  1. Jayce, a Moroccan Muslim, living in Tel Aviv for the past 10 years, just published a book in French about his story. From Ynet News :
“On Tel Aviv University’s campus, Fayce said, he encountered Israeli Arabs who found it difficult to understand what he was doing in Israel. “One of them asked me, ‘why did you choose to study here? Why not go to Egypt?’ I replied: Why should I go to Egypt, the education here is much better. He was very insulted, and called me a ‘traitor.’ I asked him who I was betraying, and he said, ‘us,'” Fayce recounted.
“I told him, ‘let me say something that you don’t know. You are the only the Arabs in the world who know what democracy is. There is no other place that can you criticize so openly like this. If you did it in Morocco, you’d find yourself in jail. If you don’t like it here, why don’t you go study in Egypt,” he added.”

    http://www.thefire.org
FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) is an American group that fights tooth and nail for free speech on campuses. Although FIRE is predominantly made up of conservatives, and many of their cases involve protecting conservative voices, they take delight in protecting speech from all sides of the political spectrum.
This group has been wonderfully effective. They have convinced a number of universities to alter their codes of conduct to remove “speech codes” that inhibit free speech. Such speech codes often prohibit offensive jokes or remarks, or almost anything that makes people feel uncomfortable. Such speech codes are often interpreted by universities in favour of left-wing groups to the detriment of the political right.
I read it almost every day. FIRE often describe cases that beggar belief.

It has been announced that he will receive the Order of Canada for all the work he did through his New Life Ministries in Winnipeg’s inner city. Sadly we lost the good Rev to pancreatic cancer on Nov 11/06 He was however told of the award a few weeks before his passing

I have been looking over a report from the International Council for Capital Formation in the costs to Germany of the Kyoto protocol. 10. Gambian President’s cure for AIDS: green paste & bananas (Islamic medicine)
Jammeh has so far refused to disclose details of his herbal concoction, saying only that the treatment uses seven plants – “three of which are not from Gambia.” The treatment begins with the president applying the green paste, stored inside a deli-style plastic container. Next is a gray-colored solution, which he splashes on the patient’s skin. It is stored inside an old Evian bottle, as is the yellowish, tea-like brew which patients are asked to drink. The therapy is administered numerous times over the course of several weeks.
After treating the original nine, Jammeh emerged from his black-tinted treatment chamber, carrying a tall wooden staff, a string of Islamic prayer beads and a leather-bound Quran.
In front of him, 30 new patients waited on lawn chairs, drawn like the first batch from the roughly 20,000 people currently living with HIV in Gambia.
He told them that during treatment, they must cease drinking alcohol, tea and coffee. They also cannot eat kola nuts or have sex.
Jammeh held up a leather-bound copy of the Quran, pointing it at each of the patients in turn: “In the name of Allah, in three to 30 days you will all be cured,” he said.

  11. Is anybody else struck by the scary fact that the Liberals have “entrusted” socialist Bob Rae to draft their next Red Book?
Bob Rae – nephew of one world marxist rule Kyoto God supporter of all world regimes as long as they are communist Maurice Strong?
Bob Rae – brother of PowerCorp VP John Rae – the Canadian elite arm of Maurice Strong and benefactor of every PM since Trudeau?
Bob Rae – Golden tongued Liberal media darling who has never been one to let facts or reality stand in the way of a good scam to get taxpayer dollars out of your hands and into those of fellow socialists – all in the name of sexy sounding slogans like “social justice” or “honest brokers in the world”.
Another Red Book of slogans and heart tugging platitudes sure to be lapped up by the Liberal media and with Canada’s most powerful power brokers behind him?
I’m very worried for my country. Anybody else?

  13. There has been a lot of TO and Ont. bashing over the years, but I think they are owed a big thank you for trying to meet kyoto targets all by themselves.
    1. Closure of several manufacturing plants, including a tire plant and auto plants.
    2. Due to a fire, 75 gas stations are out of gas, thus causing problems for many car and truck owners, in their quest to get to work, (unless they were/are employed at above plants)
    3. Cdn tire stations out of gas, thus causing potential shoppers to go elsewhere or do without.
And all those affected by the above actions are convinced that meeting targets will not have any effect on their personal lives.
I do hope non of those needing gas were on their way to deliver a seriously ill patient to the hospital. They should have taken a bus.

  15. Conservatives tried to get Liberals to at least extend the anti-terrorism laws for another 9 months so they could be used for the Air India investigations.
When this comprimise got to Dion he turned it down and now has also decried the vote to be a three line whip – that means all Liberals MUST show up and they MUST vote against the extention. The “consequence” according Dion if they do not follow his edict is that he will refuse to sign their nomination papers.
In other words – only Dion YES MEN & WOMEN will be allowed to even run for the Liberal party in the ele3ction – even IF the Liberal constituency associations want to choose their own MP Dion will veto anyone who denies him the right to be sole thinker and control freak.
That is what Dion must mean when he says they have a “collegial” caucus. Do as I say and we’ll get along just fine.

    Mugabe celebrates as Zimbabweans seethe
JOHANNESBURG: President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe turned 83 Wednesday to the strains of the song “God Bless President Mugabe” on state-controlled radio, a broadcast interview on state television, a 16-page paean to his rule in Harare’s daily newspaper and the prospect of a birthday party costing 300 million Zimbabwe dollars — about $65,000 at black market currency rates — Saturday.
Across the country, bread vanished from store shelves Wednesday after bakeries shut down, saying government price controls were forcing them to sell loaves at a loss. The price controls are supposed to shield consumers against inflation, which now averages nearly 1,600 percent annually.
In Harare, the capital, the police banned demonstrations and political gatherings in the city’s sprawling townships, citing the threat of looting and vandalism. Slum-dwellers had clashed with police Sunday after the police blocked a court-approved rally by Mugabe’s political opponents.
Mugabe’s critics called the ban an act of desperation, and some said that Zimbabwe’s deepening economic crisis was beginning to goad ordinary citizens into political action despite the threat of arrest and beating.
“It’s a sign of panicking by the regime,” Lovemore Madhuku, who heads the nation’s largest civil-society group, the National Constitutional Assembly, said in an interview by telephone from Harare. “It’s also a signal that this regime will go down fighting. They’re showing that they will continue to rely on brute force to stay in power.”
The decline in the Zimbabwean economy and quality of life is accelerating. ..-

  17. Right, Lorraine – Dion is indeed a ‘control freak’. Remember how his first few days as the newly appointed leader were spent in bashing Harper? With Dion calling Harper a ‘control-freak’? No, it’s Dion who is the control freak. He treats his MPs as his undergrad students; you do what HE says. Or else, he’ll throw you out of the class.
Can you imagine- either vote his way, or he won’t sign your nomination papers.
By the way, apparently the Liberal dominated Senate wants to CONTINUE the anti-terrorist legislation. But, Dion, the Liberal ‘leader’ (that has to be in quotes), won’t allow it.
As you say, the Conservatives have asked that the legislation be extended even for 9 months, to allow the Air India papers to be viewed and the inquiry to continue. Dion won’t allow it.
What is the matter with him? His behaviour is so outlandish, so hostile to the good of the country, that….
What has he done so far? Two months ago, he began his leadership by juvenile name-calling of Harper, calling him ‘far-right’, a ‘control-freak’, and commenting on his weight. We had a few weeks of silence over the Xmas break.
Then, since parliament resumed, he moved onto Kyoto, pushing through a bill that everyone knows is practically, economically and operationally impossible. Why? To activate the bill would economically devastate the country. Is that what he wants?
Then, he’s refused to prolong the anti-terrorist act, despite high level Liberals saying it is necessary. Despite pleas from the gov’t that it is required for the Air India inquiry. Does he want that inquiry shut down? That was the gist of Harper’s remarks in QP today.
Then, he’s insisting that 1/3 of Liberal nominations must be women – ignoring the wishes of the local constituents and moving into an outdated ‘affirmative action’ controlling action.
He informed us that he would vote against the Conservative budget, before he’d even seen it (he’s stopped talking that way now).
He knows nothing of economics, nothing of foreign affairs, nothing of financial issues. And he treats his MPs as if he were the Boss Professor and they were his undergrad students who must do as he says or he won’t mark their papers.
His few supporters say he’s brilliant. No, he isn’t; he has a PHD in sociology, probably the easiest department in which to get a degree. No publications or books that I am aware of.
But he does like to control ideas and get people to accept HIS ideas. He belongs in the classroom where he can pontificate on his ideas and know that they will never, ever, have to be put into actual real life.

  19. My heart goes out to the families of the victims of the Air India disaster. Just as they were, possibly, going to get to the bottom of the botched inquiry which, under the Liberals, went on for years, and to discover who, exactly, was responsible for the disaster, Citoyen Dion essentially closes down the new inquiry. Nice play, professor.
I can’t see this playing out well for either him or the LPC unless, that is, the MSM turn a blind eye to the despicable game Dion is playing and refuse to expose him for the desperate little despot he is.
Is it possible that Canadians will FINALLY begin to see the totalitarian bent of the LPC? For all the Librano$’ bluster about being open, tolerant, and diverse, they actually toe a very tight and malicious party line.

  22. Friday should be a very important day for several liberal MPs. Are they going to vote for what is best for Canada, or take the chance of being defeated in the next election, even if Dion signs their papers. Will they admit, at least to themselves, that a huge mistake was made last Dec. by electing Dion. Perhaps they will have the guts to do what others before them have done when disagreeing with their leader. They fell into the trap Harper set for them today. Todays actions will be all over the net and news etc for days, and will gain attention after Friday’s vote.

  23. its even funny how Borat Dion got trapped today.
now he looks like he will have to whip the boys into a no law and order vote.
that plays well everywhere doesnt it?

  25. What is to stop those liberals that are being whipped, against their will, to vote as they please, and knowing they wont be candidates next time, to vote with the Government to keep their seats and paycheques for a few more months.
Will Dion kick them out of caucus. Hey, Harper might get his majority without even trying. Wonder what garth turner is thinking about this. Did he pound his desk today.
Since Dion is trying to steal female candidates
from the NDP, has he considered the way people think of women who can’t make up their minds as to which side to support. You have to wonder what he is promising them.
