Goldilocks, of course, was the little girl face with three choices — porridge that was too hot, porridge that was too cold, or porridge that was lukewarm.
Since we were children, we’ve been taught that the lukewarm porridge was “just right”. The other two choices were extremes, and fit only to be dismissed.
The Liberal Party has presented itself to Canadians as the “just right” party for decades.
The Conservatives (aka Alliance aka Reform aka PC)? Too reactionary.
The NDP? Too radical.
Has this been the formula for effective government? Go to Angry in the Great White North for why this approach, as sensible as it might seem to Goldilocks, is really not the right way to run a country.
Belinda-locks must think that waffles are o.k. luke warm too. Last spring she couldn’t wait to grab onto one.
The only thing centrist politics (lukewarm porridge)inspires is mediocrity. No wonder the Libranos have been successful in keeping the competition at bay for 12+ years. Any whisper of change is quickly quashed as “extremist”.
Give me steaming hot porridge or ring o’ fire buffalo wings. That’s what inspires me. Black and white politics, no grey issues for this cowboy. The sissy “lite beer” mentatlity of “big tent” politics where “everyone gets a turn” will only attract the lazy, uninformed, easily lead entitlement crowd. Those that enjoy beiong taxed into submission and are quite content in having their freedoms erroded.
These are the people portrayed on those government of canada tv commercials (usually a visible minority) either calling 1-800-ocanada or logging onto the website “looking for information on government programs”.
Unfortunately, as much as I’d love to see Monte Solberg or Stephen Harper hold grandpa’s shootin’ iron above his head and dare Anne McLellan to pry it from their “cold dead hands” I don’t think we docile Canadians are ready for that kind of passion!
Not Paul Martin’s “let me be very clear/make no mistake” so called passion, but real hardcore “mess with me and I’ll fuc& you up” kind of passion.
I can’t believe this nation’s defining characteristic/creed is “lavish welfare is here for the taking”. Mark Steyn once wrote something along the lines of the Canadian flag is but a corporate logo with no company. So-called Canadian patriotism is a joke. The government passes out free flags to kids to wave as the atheist, terrorist-loving, liberal appointed governor general arrives in the motorcade.
