Taliban use children as shields to fight British – TALEBAN fighters used women and children as human shields as they tried to escape into the mountains of Afghanistan, British troops claimed yesterday.
The tactics were revealed in the first account by those who fought in one of the main battles faced by the men of 3 Para and the Royal Gurkha Rifles in Helmand province, where 3,300 British troops are stationed.

The Taliban don’t exist.The Right’s greatest champion said so. Why are we talking about them again??? Did the Americans leave in the meantime? No, they have been there all this time. So have the British, Canadians and Dutch. This is just being naive, but I wonder what the Right would say about how it is that the Taliban not only still exist, but are as strong as they have been since 2001. Quite a mystery.
Kind of also puts their regard for women and children in perspective. Most of us in North America wouldn’t use our dog or livestock for protection in that scenario. Where in heavens name are the women’s advocacy groups. You would think they would be rallying the world to storm the Middle East and be spitting on the NDP for even suggesting the possible withdrawal of Canadian troops.

Since these Taliban are almost all from the tribes and clans in this corner of Afghanistan, the women and children they were using yesterday as human shields are in fact their own distant kin.
This would be like if I were a terrorist fighting British troops on the Scottish Isle of Skye, where my mother’s family originally came from, if I used Isle of Skye people as human shields. Many of them could be and any of whom with the surname of Taylor definitely would be my own distant kin.
I can’t fathom minds so cowardly and despicable. Those Taliban are savages, not even worthy to be called men.
I notice that Steve D and NeuteredSam make no mention of the point of the story, deftly sidestepping the whole “women as shields” thing and moving on to deny there are any terrorists or vermin…

This women I was talking to that just got back says that the women are lossing rights and fear is the rule. What was that last week when the Taliban in the police killed the other police and went back into the mountians.

Karzai has long maintained that moderate Taliban who had no blood on their hands should play a role in the post-Taliban administrations.
“They are the sons of the soil, they are most welcome to stay and work in Afghanistan,” he told the Pakistani editors.
He was also reported to have said they could register to vote in October 9 elections, the first time Afghans will choose their own president.
They can “make money, get married, stand in elections,” he said.
However he made it clear that some 50 to 100 Taliban who had committed “heinous crimes” were not welcome.
