most Newfoundlanders are smart enough to NOT bite the hand that feeds them.
This man does not seem to possess such wisdom.
Maybe he has lost too many of family to the Alberta miracle, all those Newfie expats who work the oilsands, and he has a bit of chip on his shoulder
Dear ‘Small Dead’ ,
Damian Penny who posted Bill Rowe’s drivel in order to demonstrate its absurdity is a Newfoundlander who can speak for himself as to the pejorative ‘Newfie’. But this Newfoundlander, despite 20 years in Toronto, detests the term. Its use in this case is gratuitous, unnecessary and distracts from the rank stupidity of Rowe’s hack job.
He is a former leader of the provincial Liberal party among other things.
Oh, stop it.
Ignore Bill Rowe. We think he’s an idiot here in Newfoundland, I can only imagine what you must think of him down in Alberta. I nearly vomited when I read that column in “The Telegram” today. Bill Rowe does NOT speak for Newfoundlanders. He’s a loudmouth and says things just to get attention.
I used to work in a political job where I had to listen to him every day on his radio show, and it was the part of work I dreaded the most.
Rest Assured, Alberta: Newfoundland loves you and supports you in all you do. After all, we have the same problem: the federal government.
Don’t let a loudmouth like Bill Rowe tear apart the natural alliance formed by our common cause.
Barry too many years in the center of the universe has made you thin skinned. Most of the Newfoundlanders I know her in Alberta wear the name “Newfie” proudly as they should. Dante I think radio stations hire idiots like Rowe to keep people’s blood pressure up. We had one of the left leaning clowns on a station here for years. He is now one of the scarce lying liberals in the provincial ledgislature.
Kate, Newfie is considered a slur from where I am from. It’s not a word that you should use. Please ignore Rowe’s histrionics as he does not speak for Newfoundlanders, who should consider themslves natural allies with albertans in terms of our fight for freedom from the federal government’s meddling in provincial economic affairs.
And the PC masses just keep on a comin’…
“Kate, Newfie is considered a slur from where I am from.”
Looks like I picked a bad day to stop offending people.
[ The Captain says it for me. to stress a point] TG
One of the themes that I see repeated in the blogosphere and in comments here on Miers, Abbas, and other threads here at CQ is that criticism of specific points of policy equates to a threat against the Administration. I can understand why people feel like this, especially on the Right; we have advanced our agenda by remaining remarkably united since 1994.
================ a great principle – TG ====
Ed continues,
That kind of unity has allowed us to make great electoral strides, gaining control of both houses of Congress and two terms in the White House, not easily done during the times we have faced over the last decade.
George Bush, in my opinion, has performed magnificently on a broad range of issues, including the judiciary. He has prosecuted the war on terror using the forward strategy of military engagement on the home turf of the terrorists rather than the United States. He has used that as a means to introduce democratization to the Middle East in order to effect the long-term solutions necessary to deradicalize the Arab world. Democracies in Afghanistan and Iraq will lead the momentum of freedom in a part of the world that desperately needs it, and we have seen fruit from that in Lebanon, and to a lesser extent in Egypt and Libya.
========================================end.
Above are some words from Ed’s [the Captain‘s] blog that at first seem sort of bland . Hidden in this is the idea that great advances are made when the team stays united and refuses too in-fight, especially in public.
This certainly applies to our CPC. The Captain then goes on to list examples of achievements.
I hope CPC infighting remains at a minimum, and most important, that it stays behind closed doors. Cool rules. Let the Parishes and the Copps carry on under the Libranos where they belong.

Here’s a little background info on Mr. Rowe. Last year he was appointed as the Provincial Representaitve in Ottawa. He had an office set up in Ottawa which acted as a ‘Newfie Consulate’ of sorts( I am a Newfie). In this role he was supposed to work with the Feds to help resolve issues of importance to Newfoundlanders. He quit after less than 6 months, complaining that Ottawa was just too difficult to deal with. Yet, he expects Albertans to keep takin it up the ?#*!.What a hippocrite. Alberta should quit dealing with Ottawa, just like you did Mr. Rowe.
Hey, what a coincidence, “Newfy” is considered pejorative where I come from, too! Small world, isn’t it, you goddamned Newfy?
The federal governments around the world, in every country, have something quite merciless, in common. Their greedy goals, too, are the same. As with any thing powerful, fueled by selfish demands, this vicious vortex has divided the only thing that can stop its invasion. The same strategy required to defeat any enemy of numbers-the age old time tested adage of divide and conquer is alive and growing . We must find ways to focus our efforts on the real enemies of us all, no matter where some line on a map stops and starts. Unity must begin or all righteous causes will be lost even to your smallest enemy never mind your greatest weaknesses. And if you think I’m saying join hands and sing “Kum bayah”, you’re singing the wrong tune.
Those of you in the fight, be sure of the why’s and lend a hand if you can, to support your allies.
Kate, normally i’d back you up 100% on almost everything you say, but asking not to be called a ‘newfie’ is not being PC anymore than you would object to being called a redneck or a hayseed. It’s use in this case was not necessary.
shawn my long hair has never completely covered my redneck and some of my best friends are newfies and stubblejumpers too.

I’m amazed that this guy even knows what “pejorative” means. I mean, he doesn’t even spell the slur right.
Where you come from do they have manners and common sense too?
It’s pretty simple, people. Don’t call black people “n*ggers.” Don’t call Newfoundlanders “N*wfies.” Get it straight. Got it?
