric physicist and a professor of meteorology at MIT, renowned for his research in dynamic meteorology – especially atmospheric waves. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and has held positions at the University of Chicago, Harvard University and MIT. Linzen frequently speaks out against the notion that significant Global Warming is caused by humans. Yet nobody seems to listen.
I think it may be because most people don’t understand the scientific method which Thomas Kuhn so skilfully and briefly set out in his book “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions.” A scientist makes certain assumptions and then produces a theory which is only as valid as the assumptions. The theory of Global Warming assumes that CO2 is an atmospheric greenhouse gas and as it increases temperatures rise. It was then theorized that since humans were producing more CO2 than before, the temperature would inevitably rise. The theory was accepted before testing had started, and effectively became a law.
As Lindzen said many years ago: “the consensus was reached before the research had even begun.” Now, any scientist who dares to question the prevailing wisdom is marginalized and called a sceptic, when in fact they are simply being good scientists. This has reached frightening levels with these scientists now being called climate change denier with all the holocaust connotations of that word. The normal scientific method is effectively being thwarted.
Meanwhile, politicians are being listened to, even though most of them have no knowledge or understanding of science, especially the science of climate and climate change. Hence, they are in no position to question a policy on climate change when it threatens the entire planet. Moreover, using fear and creating hysteria makes it very difficult to make calm rational decisions about issues needing attention.
Until you have challenged the prevailing wisdom you have no idea how nasty people can be. Until you have re-examined any issue in an attempt to find out all the information, you cannot know how much misinformation exists in the supposed age of information.
I was greatly influenced several years ago by Aaron Wildavsky’s book “Yes, but is it true?” The author taught political science at a New York University and realized how science was being influenced by and apparently misused by politics. He gave his graduate students an assignment to pursue the science behind a policy generated by a highly publicised environmental concern. To his and their surprise they found there was little scientific evidence, consensus and justification for the policy. You only realize the extent to which Wildavsky’s findings occur when you ask the question he posed. Wildavsky’s students did it in the safety of academia and with the excuse that it was an assignment. I have learned it is a difficult question to ask in the real world, however I firmly believe it is the most important question to ask if we are to advance in the right direction.

  22. The reason for Al Gore’s 20x the average electrical bill is the grow-op he’s got in the basement ?
That’s excellent ! now it’s all making sense to me…
and on this note of the ridiculous, are buying carbon credits tax deductable ?

  23. 221,000 kilowatt hours? The Gore-bot needs to make his circuits more energy efficient.

  24. Interesting development coming next week; a British TV station is airing a documentary entitled “The Great Global Warming Swindle” featuring notable scientists who debunk the role man plays in GW. The documentary reportedly takes on some of algore’s assertions. For more information click here
    Should provoke some interesting debate…

  25. i If ozone depletion was caused by CFC’s wouldn’t the holes have appeared over the populated areas of the Earth?
    NO!!!!!!!
that is the type of simplification thatgets us in these “bullshit” situations
the “holes” would appear were the “weather” system dictates
and me, I’m just sitting here still waiting for that ICEage the wuz promised back in the 70T’s

  26. Al Gore is a hypotcrit i mean all the time he was traveling all over the world promoting this GLOBAL WARMING poppycock nonsense he was putting all that CO2 into the atmosphear and think of all that additional CO2 emmited by him when he arived at the accademy awards show to recieve his undeserved oscar

  27. One man crossed Canada for a cause Terri Fox, running/walking, with one leg, using little or no emmissions. Great Hero. Rick Hanson crossed canada and the world in a wheelchair for a great cause. Great Hero.
Today, we have an idiot driving a huge diesel spewing bus for a money scam to end all scams. Not a hero in many cdns books.
Saw May on tv today, why is she getting so much tv exposure, she hasn’t decided where to run, the greens have no seats, she will never form the govt or opposition after the next election, and I doubt if they elect anyone, they would gain party standing. What does she stand for, and why would cdns elect someone who takes their orders from the green headquarters in Europe. I would like to see a riding by riding poll to see where any party has support. I think people are parking their vote there during polls, just to confuse the media.

  28. Suzuki Poll running on full “automagic” (oops)!
    Update:
It would seem that even though the poll has disappeared from the Suzuki Foundation’s website, voting results continue to rack up, that’s weird.
Where are they voting from? The numbers are getting even worse for David Suzuki and gang.
    […]
o Note: The blogger doesn’t understand what’s happening but the explanation is simple. People are continuing to vote on the cached copy at Google where the poll is still available. I just entered my vote and it’s at 17,779 for the good guys as of the moment….-

  29. I sincerely hope the bubble doesn’t pop on the Global Warming racket until after the Canadian federal election.
The Canadian MSM got into the act with an eye to getting the Liberals back in power, but it has blown up in their faces.
In every newscast and newspaper, they’ve spewed Gore’s garbage as though it were fact, thinking that Stephane le Vert (with the scarves to prove it!) would reap the spoils of freaking out the Canadian electorate. Last week, they were blaming earthquakes on human-caused climate change.
To that extent, their plan worked. They shaped public opinion, driving “the environment” to the top of every list of things that matter most to Canadians.
The only problem with the plan is that it worked too well. Dion’s record of being a hump on the environment – when he had the chance to do something about it – was too much to stomach for most… and they headed for the Greens.
I’m afraid the day is fast approaching when Dion, the CBC, CTV, the T.O. Star, the Globe & Mail, etc., will realize that the issue they created to help the Liberals… is carving the left side off the party. And when they do, the issue of “man-made global warming” will go away.
And as soon as a Green Party equivalent develops in the U.S. – to the detriment of the Democrats – the same thing will happen there.

  30. Cached by google:
You’ve already voted on this poll
Can Canada meet its Kyoto target?
Yes, and we can do it through domestic reductions.

    (9.09%)
Yes, but we’ll have to buy some international credits to do it.
    372
    (1.77%)
No, but we should still try.
    773
    (3.68%)
No, so we shouldn’t bother trying.

the “holes” would appear were the “weather” system dictates—“”
GYM as much as I would like to defer to your expertise in simple, not to mention your thoughtful, reasoned debating style and magnificent vocabulary I must disagree.
Weather certainly acts with dictatorial powers but I see no evidence that it loads up the CFC’s and deports them to the poles.

  32. Tim Ball was run out of an Ottawa commitee meeting years ago for suggesting that more study is needed to determine if all the hype about the ozone hole is necessary.
Any bets that Tim will be shown to have been correct all along ???
The link below, a Tim Ball interview with a Pittsburg reporter, is so telling. He completely destroys Suzuki’s alarmist propaganda.
Why do the Canadian Media praise a fruit-fly watcher and ignore a Great Canadian Climatologist. Perhaps the MSM are setting themselves up for a Mother-of-all-Lawsuits.

  33. Dan Riel has a fascinating post ->
Gore Funding Plan For “A New World Order”
Gore is quietly funding an assault on Capitalism as we know it, one that begins but doesn’t end with Global Warming. That’s only the model for what’s coming next.
Sans news conferences and Oscar nods, it’s a well-funded, grand design to re-shape, not just America, but the global economy in such a manner so as to inculcate Liberal values into the world’s system of finance.
Defeated at the ballot box, it seems Gore has figured out that if he can follow, or perhaps even lead the money, he and other liberals can bring about the social and economic change they want, whether the middle class likes it, or not.
    http://www.riehlworldview.com/carnivorous_conservative/

  34. Dan Riel’s post is interesting, but… he’s talking about Al Gore. Gore is about as threatening as a Teletubby and has even less political panache. An Al World Order? Not even Agent Mulder would buy that one.

  35. That BBC documentary which will be out soon has quite the comments section. Seems like we might be hearing the question….. who has been conning us….. and why?
Will the media be humbled or try to redirect the blame? I await with anticipation.

  36. So Gore made his money from Occidental petroleum…
Isn’t that the company that killed 18000 people in India when its chemical plant blew up because it was unsafe?

  37. THEIR CREEPY AND THEIR KOOKIE.MYSTERIOUS AND SPOOKIE. THEIR ALL TOGETHER OOKIE.THE ECO-HYPOTCRITS dont to the ADDAMS FAMILY theme song

  38. How does one prove that the money spent for carbon credits goes anywhere else but the pocket of the seller. Where are the tree, where are the projects they talk about, who has money invested in those scam companies. And, how do you know for sure that all that organic food in the supermarket is really organic, not just put in a bag that says so. And how do you know for sure that the junk food you buy, (chips etc) really has or doesn’t have the right kind of fat. Same with any other product. And how do you know for sure that all those clothing products made in other countries were not produced by child labor.
We depend on labels to tell us, but labels can lie. With the increase in dishonesty in the corporate world, who can believe anything. Gee, RIM is in trouble, seems there was a 250 million accounting error. Try that on your 2006 tax return. Seems to be a lot of accounting errors lately.
Seems organic food is causing more illness than non organic food. There was a reason, years ago, that people demanded pkg food, processed food, to kill bacteria. Notice no one is advocating for organic milk. Back then real scientists discovered real problems and solved them.
