Yup, 30 years. Trudeau-time. PET leases a piece of land from a First Nations tribe in Vancouver for 71 years. Why? To build the Pacific Environment Centre, a place where people can learn and study and research environmental issues.
Ever heard of it? Of course not. It has never been built.
Why? Because it is the 4th most contaminated plot of land that the government owns or leases.
Ironic, isn’t it?
And guess what? Thirty years have gone by, and the Liberals are still paying millions every year to lease it, have yet to clean it up, and have no serious plans to do anything with it.

Couldn’t the Fibs just ban toxins, et voila, problem solved?
so the liberals have been in power for 30 years,
i dont think so
On and off. Mostly on.
They could always build a huge airport there, complete with a subway tunnel to nowhere, then close the airport and turn the land over to their mafia friends.
Justzumgai. turn the land over to their mafia friends, wouldnt that mean giving it to themselves?
Quiz: You are faced with a rabid violent home invader. Your choices are ..
(a) An armed policeman who isn’t there.
(b) You, with a gun who is there.
(c) You, no gun.
Some of that lease revenue that has been getting paid to the Squamish could be finding it’s way back to the Liberal’s. If you look at political donations on the Elections Canada website you will see the Squamish have been steady contributor’s over the years.
Well, that certainly blows the theory that aboriginal people are not savy to the ways of the whiteman.
The Squamish certainly saw a good patsy when PET came along with buckets of money. The Liberal list of those involved (but never accountable) read like my dartboard: Trudeau, chretien, Copps…
I did a post on this a few weeks back. It’s an unreal amount of wasted money…
This is just one of those things they bring up on the West Coast every time Kevin Newman or whatever bored investigative journalist wants an easy story to “uncover”. I’ve heard it reported on as a “new” and “shocking” revelation thrice in the last five years or so.
D’ya ever think waste would’ve gotten so bad that they just forget things like this?
Reserves are environmental disasters. It hard to tell what they have thrown away from what they have just allowed to fall down.
and with reserves that the sewage outflow pipe is upstream of the water intake, with 40% unemployed it would be simple to get someone to move it.
How many birds and animals as well as insects will lose their homes so that can build this silly enviromental center anyway?
