Or burn a token embassy or something.
Meanwhile, closer to home, the usual twit contingent is organizing;
Students angered by a Halifax university professor’s decision to post cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad on his office door plan to march on Saint Mary’s University.
Organizers have condemned the actions of Dr. Peter March saying they show a lack of respect for the Islamic faith and are designed to be provocative and create a hatred of Muslims.
[…]
Organizers say the march will also honour the nine people worldwide who died protesting cartoons they saw as mocking their faith
Professor March should pull his cartoons down and replace them with photographs of the three Christian schoolgirls beheaded in Indonesia last fall. But something tells me that would also be protested as “hatred” towards Islam.
Bonus! The Muslim Public Affairs Council (UK) steals neo-Nazi material for their website.
Update
According to Dagens Nyheter, the Swedish security services (Spo), in collusion with Foreign Minister Leila Freivalds, have forced the website SD-Kuriren offline for publishing the Jyllands-Posten cartoons (SD-Kuriren is the house organ of the hard-right Swedish Democrats).
We think that this was the best decision after we were contacted by the Foreign Ministry and Spo, Anna Larsson, vice president of hosting compant Levonline, told DN. Freivalds told DN that it is terrible that a small group of extremists are exposing Swedes to danger [by reprinting the cartoons].
Note: Freedom Houses 2005 survey ranks Sweden 9th in press freedom.
Note to Spo: This site is hosted in Sweden, on the servers of Loopia AB. You can find their contact information here. The Spectator calls on every Swedish blogleft, right and centerto reprint the Mohammad cartoons in solidarity with SD-Kuriren, however odious we find their political views. Freedom of the press doesnt make exceptions for stupidity and provincialism.
I received a call today from a Toronto reporter on the topic of publishing the cartoons, beginning with why I had chosen to do so. I had a few things to say about editors who have forgotten that their own press freedoms were paid for in blood by editors and reporters of decades past who gave limb and life to establish the right to offend.
Well, I actually had a lot to say. Don’t know how much will appear in print, but I’ll direct you there if it does.
update – continued…

I’ve got 36 packets Maggi Chicken Stock made in Maggi’s branch plant in Egypt. I promise I won’t buy any more for the duration of hostilities. But I won’t throw them out because it’s way better than Knorr’s.
Unfortunately the left has its foaming at the mouth loonies too. I voted Reform back in the day just to piss people like this off.
The chum’s been thrown in the water boys, go to it.
maybe the Palestine Solidarity Society can also host an evening that shows Palestinian TV with the little boys & girls dressed up in Suicide bomb belts at summer camp/brainwshing school. Or a few Middle East /Arab newspapers that every day spew race and religous hatred.
Or Saudi TV showing the beheadings, or the stoning of homosexuals.
Now that would get their justice juices flowing
“Unfortunately the left has its foaming at the mouth loonies too”! It seems to me the Left got a lot more than its fair share!
The twit contingent — as good a name as any — is predictable. It is our new government in which I am disappointed. Peter MacKay says that the freedom to express onself “must be exercised responsibly,” which is in effect a call for self-censorship. I thought Conservatives had backbones: we need to hear from them a ringing defence of freedom and of our Danish allies.
Boycott Egypt and buy Danish, but also keep an eye on these old “progressive conservatives” who give every sign of adapting to Ottawa all too smoothly,

I remember seeing the fotos of the 3 girls… I kept one of the fotos, as a reminder of what real hatred looks like.
I think it was at http://www.peoplestruthforum.com but I can’t find it there today.
That Danish cheese tastes especially good lately . . .
I haven’t said anything about all of this here because as an ex-military guy the only thinking I do when attacked is tactics. However, I’ve read a lot of intelligent analysis here and on the Shotgun.
Here’s what I think. Canada hurt us and made us all more vulnerable when they didn’t back the United State in the UN. Now, thank God, the Librano$ are out and saner heads may prevail. I understand that Harper wants to increase Canadian military by around 13,000. He wants a new special ops command to be increased to something like 750 members, divided into 2 complements, one to support the other and also to be capable of independent missions.
I presume that the new North American command will be highly integrated with US forces which would also be of enormous help.
My view is that the message that we want the Islamic world to see is that North America shares one unalterable and universal voice relative to them and their activity.
An attack on the USA will be considered to be an attack on Canada. An attack on Canada will be considered to be an attack on the USA.
They should be persuaded to believe, because it is true, that any encroachment on the people of the United States and Canada will be responded to with absolutely coordinated, joint activities.
They should be led to believe, because it is true, that we will fight them tooth and nail until every last breath is drawn and every last drop of blood is spilled. There is no compromise.
And if they want to destroy themselves, bring it on.
Muslims are proving themselves to be a particularly unenlightened bunch of savages who should therefore retreat to their theocratic paradise countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia where media that might upset them can be appropriately censored.
Real religions have to have principles that are strong enough to stand up to the simplest of questions in the Age of Information, Islam is obviously a tenuous construct that cannot stand up to criticism, strict isolation is their only hope.
The annual pilgrimage to Mecca should become a one-way trip. Muslims could live there peacefully in a reality all their own – leaving the more advanced societies to progress without having to worry about upsetting the children.
MSM should not show these 12 cartoons. They should just show the pig and the dog humping ones. and tell people how these pictures actually came from Muslims trying to agitate and anger other muslims.
PSS will raise caan on this: The holy Rock of Kaaba will be split asunder by the …. blah blh, bl… Madonna, aka Our Lady. Ask Jesse jack’son & Jimmah Carter for a sermon on how we are disrespectful of religionns,>>> Oh, forgeot to ask El-Misery….

For those who want to make this cartoon into an end of the world situation, may want to revisit their own reactions (non reactions) to the many, many slurs thrown at Catholics, including the rabble.com publishing an offensive cartoon of Pope Benedict last year. No one saw Catholics burning down buildings or cries to behead those who slur Catholics. Also, maybe the immans and the muslims leaders should start to denounce the beheadings of care workers or using children as suicide bombings in their home countries. I’ll believe the muslim reactions when they themselves change their own attitudes to Jews, Catholics, etc.
Personally, I have no respect whatsoever for this facist death-cult that wraps itself in the guise of a “religion”
Why don’t these people get a life? If all they ever have to worry about is a few cartoons they have it made in the shade.
Are these protesters citizens or here on student visas–if not citizens they should be deported for their actions.
They see nothing wrong with shooting the Pope, killing innocent Christians, burning churches and any number of disgusting violent acts, yet they have orasms of rage over a cartoon. We are fools for allowing this to happen here–where is our media and our politicians–they should be loudly denouncing this behaviour–instead, we will lose even more freedom of speech to placate these morons.
they bomb christians they blow up jews , they behead schoolgirls , they burn other branches of muzlim mosques they fly airplanes into office buildings and you don’t hear a sound but draw a damned cartoon and watch them whine . its hard to respect these people
Something tells me that sandmonkey is a double agent…
Alan:
The story surrounding the origin of the “pig cartoon” is even more bizarre…it was not a cartoon at all and never was published as a cartoon. The black & white image brought to the middle east by the Danish muslims is actually a photocopy of a photo that appeared in a number of media outlets in August 2005. The photo was of a frenchman who was competing in a pig-squealing contest, similar to watermelon spitting contests and such, and he wore the pig’s snout & ears for added effect. You can see the “cartoon” and the real colour photo by going to the following link:
http://www.neandernews.com/?p=54
The contest and his outfit had nothing whatever to do with Mohammed or muslins or the middle east. This makes the duplicity of those venal muslim clerics even more outrageous.
Bruce:
Lying to the infidels to further the jihad is not only is it allowed, but is encouraged. As is phony “truce” offers.
I was one of those who spent some time after 9-11 trying to “understand” Islam.
I know a lot more about it now and what I know puts it clearly somewhere between death-cult and uber-facism.
Here is another post that sheds a little more light on this Censored and manipulated topic.

As long as we’re on this free speech kick, let’s have some cartoons on sodomy. Maybe bring in the tainted blood angle.
MSM doesn’t have to reprint the tepid toons to show solidarity in free speech. If they do then it just proves how idiotic the whole bunch is.
All they have to do is print humorless graphic pictures of the victims of Islam. And start with the ones that show the beheaded school girls, terrified women awaiting brutal stonings, murdered Christians in Sudan, honor killings in Pakistan, bombings of Iraqi markets, etc, etc. Just keep publishing the ugly truth for everyone to see. There’s myraids of material to fill many newspaper pages with Mohammed’s madness. Pound it home daily from Oslo to Jakarta – then lets see what offended faces show up in prime time Islamic ACTION NOW demonstrations. But that would mean that MSM would have to start telling the truth…and sadly it’s just something they’re not equipped to do.
There was an interesting photo in The Calgary Sun yesterday, on page seven, of a demonstation in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The protest placard says, “WE HATE DENMARK AND CANADA Khelafat Majlish” not sure of the spelling on Khelafat, the guys head is partially blocking some of the letters. I hope they hate our money as well, since they seem to need it every time their shitty little country gets flooded out. Usually about once a year during monsoon season. Rule one of building: never settle on a flood plain or river delta. I scanned and saved the pictures to remind myself the next time the charities roll around with outstreached arm, palm up. From now on my money stays in country. I think it is time to boycott all charity flowing to Islamic destinations
Excellent idea, Martin B. The agenda ought to be – to show the difference between the stated Belief (that Islam is peaceful) and the Real Behaviour (the commuter train bombings, the metro bombings, the beheaded schoolgirls, the women being stoned, the children used as suicide bombers etc, etc)…and ask…Please explain the difference between the Belief – and – the Behaviour.
Why do you demand respect – when you BEHAVE like this?
Why do you insist that there be no debate, no discussion about your behaviour?
Everything I have found about The War of the 12
Cartoons ( links, blogs, quips, quotes, aggravating pictures ) is

The behaviour of Catholics during the Inquisition is not synonymous with the church, or the behaviour of Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland nor is the behaviour of the Islamic extremists synonymous with the Prophet Mohammed.
But the extremists are grabbing the agenda.
What should the appropriate response look like?
Hirsi Ali: There should be solidarity. The cartoons should be displayed everywhere. After all, the Arabs can’t boycott goods from every country. They’re far too dependent on imports. And Scandinavian companies should be compensated for their losses. Freedom of speech should at least be worth that much to us.
Seeing as how everyone is throwing in their 2 cents, I guess I’ll add mine. Reading through all the comments not only on this site but a couple of others I see a common attitude. I am especially proud to see fellow Canadians actually show some passion towards a a situation.
When is the Western World going to say enough is enough? It seems to me we always rise above all the crap that is dumped on us by Allah’s followers. You read in the news how American soldiers have been sent to prison because they made some terrorist a-hole pose like a dog for a picture. The sinister side of me had a great laugh to see those pictures, yet I know we are above that type of behavior and I don’t condone it. But…. these cult following idiots need to know we are tired of their crap.
I really have to believe the Danish paper had no idea what kind of storm those silly cartoons would start. Can you believe it? Can you imagine what would happen if the Western World really tried to offend them. I bet we could get them so pissed their heads would explode.
Interesting idea…
All I can say is that they better back off before the sleeping giant of the western world wakes up. I don’t think they have seen anything yet. The U.S. has led the charge, I wonder how us Canadians would feel about supporting the U.S. if we were attacked on Canadian soil.

Sodomy cartoons, anyone?
An interesting idea Randy, and the chance of American owned assets (and people) being attacked here in Canada is….?
Is Canada the only country on Bin Laden’s “to do” list that hasn’t been done yet? Is Italy (this Olympic month) on the list?
Oh goodie, the students (or at least the ones who pretend to be students while the real students are busy studying and getting drunk) are having a March against March. Man, you can’t make this stuff up.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get worse: (Ah! there’s that colon) And it’s “just the Muslims”

While I’m certainly planning to pick up some extra Havarti and Danish Blue at my next visit to the cheese shop, I will not compromise my principles. Lego is completely inferior to Meccano.
At least if you’re over six. Unless one’s doing it for the children, it’s always a sad thing to see adults playing with Lego instead of Meccano.
Why are students the easiest to fool? What does having a student rally/protest/organization really do for the credibility of any cause?
“The barbaric nature of Islamic woman-hatred is impossible to overstate,” Chesler writes.
What say you?
Islam is a patriarchal religion: misogyny, hatred of women, is inherent in Islam. >> http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1575527/posts
From Angry in the Great White North:
“The Cadre, UPEI’s student newspaper has published the twelve infamous editorial cartoons that criticized aspects of Islam.
At the request of president Wade MacLauchlan, university administrators have removed all 2,000 copies of the paper from campus.”
You know, I am really, really starting to get pissed off at the way our “society” is kissing up to a bunch of unwashed, uncivilized, uneducated barbarians whose principal goal is to take us all back to the 13th century…and apparently, our institutions are doing their level best to facilitate the process.
“Danesborg creamy is a favourite with port.”
oooh, that’ll get them…come on.
You’re at home NOT making international news. How stupid are these people? Or do they just enjoy poking things into wasp nests for fun? (Which is also stupid.)
Nobody gave a shit about the women of Afghanistan until we were making plans to attack them for harboring Al Queda. Now, suddenly, we give a shit about the treatment of women in Iran. Please stop.
The Right here and Islamic extremists have always believed that freedom of speech and of the press only applies to them. Extremes of both are using the cartoon riots for their own purposes.
Why not send an email to the President of UPEI to express your outrage at his dhimmitude. His name is H. Wade MacLauchlan.
WMACLAUCHLAN@UPEI.CA
So you say nobody here gives a shit about the treatment of women in Iran? Okay, steve in bc. Yer the expert.
this (link from NealNews) is an example of anti-catholic images. Where’s the burning Polish embasy? Should I be buying up some Polish flags?
This all reminds me of Larry Flynt (Hustler). I saw an interview where he said if he’s free to publish, then “normal” people can rest assured their freedom of speech is safe. Maybe we can think of this as the canary in the coal mine. At the very least why don’t mainstream papers put the cartoon in with Mohammed blacked over? They’re really dropping the ball here (with the notable exception of the Ottawa Citizen; they dont publish the images, but they at least cut through the spin)
I have to say that Canadian Muslims have (so far) shown remarkable restraint (compared to their brothers overseas). By all means, protest if you think it’s offensive. But don’t act like a bully or you’ll just prove the cartoons right.
Heading to T.O in morning to see a stage show. Stopped in the grocery store this evening and bought two tubs of cheese. The brand name is Arla. Herbs&Spices cream cheese and Garlic cream cheese. Thought it would be good to eat while watching the opening ceremonies at Turin. I searched the store for sometime and found quite a few products from the ME. By-the-way, I won’t be purchasing any of that stuff.
until, ebd, until we did..
“Many Arab governments, Muslim religious leaders and newspapers have been calling for calm in the protests over the Prophet Muhammad cartoons, fearing the violence of the past weeks has only reinforced Islam’s negative image in the West.
No major demonstrations took place in Mideast and North African cities Thursday, suggesting the fervor was easing.”

Kate’s post is injurious. Ya. Swedish security services force a website offline so as not to offend Muslim extremist males males of a certain age.

I just sent an e-mail to the president of UPEI.
Dear H. Wade,
As a former student I resent your obvious lack of testicular fortitude. By removing all copies of “The Cadre” you showed the students and the rest of Canada what a linguini spined coward you really are.
Your credibility is now in the tank and just think that now every time you are conversing with someone they may be thinking you may stab them in the back at the first opportunity, after all, you have proved that you have no integrity. Something to think about.
The. Capt.
maz2 “Many fear that if the Islamic boycot proves its effect, it will be used as a weapon again and again.”
Boycotting Carlsberg is hardly a terror weapon. Voting with your wallet is a time honoured and legitamate form of protest.
But it may not happen. There were similar fears of boycotts about American products at the start of the Iraq War. They didn’t materialize. In some ME countries sales of American consumer products (such as Coca Cola) actually *increased*.
Randy “You read in the news how American soldiers have been sent to prison because they made some terrorist a-hole pose like a dog for a picture.”
And you’ve also got soldiers getting a slap on the wrist for manslaughter. You’ll find abusrdities on both feet.
But no I don’t rate pointing at someone’s dick as a grievous crime against humanity. But we’ve got prisoners being tortured and beaten to death. And in the case of the Baghdad police we now have suspects being skinned alive. That’s a bit more serious than making a dick joke at your enemies expense.
And not all of these people are necessarily guilty. Britain has had more than its fair share of imprisoned and brutaly treated innocents in its conflict with the IRA. That mistreatment only helped the IRA gain support. Some of us would like to learn from that mistake.
When you’re making the holier than thou talk then you should do the holier than thou walk to go with it.
Kevin “It seems to me the Left got a lot more than its fair share!”
Uh, do you want to count spittle? How about counting counting the number of times one side uses words like “nuke” or “nazi”. And let’s not even mentional totally not understanding Orwell.
From where I’m standing there are an equal number of loonies on both sides. The lefties loonies are for the large part relatively harmless. Poltical correctness is a big pain in the ass. I was at ground zero, university in Ontario in the late eighties (one of the nuclei of the worldwide political correctness trend). And yes it was horrible but in the grand sweep of history a period of cultural oversentivity doesn’t really rate on things to get worked up about.
Europe is even more lefty than Ontario and we’re not politicaly correct at all. I can get away with saying things in Brighton (perhaps the UK’s leftiest city) that I would never get away with in Alberta.
Salutations!
While I side with our (western) cherished delights of freedom, I do believe Ibn Warraq in his recent article in the Spiegel missed the point concerning *some* of the disagreements with the cartoons.
Religious blasphemy aside, the cartoons harbor an antiquated view of the ‘Arab’: hairy, sexually promiscuous, rugged, war-minded, et cetera et cetera. Such imagery is far from the Enlightenment values we here in the west tout. The cartoons do not reflect a case of freedom, but a case of occidental stereotypes tantamount to medieval depictions of Jews that we see sketched out in the Arab press.
Perhaps if the cartoons were pictorials of black men with enormous lips and flat noses this mantra would be far removed from “freedom of expression.” Or perhaps a few Iranian-style portrayals of Jews would do the trick. Denmark-u -alim!
BTW: I’ve recently read that the original paper that first carried the cartoons rejected a similar cartoon of Jesus because it was offensive. Puzzling!
Best wishes
Jose – you got me on your second paragraph, not quite sure what to make of it. Of course the right has its loons. Wouldn’t try & debate otherwise. However I would argue that the Left’s ideas are much more predominantly “loon-leaning”.
If you truly do believe that the Left & its loonies are “for a large part relatively harmless”, then I’m afraid I’d have to suggest that you taking a rather naive viewpoint.
Really, you can get away with saying things in Brighton that you couldn’t in Alberta? What things would those be? When you say “get away with”, are you referring to a blind acceptance of those things without debate, or just a lack of a lynch mob?
