We were outnumbered by pro-Hezbollah types at least 10 to one, maybe 15 to one. The cops put a large no-man’s land between us and them. We had a bunch of Israeli flags and one megaphone. The other side had a superior sound system, probably paid for by CUPE, who were there in droves, carrying large pink (?) banners.
Typical of every Toronto demo, the Socialist Worker was there too, hawking their ugly newspaper, this one with a MUMIA VS US IMPERIALISM headline. The Communist Party of Canada is so stupid they were handing out brochures with Green Helmet on the cover; one of us explained who he was, told her to google “green helmet”, and the women was apparently a little taken aback. Who knows: maybe a convert was made to the right side of history.
Also lots of what I call “Oka flags” were highly visible on the pro-terror side — surprise!
I have a feeling the pro-Hez gang is planning to make this a semi-regular event, so hey, if you missed this one, believe me: there will be others. Unfortunately. It would be nice if we could outnumber them at least once.
PS: it was nice meeting up with some readers of this blog, too. Rich, if you make me one of your INFIDEL hats I promise to wear it next time.
WC, I do understand exactly how you feel. Some seem comfortable with the idea of “learning to live” with terrorism. This is incomprehensible to me. I am determined that my grandchildren will not live in their world. My generation helped enable this threat, and we have a duty to end it forever, even if it ultimately takes WWIII to do it.
I have been reeling for years since realizing the International Left was allying with terrorists. Ironically the vile and insane comments of Canadian leftists on the old CBC comment forums opened my eyes to this shocking fact. That was before the CBC closed the forum down for seemingly forever for “maintenance”. I like to think the Chretien government could take me spittin the truth on their (your) dime.
I think these people will become increasingly marginalized as terrorists escalate this conflict. Even though they’re both jackboots, the Communists and Communist-Lites (Socialists) cannot ideologically sustain this alliance with the “Party of God” jihadis forever.
I think the Canadian public will come around as events unfold. France is the only (formerly?) western nation where the future looks bleak IMHO.
Tom, I too feel the same way. With six beautiful Grand children I have no intention of acquiescing my duty as a parent or Grand Parent for the sake of anyone or anything. Period. My father, that just died short of his 90th birthday probably summed up the events of today best. He said this is the same as the thirties, same people protesting, in the same way about the same things they really new nothing about. When asked who the same people were he said Commies and government workers. I guess things don’t change, just the names. His best line was, who cares about a wolf in sheep’s clothing, there easy to tell apart, it’s the Judas goat in sheep’s clothing you have to worry about, they think they are the same as you.

I cant beleive you guys compare the israeli suffering done by hezbollah to the lebanese suffering done by a terrorist state. Islam is not the death cult, its ISREAL THATS THE DEATH CULT. Re the Calgary “Peace Rally”
After spending a little time downtown today, I basically came away shaking my head.
From meeting with the executive director of the Calgary Police Commission (non-operational), I was left with the very clear impression that the extreme political correctness in which we find ourselves is the way it is so…..
Read – it is o.k. to fly the Hesbollah flag at the base of our war memorial in a protest rally…. so it may not fit in with your (my) value system, it is the way it is. Not her direct quote but certainly this is what it boils down to.
The rally permit was made in the name of the Calgary District Labor Council. Apparently no details re the rally, the speakers, the whatever, are required on an application.
The person who approved the permit was Garry Cook
from the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Calgary. He had little idea of what this particular rally was all about and was kind enough to hear me out. There are people much higher than he is in the hiearchy who should be concerned but….
Should anyone want to express their concern(s), his phone number is 403-221-4563. Hopefully we will not see another such rally at Memorial Park.
Madeline King is the city alderman rep in which the park is located. She is now aware of the fact that this rally took place and that the Hez flag was flown.
The local phone-in program had some discussion about the rally this a.m. (Mon) and in particular the flying of the Hez flag. The stucture of the program is such that there are not to many phone- ins so it is hard to guage if there was any impact or not. CHQR 770 has a wide listening audience in these parts.
The Calgary Herald had no coverage of any of the goings on. The Sun had a very small, inconsequential item of about 5″ of one column. Sad but not surprising.
The question really becomes – who really gives a damn and do we have enough numbers to make a difference
I just want to say that i do agree with alot of the people here about what went down at the rally.I’m 100% Canadian and i’m very proud to be a Canadian and i don’t believe in what those protester’s were doing waving a Hez flag anywhere except for were it came from and if i see a HEZ flag being waved where ever i go,i will do whatever it takes to get that flag either put away or burn it.You’s that have had permission to live legally in CANADA should consider themselve’s very,very lucky to even be here and enjoying a better life style instead of living in fear were the next “bomb” is going to hit or the next person to get shot down to the ground,so do yourselve’s a favour and keep your Hez flags at home and wave the Canadian flag it just might restore your self confidence and the freedom you’s now have or maybe waving the HEZ flag is your way of saying,”I want to go back to my home land”i don’t like it here no more!!!.Our government would be more than happy to send you back were you’s came from.I sure won’t miss you’s and your pitty protest rally’s and your Hez flag.Take your flag and shove it were the sun don’t shine cause we don’t need to be subjected to it at all disgracing our fallen Soldiers at the memorial site and if you do it there you are also disgracing every other Canadian Soldier that has given his or her life to give us the freedom and the land we live on to this very day.
Supporting an outlawed organization ( Hezbollah) is a criminal offense in Canada and arrest can be arbitrary without warrant under the anti-terror act…where are the arrests? We see the Hezbollah flag flown in pardes that Liberal and PQ politicians partake in….openly committing crimes of subversion according to our laws.
Has Canadian federal rule of law become as two tiered as the rule of law in Caledonia?
Hez is only outlawed in three countries in the whole world. If you’re ignorant enough to think that these three countries say this because its true and has nothing to do with the fact that Israel and america are trying to control the middle east then I pity you. Even the UN says that Hez is not a terrorist organization and if any of you knew what you were talking about you would realize that.
