Kate, sorry to be off topic, but check the latest issue of Maclean’s, p 3, Aug 17th, for details on the home improvement tax credit.
You are supposed to find free speach and its protectors in universities. Now you find the totalitarianism of the politically correct; although in fairness they did seem to be afraid of blooding their hands by publishing pictures.
So that just means that the violent Muslims need only threaten to blow something up or kill someone if we don’t do what they want, and if we don’t do what we want and someone is killed by a Muslim or something is blown up by a Muslim – it is our fault because we were warned. Very soon our culture will be gone and replaced by theirs.
An example of the Judeo Christan culture becoming more Muslim is an instance I know of where a landlord cannot schedule a viewing of a premise leased to a Muslim family unless the husband is present. Our CHRC proponents would say that scheduling the viewing around the husbands availability is an “accomodation”, that can easily be made. This is just one instance of creeping Islamification. There are plenty more.

Academia exists to educate not to incense. You don’t need a picture of a naked person to discuss nudity. In fact by not showing the cartoons you will get a better discussion because Muslims will participate.

Ask Imam sounds like a TV or radio show. It puts me in mind of the old fifties show called “Father Knows Best” starring Robert Young AKA Marcus Welby MD. During which time Bud, Betty and Kitten would all present their daily travails to Father in search of his wisdom and solutions to their problems.
I can imagine a TV show called “Imam Knows Best” where the robed, bearded misogynistic psychopath comes home from a tough day of preaching death to the infidels, swaps to a more casual turban then sits reading the Koran while his wives tussle with the dozen or so kids in the kitchen. None of them dare disturb the Imam, but rather the wives impart to the children the wisdom learned from their many beatings that they too may understand the path of righteousness and the proper ways to throw a Jew down the well.

The Islamofascists could not think of a clever way to debate these “offensive” cartoons, nor could they muster up the grace to ignore something they saw as foolish. I’m with quite a few here on this topic. I also have, as a prize possession, a Western Standard issue depicting the “Cartoons”. When in Rome do as the Romans do comes to mind. Canada has to stand for what got us here. I am an immigrant to Canada, arriving at age 9 in 1961, from Holland. Sure I am a white protestant but was brought up in the belief that open mindedness to Canada’s “big tent” ideals were a good thing. The times today seem to have evolved to a PC thinking state that goes way too far. If groups from another culture, some what like myself, cannot adapt to the culture, traditions and norms of the culture that they are coming to then to f*cking bad and don’t come. As here on this blog , to paraphrase Kate, this issue seems to just another tent at “folkfest”. Adapt and be thankful.

We have all seen nakedness. We can discuss it in general. But you cannot discuss my nakedness because you have not seen it. What about my missing leg? What about the mole on my butt. Do they exist? Does that affect the discussion? You cannot discuss my nakedness without seeing it unless you are talking in abstractions.
We have not seen the cartoons. We cannot discuss them except in the abstract.
Islam is making inroads into Western society. How can the extent of the inroads be discussed if we cannot see how “reasonable” by Western standards Islam can be. The cartoons are innocuous by Western standards and to debate them in abstract is to miss that point and to in pursuit of Western reasonableness make an accomodation to a special interest group that is in fact contrary to what Western standards stand for. I don’t see how you can make that point without pointing to the cartoons.

Any discussion that is restricted by fear of hurting someone’s feelings or, even worse, fear of violent reprisal, is not even worth having. Any debate, with appeasement as the underlying goal, is a complete waste of time.

It’s hardly an original point, but Holland is the canary in the coalmine. The most “liberal” (unmoored? depraved?) of European cultures has accepted a huge population of hardline (unmoored? depraved?) Muslims and given them no motivation to adapt, to say the least.
