Wait for Duceppe to confront Martin on
Making Quebec a Nation
On Option Canada file where gov’t broke the law
Name the names of the candidates who got the dirty money
Be prepared to see Martin collapse on stage -it is going to be a hoot.

I might watch the debate after all.
Update – well, real life does interfere around here. I’ve been out of computer range most of the day, but I see the comments are filling up with content from the debate in French.
The Liberals have already pulled an attack ad that smeared the Canadian Armed Forces. If anyone knows where a copy can be found, let me know.
Update – CTV has it – look for it at “Liberal attack ad about Harper and military presence0:30” link.
Bourque describes the Duffy vs Duffy moment everyone is chattering about in the comments;

After it was learned that the Liberal Party pulled one of the 12 ads they released Tuesday – the one saying Harper would put soldiers in cities, CTV cable news guy Mike Duffy blew up at Martin Liberal spokesperson John Duffy during a live post-debate broadcast. “We will not be intimidated!”, barked Mike, as he rebutted the Liberal Duffy’s attempt to block broadcast of the despicable ad, one that, earlier in the evening, Liberal leader Paul Martin shrugged off as part of the game in a post-debate scrum in Montreal

The file is a bit large, and it’s taking down hosting sites, so several mirrors are already up. I’ve included a few that are listed in the comments of the “Flanders Fields” post.
If you have highspeed, it’s a clip, that along with the original ad, has the potential to “go viral”.
Try here,
here,
, or here for starters. a whole thread of them at Free Dominion. One of them should work.
I get the suspicion the Liberals have written off this part of Saskatchewan. The ratio of Liberal ads to those of the NDP and Conesrvatives seems quite low. Speaking of which – driving around Saskatoon both yesterday and today, I’ve yet to see my first Liberal lawn sign. Or billboard. I’m not saying there aren’t any. But there weren’t any on the main thoroughfares I took – though I actually saw two for Christian Heritage!
Also – a reader reminds me, what was Martin trying to pull by turning his back on Duceppe during the debates, in full view of the cameras? I saw it played on CTV news, I’m told he did it twice. Is that supposed to be subliminal or something? Looked contrived to me, and I only saw it once.
I’ve copied a transcript of the Duffy VS Duffy moment in the extended entry.

***********
Mike Duffy (CTV): So that’s Stephen Harper with a very strong response, John Duffy, to this ad that was released to the internet, was handed to broadcasters for news purposes, never actually made it to the air. Can I ask you a question? Who conceived of this ad, and what was in people’s minds when you would go that low? This was like something hinting that the Canadian Forces are something like what we saw in in Chile with Pinochet.
John Duffy (Liberal Strategist): Michael, let me answer that question perhaps with another question. Tonight four leaders debated the future of Canada in the province of Quebec. They debated child care. They debated a woman’s right to choose. They debated the future of our country and national unity and we have now spent about ten minutes talking about nothing but an ad that never ran and I think you know… last night (Mike Duffy interrupts), last night Paul Martin said…
Mike Duffy: You’re asking why, you’re asking why I raise this?
John Duffy: No
Mike Duffy: Becasue this has to do with integrity. It has to do with the people who would want to lead our country. This is a perfectly legitimate issue to be raised by journalists.
John Duffy: Absolutely
Mike Duffy: It was raised there. We have every right to raise it. We have a public responsibility to raise it. You were in here earlier when we were off the air on a commercial break trying to intimidate me in to not going back to that ad…
John Duffy: Michael…
Mike Duffy: We will not be intimidated. We will do our jobs as journalists. Here’s Gilles Duceppe.

  1. Kate, OT but did you see the Lib military ad?
Our own military is being cast as dangerous to Canadains. You know, the ones that offer to put their lives on the lines to defend our freedoms, the same military that died by the thousands doing just that, just a few decades ago.
Most countries view their soldiers as heros. Our current government view them as but a handy little prop, used to denegrate for political expediency.
    This is sad.

  2. I sent this to CTV a few minutes ago…
How can John Duffy have the audacity to claim the Liberals military attack ad isn’t a Liberal ad?
He made that dumbfounding assertion on Mike Duffy Live and a reporter has to challenge him and the Liberal Party on this flagrant lie.
That ad was posted to their website, it backfired and now they’re saying it’s not there’s because they didn’t “release” it.

Is there a link/URL for your report?

  4. Tired: Is there a link/URL for this report?
Please post more information. Could be breaking news for SDA. Rush.

  5. Martin says he gave Gomery unlimited mandate.I somehow doubt that many in the know would agree.

Who’s winning? I haven’t heard anything striking so far, but I might have missed it while typing or something. I missed Janet Jackson’s nipple during the superbowl, so don’t listen to me.

  8. Just heard the Minister of Defence attack Harper on stationing troops around the country. The hoot of the night was his statement “if they see a US submarine up there what are they going to do “Shoot it down!” That’s where this country has arrived we have a Minister of Defence who doesn’t even know that we shoot down airplanes, the subs we sink. At least I think that’s how it’s supposed to work! And to think we trusted these morons to run the country for the last twelve years.

  9. If you did watch the French debate (or are watching it) does it seem to you that the translators are making a conscious effort to mimic the English speech patterns of the candidates whose words they are translating? Perhaps least with Martin, but the men translating the other three seem to be working at trying to impersonate their subjects.

  10. Hans, we should ask Bill Graham if the Libs can be “shot down” with “torpedo #4” (i.e., Ops Can), or would they be “sunk” instead? ;^)

  12. I just finished watching the French debates, and I couldn’t help but note that Martin’s main attack against Harper concerned what amount of powers of funding and power he would grant to Quebec versus Ontario, the West, etc. Then, during the closing statements, he attempted to portray himself as the defender of Quebec…it was almost as if Paul Martin expected us to view the debate in a completely different language and then paint himself as a defender of Quebec in translated English.
What he does not seem to want to admit is that Stephen Harper’s proposals present the best plan for soft sovreigntists to accept a united Canada as working for their interests and thus take away the prime motivation for sovreignty for many disenfranchised Quebeckers. Instead, Paul Martin only seemed interested as always to play the interests of Quebeckers against the interests of all other citizens in our country.
This is the game that most federal Liberals have played with our country for 12 years, and it is the game they will continue to play should they be elected again. What I find interesting (and what hasn’t been asked so far) is that nobody has challenged Martin to exercise the NWC should Quebec unilaterally declare sovreignty. This is the right he would take away as the first act of a Liberal government.
Once again, nobody has done more to advance the sovreigntist movement and its principles than the Liberal Party of Canada.

  13. Duffy vs. Duffy 🙂 I LOVED IT, and he looks shocked that they’re not on the LIEberals’ side anymore 🙂

  14. Soldiers in our cities, imagine that. So where does Paullie think soldiers come from? you know what? Soldiers are already in the cities, they are called reserves and militia. I guess they think that outside NDHQ there is a big warehouse with a sign on the door: “In case of peacekeeping or Lieberal photo ops Break Glass”.
As a retired military type I am sick of the crap that the military have had to put up with under the Liberals, and I mean PET too! Now that I am out of uniform I can tell them they are full of sh*t. I hope that the Conservatives deliver in their attempt to rebuild our proud military service, RCMP and Coast Guard. The people who keep Canada safe and ferr.

  15. Unbelievable 🙂 Duffy just tore the other Duffy a new hole on live TV, and he had to sit there looking shocked.

  16. Did you see Mike Duffy going off on John Duffy? Mike Duffy was seriously pissed and i do not recall seeing a Canadian journalist standing up like that.
I think this could be one of those watershed moments. Liberals have jumped the shark.
    enough

  17. Mike Duffy just ripped John Duffy a BRAND NEW BIG ASSHOLE . . live on the post debate show.
Puffy was VERY angry, he was just pissed and the Liberal Duffy looked like a complete dickhead. Said Liberal Duffy “tried to intimidate me off the air, and I won’t be intimidated.
Go Puffy go . . he may be a lot of things but he is proud of our military.
This is the LIberal Duffy who SUPPORTED the Beer & Popcorn line.
Now we know Liberals hate Canadian families and soldiers.
    Liberal values my ass.

  18. did you see it!!!
Mike Duffy just acussed John Duffy of tryin to intimidate him on live TV!!!!

  19. I just watched Mike Duffy tear a new asshole in Liberal flunky John Duffy on live TV for trying to intimidate the press regarding the Lib Ad on Military in the Cities, and Mike Duffy literally took John Duffy’s head off. He accused John Duffy of attempting to silence him while they broke away for Harpers scrum

  20. I watched the French debates, and all through them Martin tried to challenge Harper about how much funding and power he would give Quebec versus Ontario, the West, etc. Then during the closing statements he tried to paint himself as Captain Quebec.
What he didn’t want to admit is that Stephen Harper’s ideas give the best incentive for soft sovreigntists to make a go of it in Canada rather than pursue their own future. Paul Martin seems to believe that all sovreigntists have made up their minds and should continue to pursue their dream of an independent Quebec without addressing their concerns.
Of course, this is consistent with what we have seen for the past 12 years with the Liberals…playing the interests of Quebeckers in our federation against the interests of everyone else.
Once again, nobody has done more to advance the sovreigntist cause in Quebec than the Liberal Party of Canada.

  21. Just watching Countdown and Mike says that John Duffy tried to intimidate CTV during a commercial break to not play the “pulled” ad again. Mike was not happy.

  22. People on Andrew’s site are saying that Mike Duffy and John Duffy got into a hissy fit in the post-debate commentary. Seems J Duffy tried to get the Puffster not to talk about the military negative ad. The Puffster said he wouldn’t be intimidated, and allegedly tore J Duffy a new one.

  25. Does anyone know if there are any commercial paper shreaders left in the capital ??? It’s game over, the LIBERALS know it, and now, after this last debate, the bureaucrat realize it too !!!

  26. Jesus, get a life, you right wing nutbars.
Perhaps get real jobs – or, better yet, create some wealth – OR do what your heroes do…. talk about it but live your entire life in politics while spewing rhetoric about things you know nothing of….
Boy has our public life sunk to a ridiculously low level that people without any accomplishment outside of politics become heroes.

  27. Re: Monday debate when soon to be exPMPM used the word ‘criminal’. My first thought was today I would see big pictures of him with “…CRIMINAL…” underneath it. Rather disappointed to not have seen it yet.
On a different note we should see more discussion about bad supreme court decisions that without the NWC couldn’t be changed. Perfect example is the Persons Case – Women are not ‘Persons’? Makes for interesting reading.
    GO KATE!!!

  28. Mike Duffy tonight located his journalistic gonads and ripped a well deserved strip off John Duffy the Lib “pop corn & beer” guy.
Priceless and effective TV on Mike Duffy’s part.

  29. From what I could tell from the debate and the following media scrum, Martin has finally revealed the hidden agenda and it’s property rights. Apparently property rights lead to all kinds of evil things like child labour, failing farms, etc. Unbelievable!

  30. Please post a link to Duffy on Duffy on SDA. Isn’t there a website where someone just posts media “event” videos?
I have already forwarded the Liberal anti-military video to many in the services.

  31. Options Canada text is torpedo number 4.
Watch for really angry Quebec voters; and a groundswell of revulsion.
Given the polls showing declining Liberal fortunes one might make the comment:
Only a political Christ could ressurrect these poor (oh I mean rich) lepers.
Water is lapping at the gunnels, one more salvo from the deck guns and the Liberal election ship slowly slips under.
    Political lesson:
“NEVER, NEVER, NEVER TAKE THE VOTERS FOR GRANTED; STILL LESS ATTEMPT TO CHEAT THE ELECTORATE.”
We have long had death and taxes as the two standards of inevitability.
But there are those who believe that death is the preferable of the two.
At least, as one man said, theres one advantage about death; it doesnt get worse every time [Parliament] meets.
    Erwin R. Griswold
    A frenchman said it best
It is impossible to introduce into society a greater change and a greater Evil than this:
the conversion of the law into an instrument of plunder.
    Frederic Bastiat
The liberals would do well to meditate on this aphorism awhile; as it seems the electorate will be increasing the allotted time available for reflection.

  32. In a pig’s ear: “I know nothing about this.”
“Yes- I was in charge of that department, but only ‘officially’.” I am not responsible. “Read my lips.” “They were only ‘guidelines'” Etc.
“I will get to the bottom of this- sometime AFTER the next election.”

  33. Mr. Martin,
Please take some advice form Sir WInston Churchill…
“However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.” Winston Churchill

  34. In Quebec there have been groups outside of Liberal offices banging pots and pans.
I wonder if we will hear them tonight?
    Tired.

  35. Why have the Liberals removed the advertisement from their website where they implied Stephen Harper was conspiring to lead the Canadian Forces into a military dictatorship by, somehow, controlling the second-largest country in the world with 100-regular (Canadian) soldiers and 400-(Canadian) reservists in our largest cities?
I thought Stephen Harper said he was doing this to provide for Canadian protection in the event of a disaster.
You know, Katrina, earthquake, tsunami, ice storm, avian flu, terrorism.
Real things that are happening around the world.
Do Paul Martin and his fear-mongering Liberal strategists deserve to lead our amazing country? Or is there a better mainstream alternative?
    Stand up for Canada!
