I’m very glad that battle-hardened adults with a record of following through on their promises are in charge of the United States Of America at the moment;
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that the Palestinians and “other nations” will eventually remove Israel from the region.
Addressing a mass demonstration in Tehran – one of many organized throughout Iran to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution – he once again questioned the Holocaust “fairy tale”.
“We ask the West to remove what they created sixty years ago and if they do not listen to our recommendations, then the Palestinian nation and other nations will eventually do this for them,” Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution.
“Do the removal of Israel before it is too late and save yourself from the fury of regional nations,” the ultra-conservative president said. He once again called the Holocaust a “fairy tale” and said Europeans have become hostages of “Zionists” in Israel.
Strategists at the Pentagon are drawing up plans for devastating bombing raids backed by submarine-launched ballistic missile attacks against Iran’s nuclear sites as a “last resort” to block Teheran’s efforts to develop an atomic bomb.
Central Command and Strategic Command planners are identifying targets, assessing weapon-loads and working on logistics for an operation, the Sunday Telegraph has learnt.
They are reporting to the office of Donald Rumsfeld, the defence secretary, as America updates plans for action if the diplomatic offensive fails to thwart the Islamic republic’s nuclear bomb ambitions. Teheran claims that it is developing only a civilian energy programme.
“This is more than just the standard military contingency assessment,” said a senior Pentagon adviser. “This has taken on much greater urgency in recent months.”
Something tells me Ahmadinejad won’t enjoy the luxury of time afforded Saddam Hussein to change his mind. For starters, he seems suicidally stupid. (Though, he’s not alone in that.)
Hopefully, saner heads will lop his off before he gets a half million or so of his fellow Iranians converted into new sand.
(Though, admittedly, just the sideshow of the anti-war, greenie left rousing themselves to volunteer as human shields for nuclear reactors might be worth a few extra weeks of negotiation.)
Update: Reader John Neish passes along this helpful hint;” Ahmadinejad: I was having trouble with this guy’s name. Now I think of him as “I’m mad in a j(ih)ad”.

From todays Houston Chronicle,
“In a little-noticed news item the same week as the riots, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accepted an invitation to visit Cuba in September to show gratitude for Castro’s support of Iran’s nuclear program.”
Canadas good buddy Fidel Castro is going to play host to Iran.
I cannot wait to see how the CBC covers this news.
Lest anyone think that Dubya is thinking of a nuclear strike, with the phrase “…devastating bombing raids backed by submarine-launched ballistic missile attacks”, he’s not. That full article at the Daily Telegraph, plus linked ones, were to the US developing a CONVENTIONAL warhead for submarine-launched ICBMs.
The idea is that these would be the perfect bunker-busters. It’d be a NON-nuclear cone-shaped warhead coming in in the neighborhood of Mach 10, with current ICBM’s accuracy of literally within yards of the target. The kinetic energy, the shock wave, would cause very deep penetration, plus the explosion of the conventional warhead, could put paid to those Iranian (or Korean or whoever’s) underground nuclear weapons facilities, without the widespread casualties, damage plus fallout of a nuke.
Liberals in Canada are awaiting the return of Paul Martin, Jr. The Mahdi, and Martin, Jr., are both missing. Martin went into “occlusion” at age 68; Mahdi at age 5. Now, that makes Martin 1200 years young. Who will return first: Mahdi or Martin??? THE RETURN IS ONLY 2 YEARS AWAY. >>>>

The man in charge of hoodwinking the Western powers about Iran’s now 18-year-old secret nuclear program believes the apocalypse will happen in his own lifetime. He’ll be 50 in October. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s Shi’ite creed has convinced him lesser mortals can not only influence but hasten the awaited return of the 12th Imam, known as the Mahdi. Iran’s dominant “Twelver” sect holds this will be Muhammad ibn Hasan, the righteous descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. He is said to have gone into “occlusion” in the 9th century, at age 5. His return will be preceded by cosmic chaos, war, bloodshed and pestilence. After this cataclysmic confrontation between the forces of good and evil, the Mahdi will lead the world to an era of universal peace. “The ultimate promise of all Divine religions,” says Ahmadinejad, “will be fulfilled with the emergence of a perfect human being [the 12th Imam], who is heir to all prophets. He will lead the world to justice and absolute peace. Oh mighty Lord, I pray to you to hasten the emergence of your last repository, the promised one.” He reckons the return of the Imam, AWOL for 11 centuries, is only two years away. Mr. Ahmadinejad is close to the messianic Hojjatieh Society, which is governed by the conviction the 12th Imam’s return will be hastened by “the creation of chaos on Earth.” He has fired Iran’s most experienced diplomats and scores of other officials, presumably those who don’t share his belief in apocalyptic conflagration. Positively alarming would be a nuclear weapon in the hands of a man who badgers Israel, the U.S. and the European Union in belief a pre-emptive aerial attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities will hasten the return of the missing Mahdi. >>

This is my favorite part right here: “the ultra-conservative president…”
Do these people ever even stop to think how idiotic they sound?
The extent of American plans tells me one thing: it’s no longer a matter of *if* they strike, but *when*.
“the ultra-conservative president…”
Yes Phanton, Stephen Harper and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have so much in common, in a lefty’s reporter eyes.
The Israeli’s have numerous mock ups in the desert that they have been practising on for years.
Israel doesn’t wait for approval. If and when the Iranians are close to being serious, we’ll be hearing about it on CNN.
What I find very interesting is the linkage that the iranians make with the palestineans. If you look back through the history of the middle east, I don’t actually see many of the other arab countries being very supportive of the palestineans.
1948, they told them to leave there homes so that they could have them back after they destroyed the new state of israel, but were they ever welcomed even temporarily into the arms of their arab brothers? (check out 1970’s Jordan for example)
Also, the other irony is that despite all of the horrors of the living condiitions in the territories, somehow the palestinean population has the highest rate of literacy of the populations of the region, the lowest rate of infant mortality, and one of the highest rates of post secondary education around.
Let Iran prattle on, let the palestineans choose sides and accept the consequences of their actions, as any other country in the world must do.
Perhaps the greenie/lefties should be reminded that Iran nuking Israel is a global warming issue – the prospect of millions of dead doesn’t seem to be enough to rouse lefties out of their blind support for anyone who is anti-Bush.
Does anyone here read the Bible??? Does any of this sound familiar, not to thump any more but it sounds like we are about to have the fight of our lives soon. Q-Why and how would a media outlet have such information about the payload and types of weapons and their delivery systems the US would use against Iran?? Would that not not be one file the US would want to mark CONFIDENTIAL!
Last note glad to be a sasky if the world goes to shit with IRAN RUSSIA CHINA NKOREA PALESTINIAN VS NAMERICA EUROPE ETC…, no military targets, no real resource threat(oiletc.), no falt lines no seas that flood, just got to worry about the tornado’s and the cold which we havnt seen much of lately.
God bless Bush. He’s understood from day one that we have to wipe this vile scourge off of the face of the earth. Like Churchill, he has understood the role of war president. (God forbid that the Democrats ever retake the White House.)
I watched a high ranking retired military guy on FOX today. He had a map giving specific plans as to how the US will accomplish destroying the reactor sites and from what bases. My guess, his appearance was “encouraged” by the White House.
I’m all for Darwin scholarships to get human shields wherever they need to go. Too many of the little creatures were rescued by our military arriving in Iraq using up valuable manpower. With Iran we won’t have boots on the ground. They may not be bright enough to understand that. I guess that is pretty much Darwin’s point.
Can we start chipping in to buy Maude Barlow and a few others their airfare? I’d give up all of my airmiles for Dr. Suzuki.
Why and how would a media outlet have such information about the payload and types of weapons and their delivery systems the US would use against Iran??
Maybe because the White House has a very specific message for Iran and is using the public airwaves. The message is that we are beyond the hypothetical stage and into the specifics.
Makes sense to me.
March 26, 2006, the day the Iranian Oil Bourse opens for business. Trading oil in Euros, not US greenbacks.
US has had various air groups staging into the area for several months.
I fully expect Iran to make some move to deliberately provoke the US into an attack.
Chinese arms to defend China’s major oil supply. Praise be.
March 26, 2006, the day the Iranian Oil Bourse opens for business. Trading oil in Euros, not US greenbacks.
The Iranian Oil Bourse is a joke. Trust me, the final settlements for Iranian oil will be in dollars. The buyers will determine that and can convert currencies immediately.
Are you really suggesting that the US motive for taking out Iranian reactors is fear of the Iranian oil bourse rather than an entire country wiped of the map(Israel) and nuclear weapons in the hands of history’s most dangerous lunatics since Hitler?
Penny
Yes is makes sense to a certain extent but… Mr. Bush has made it more than clear about his opinion of Iran’s intentions with nukes, and I am sure that they can put two and two together and know that the US will defend its intrests and own soils and attack, why make this very sensitive information public, they havnt listened to threats before what makes us think that they will be the least bit scared of this now??/ Just doesnt make sense to me, please correct me if I am wrong.
As to nothing of strategic value in SK:
Seems that I remember a huge satellite tracking installation immediately west of PA and a NORAD installation near the AB-SK border. Are those sites no longer there?
There is also uranium in the north and coal, oil, and gas in the south and west of SK, isn’t there?
The Telegraph (as usual when “reporting” on US defence policy) has uncovered little. See this by William Arkin, Jan. 17:
http://blogs.washingtonpost.com/earlywarning/2006/01/attack_iran_wer.html
‘Attack Iran? We’re Ready
For months, the press and blogosphere have been filled with scoops about U.S. and Israeli preparations for an imminent strike on Iran. Commentators in the mainstream press, meanwhile, have questioned the likelihood of a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, arguing that such an attack would be impossible or too costly given Iran’s ability to hide its true targets.
“To locate and then strike these disbursed and underground facilities would probably require not air power but nuclear weapons,” retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey even said on NBC Nightly News Saturday night.
Commentators on both sides of this issue are wrong. Though the U.S. military continues to prepare a preemptive attack war plan for Iran and North Korea under the “global strike” program, speculation of an imminent strike is utter fabrication.
But those who pooh-pooh preparations to take military action against Iran, or question the likelihood because of targeting difficulties, fail to understand the Bush administration’s policies and intent.
Last May, I wrote about U.S. preparations for “global strike,” the preemptive attack plan developed by the Bush administration. Global strike, formally known as CONPLAN 8022, refers to a specific set of contingencies to attack weapons of mass destruction should diplomacy fail in a crisis or if there are intelligence warnings of preparations for any type of strike on the United States or one of its allies. Practically, the global strike war plan applies to Iran and North Korea.
Global strike differs from other existing war plans — even for those two countries — in that it does not posit a U.S. response to invasion. That would be a defensive U.S. response. Instead, global strike constitutes a bolt-out-of-the-blue attack, a capability that has been developed wherein the President could order an attack within hours.
Since at least the middle of 2004, U.S. long-range bombers and submarines have been on alert to carry out an attack on weapons of mass destruction targets that could potentially threaten the United States. At Strategic Command (STRATCOM) in Omaha, the global strike plan has been written and refined. The choreography for bomber and cruise missile attacks has been arranged. Actual targets have been selected, and WMD activity is monitored, resulting in constant revisions of the choreography.
In May, I wrote that the plan also includes options to use nuclear weapons. But the attractiveness and feasibility of the new global strike planning is that a disarming blow can theoretically be delivered with conventional weapons alone.
The post-9/11 National Security Strategy, published in September 2002, codified preemption, stating that the United States must be prepared to stop rogue states and their terrorist clients before they are able to threaten or use weapons of mass destruction against the United States and our allies.” Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld directed the military in 2002 to create the capability to undertake “unwarned strikes” in crisis situations.
If Iran continues to defy the international community and manufactures nuclear weapons materials, and if U.S. intelligence detects peculiar movements or actions associated with nuclear facilities or, say, Iranian arming and alerting of its ballistic missile or fighter force, CONPLAN 8022 could be implemented to strike at the activity.
Given that the justification for preemption and for the global strike capability is to prevent “another 9/11,” this time one with WMD, it wouldn’t be relevant whether the United States was confident that it knew where ever last gram of Iran’s weapons were. The focus would be against Iran’s ability to deliver a WMD. The objective would be to forestall another 9/11. A strike that halted preparations for attack and set back the program so that it was no longer an immediate threat would be a success under the Bush administration’s plan.
This is why commentators who warn that the United States does not know where all of Iran’s nuclear capabilities are missing the point. Under global strike, the objective wouldn’t be to “disarm” Iran: It would be to stop it.
But equally those who froth that a strike is imminent don’t get it. Sure, the President spoke of an “axis of evil” after 9/11 but since then many realities have sunk in: The U.S. is overwhelmed in Afghanistan and Iraq, U.S. allies are as skeptical as ever regarding the use of force and even the government is more modest about what it “knows” after the intelligence failures since 9/11.
Someday, though, the President might indeed order a global strike. The argument on the part of the government would be that a preemptive strike on Iran was last ditch and defensive. Perhaps those who are opining about the subject should stop going around in circles about irrelevant claims and address the real program and its real justifications.’

My comments as for Sk. not being a target is valid given the fact of much GREATER targets to our west. Fort Mac. Calgary, the amount of oil and gas exploration in SK compared to our neighbours in Alberta, uncomparable. Yes the NORAD installation is still just W of Kindersley, we present little military target compared to other much better targets in AB. Sry all albertians your the ones who are sitting on all the dead animals, LOL That was ajoke
I’m sure the Emerson/Fortier/Harper issue will go away if the hypocritical right ignores it.
Are they scared? Hell no. It’s all about the afterlife with these maniacs. I would bet that calculated into Iran’s plan is the loss of 25% of the Iranian population if they go pre-emptive with Israel. No big deal to maniacs that get rewarded with 72 virgins(dead Iranian women get nada as expected) and are obsessed with the cult of martyrs.
Today’s threat lacks the paradigm of the Cold War: You have nukes. We have nukes. But neither side is insane enough to use them. This is Stone Age versus modern western civilization. Israel dies and then anyone that pisses us off after that. Face it, if Iran’s nukes(really the Islamic bomb) were viable Denmark would be gone.
We grovel on our knees or we face this fascism standing together with courage.
First off the Navy has converted 4 Ohio class or Trident submarines AKA Boomers. Gotta love that nickname. Converted to conventional weapons.
Telling the world that they are going to use boomers is a little like a quarterback going to the Superbowl and saying he will have a passing game.
Dosn’t really tell you much but if your Quarterback is Joe Montana then you know passing is going to be problem for you.
As for the Bourse, China is awash in US $’s and they will be buying Oil whith them. The Euro stuff is probably to pick up some Business with Europe just trying to pick up the business that Sadam used to have. It would be a regional exchange and not much of a threat to NYMEX where the bulk of the worlds Oil flows through. It’s about liquidity and who can handle all the order flow.
“If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely and we don’t try to piece together clever diplomacy, but just wage a total war … our children will sing great songs about us years from now.”
~ Richard Perle
2015 would actually be the earliest
Bush needs a war or threat of security for the 2006 elections.
Steve in BC nice piece of rhetoric but in case you haven’t been paying attention those threats comming out of Iran are not Idle.
Nor were Sadam’s if he could have found a way he would have. The man had already invaded a neighbouring country.
The attacks on our way of life are real. The free speech issues are real.
What is proof positive for you when a nuke goes off somewhere in the world.
The guy running Iran is trying to facilitate armaggedon the Islam version, and is making no bones about it his speechs are public.
Maybe you should try looking at the world with a balanced eye instead of a political bent of right and left. This is not a NDP issue of supporting some poor hard done by Union person.
These people have no respect for Western life or culture yet want respect for their way of life. Their goals are not peaceful coexistence. Their goal is domination at the least. Destruction leading to armaggedon at the worst.
How much more destruction do these folks need to perpetuate before you begin to understand. Will it take you living in fear in your own home will it take the removal of your freedom to move around as you chose. Certainly your opinion is getting placed on a shorter and shorter leash all the time.
To have peace to not have to keep sending are youngest and best into harms way is not an easy or happy choice. To say a President of the United States would do so for the sake of an election is one of the more ignorant statements I have ever heard in my life.
simpleton “Perhaps the greenie/lefties should be reminded that Iran nuking Israel is a global warming issue”
Actually if its a ground strike then the dust thrown up into the atmosphere has a slight cooling effect.
Who exactly are these “battle-hardened adults” who are in charge of the US of A?
If I lived in a nation run by these maniacal 10th century fanatics, I’d be moving fast. Anyone with reason in these rogue nations should be getting nervous when even China and Russia see them as destabilizing global elements. At this point in time, with rejection of free democracy and its economic freedoms, a final solution is a looming possibility…Israel is going nowhere…so says the US/UK/UN security council and the attempted “removal” of it will signal the start of a Islamic armageddon which they can’t possibly win.
Western military are already setting strategy to smoke Iran with nukes, you’d think this would make the foamers in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria think twice about “provocing” the west by threatening Isreal. The western alliance will not waste money and manpower in these conflicts as they did in Iraq. This will be the first use of small tactical nukes in a conflict. The provocational build up is under way now (witness the reaction to the fanatics protesting Danish media) Radical Islam haven’t a friend in the world and the globe’s largest superpowers are now poised to use a nuke to solve the “Rasical Islamic problem”. The last time we saw this distain for a people from the western nuclear powers, was when feudalistic Japanese imperialism was “tamed” with a nuke and brough into 20th century civility on the tail of a uranium isotope…that same cultural antagonism is escalating today between the west and Islamic nationalist fanaticism…..a very precarious position….of course if you’ve been raised as a martyr????
WLMR…
“if you’ve been raised as a martyr” then you just might become a shadow of your former self…
“Battle-hardened” adults in charge of the USA!! And you were being serious!!
Sweet Lord, I haven’t laughed that hard in a long, long time.
Nick “Israel doesn’t wait for approval. If and when the Iranians are close to being serious, we’ll be hearing about it on CNN.”
I agree with you on the second part but they would secretly clear it with the US first. They usually do on matters of this magnitude.
Penny “if Iran’s nukes(really the Islamic bomb”
I’ve said it before but perhaps its worth repeating. There already is an “Islamic bomb”, Pakistan has a few and they’ve got a very strong contingent of barely under control radicals.
Iran is not going to get a nuke and they know it. The sabre rattling from Iran is pure gesture politics.
..seems to me that if hitler had finished the job 61 years ago regarding the jews then israel would never have happened and the middle east would be a much more peaceful and civilised place! Jews are the most racist people on earth and the sooner Bush and his croonies get out of the Jewish bed the better!
I always knew there were still a few hidden out there….just didn’t know where……………
We now know where….under the rock that no-one is prepared to lift up to respond to your ——- ———— comments. Go back to sleep!
The first country in the middle east that tries any more bullshit against Israel is going to be nuked off the face of the earth.
hawk in nz:….hawk rhymes with rock…..but neither has risen….nor will anyone lift it!!…you’re a SLUG… come out from under your rock!!…….didn’t think you would…..
