Raise the barricades! Someone has a pseudonym!

Lo be it for me to criticize another blogger…cough…but Kinsella takes the cake on this doozy.

“Raphael” then goes on to play some parsing games about what’s on his birth certificate, what’s real, what isn’t, etc. But he confirms that at least part of his Post handle is bullshit.

So, does the Post willingly publish untruths, or has it simply been hoodwinked? Good question.

To answer him, no. No the Post hasn’t been “hoodwinked” and no, you don’t have a good question.
Warren, I don’t expect you to drop your partisan wont, but one expects you to be smarter than this. The Nat. Post is only upholding some few hundred years worth of history in the publishing, suffrage and freedom of speech battles of the past.

Course, given your views on freedom of speech, I should expect nothing less than your desire to cast question on freedom of the press…at least the more conservative press. “We just caunght have that deary, now caun we.”

Enjoy It While We Can

Ezra Levant, on how he was saved by the internet.

Had I been charged with hate speech 10 years ago, I could not have fought back as effectively. If all this had happened in 1996 instead of 2006, few would have known anything about my battle. YouTube, which brought my story alive for 600,000 people by the time the traffic died down, debuted only in 2005. Before that, there was no universally surfed repository of current event–themed videos, and bloggers were much less prevalent. And without the credit card donations made possible by PayPal (which was started in 2000), it’s unlikely that I could have raised the money to cover my legal expenses.
In short, the Internet saved me. In that sense, my story isn’t just about free speech. It’s also about the way new technology has leveled the playing field between big government and private citizens.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Under a recently-introduced bill, H.R. 1966, bloggers would face up to two years in prison if they “harass” public figures by criticizing them in a “severe, repeated, and hostile” manner, and thereby cause them “substantial emotional distress.”
[…]
The bill is a telling example of how the American Left has turned against free speech and civil liberties. The bill’s sponsor, Linda Sanchez (D-CA), and nearly all of her 14 co-sponsors are liberals. All of them backed the federal hate-crimes bill passed by the House yesterday, which is designed to allow people who have been found innocent in state court to be reprosecuted in federal court..

What’s The Opposite Of Diversity?

University.

Readers may detect a familiar pattern here. If someone is invited onto campus to discuss a controversial subject – say, illegal immigration– the most righteous response is not to refute that person’s arguments, which would entail some effort and minimal civility. Good lord, no, there’s no time for that. (And why run the risk of hearing new information – and worse, rethinking one’s own position?) Instead, simply ensure the guest cannot air any argument at all. Then there’s not much to refute. One can simply sloganeer triumphantly and, of course, paraphrase. Call what the speaker would have said “hate speech,” then no-one will be curious and people will stay clear.

That’s not to say it always works“Nice going, geniuses! What’s your next trick gonna be?”

If You’ve Ever Commented On The Net

This case should be of concern to you;

Free Dominion has been ordered to cough up the IPs of certain anonymous posters. What is disturbing about this order is that it was given prior to any ruling on the merits of the case. The order will be appealed.

The infuriating part of this fiasco is that as a blog owner, I’ve notified (by telephone and email) internet service providers when I’ve encountered potentially serious threats (the most recent was against a Liberal politician). These incidents should be clear “terms of service” violations, and easily acted upon by the ISP. Well, good luck with that.
I’ve even gone as far as filing a documented report with the RCMP and regional police over a persistent commentor who was making repeated, specific threats towards named individuals. To the best of my knowledge, those too went down a black hole.
I’m beginning to think that my tactics were flawed. Had I forwarded the ip addresses to the Canadian Human Rights Commission alleging that the commentor had stated it was “Time to go back to when the women n**ger imports knew their place”, instead of merely threatening named police officers with execution, someone might have actually acted on the complaint.
(On the other hand, given the record of the CHRC, I’d end up standing before the ‘roos as both complainant and defendant, so maybe not.)
So, go here for the details, and how to contribute. If you were planning to donate to SDA this spring, I’ll ask that you send it to Free Dominion instead. The commenting freedom you save may be your own.

“I do not see any acceptable reason for Mr. Warman to have participated on the Stormfront or Vanguard sites”

No $7,500 for you…

[58] In regard to the other remedies sought by Mr. Warman, I have decided not to grant any relief under these provisions for the following reasons.
[59] During his cross-examination, Mr. Warman admitted (after initially denying) that he had participated in communicating messages on Internet Websites similar to the Northern Alliance Website utilizing pseudonyms such as “Pogue Mahone” and “Axetogrind”.

So.. has anyone got Randy Richmond’s phone number?

Hate On The Taxpayer’s Dime

For example;

… 536 CBC.ca readers clicked on the link to recommend a comment by ‘sandy411’ in which he/she compared Israel’s assault on Hamas to the Holocaust and added a reference to Israel wanting “pounds of flesh,” like Shylock the Jew.
‘Sandy411’ added: “How many tons of Palestinian women and children will settle your account, Israel?” It was the most popular comment of the day.

Via Mark Steyn who suggests the obvious. “it turns out the Canadian “human rights” secret agents who spend untold hours lurking on unread U.S. “white supremacist” sites in case some hapless loser from Manitoba shows up can find all the hate they want on the taxpayer-funded message boards of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. “
Beauty! Hate speech hosted by government, prosecuted by government, and defended by government – a taxpayer-paid triple header!

The Kangaroos Get Cocky

The Ontario Human Rights Commission petitions to restore muslim women to their proper display of subservience.

The Ontario Human Rights Commission is arguing that a provincial court judge failed to recognize the religious freedoms of a Muslim woman when he ordered her to testify at a sexual assault trial without a veil known as a niqab.
The government agency is asking for special permission to be allowed to intervene at a Superior Court proceeding hearing an appeal of the lower court decision, because of its 45 years of “expertise” in the area of human rights.

(Note that “expertise” is in scare quotes. Heh.)

The commission says it can assist the court in interpreting the Ontario Human Rights code and help explain issues of human rights.
“The Commission’s intention, if it were allowed to intervene, would be to articulate the current state of the law in respect of the duty to accommodate religious beliefs and practices and to explain how Mr. Justice Weisman’s ruling is inconsistent with the current state of the law,” the government agency argues.

Via Andycanuck, who writes – “Isn’t it nice to have a pretend court system and pretend judges wanting to overturn the ruling of a real judge?”

When P meets K.

Steve enlightens us about the shiny white person episode.

“Well, now we’ve got a different story, right? Now, it’s no longer a story about the appropriateness of our choosing Kathy to appear on the program. Now it’s a story about a well known Liberal Party operative threatening us (with what? We didn’t know) unless we did what he said.”

This is a fair example of K’s reaction:

Web Of Hate

Teenage internet web-nazis sentenced to seven years in prison on Thursday for firebombing two Montreal Jewish institutions.
Just kidding! (link fixed)

Under evidence that couldn’t be reported until their guilty plea, investigators say Omar Bulphred and an accomplice were arrested after police heard them on wiretaps talking about abducting a gay man at random to rob him and cut his throat.
Mr. Bulphred, 23, was born in Algeria. He pleaded guilty to three counts of arson and two of uttering threats Thursday morning at the Montreal provincial courthouse.
After 15 minutes’ deliberation, the judge sentenced Mr. Bulphred to seven years in prison. Mr. Bulphred was given 44 months credit for the 22 months he has already served, so the sentence amounts to another 40 months behind bars.
His accomplice Azim Ibragimov, 25, of Kazakh origin, had already pleaded guilty.
Evidence at their bail hearing showed that the two styled themselves as radical Muslim terrorists.

Adscam memo boy reacts – “Look, a shiny white person!”
