$19T? Phaw.

Trump will eliminate US debt in eight years.
It would take half of the budget every year ($2T), would require massive lay-offs in government, massive changes to entitlements and a complete shutdown of pretty much everything else.
That’s okay though, cause he’s going to “renegotiate trade deals and renegotiate military deals”…in his first 100 days….

  1. Oh come on Lance, his position will evolve just like his position on abortion, he will soon explain that when said he wanted to eliminate debt he really meant to keep it as is or something along those lines.

  2. I’d give him a flyer… the worst that could happen is that he tries and fails. The normal would be that he just breaks his promise and the media shrugs their shoulders, right? Just like Trudeau? Right?

  3. Between Trump and our PM (with his 30+ billion federal deficit, spending/borrowing my money on GodsKnowsWhat), I reckon that Trump has a better sense of “the deal”.

  4. The people who constantly chide and deride Trump are obviously the kind that will continue to drive on a flat tire and bitch about the vehicles handling. The moron the US has driving the ship presently, along with our Canadian moron leader couldn’t organize the purchase of toilet paper for one of Trumps many buildings, but fools were fooled by them. If my choice is an accomplished businessman over a crooked witch, a communist a community organizer or a spoiled petulant visionless trust fund lisperer, well that’s an easy one for anyone with at least one coherrant thought a day.

  5. “massive lay-offs in government, massive changes to entitlements” – excellent plan, the sooner it starts, the better

  6. The difference between Trump’s lies and Obama’s are that Obama supporters know he is lying and either justify them as ends justifying means or don’t care, while Trumps supporters seem to act like they reflect reality. Leonard Read postulated that a politician’s achievements and quality of governance is only as good as the means by which he attains office. In our degraded culture, are honest politicians actually electable? Harper was likely one of the more honest politicians and he held power mostly due to a split opposition.

  7. Whats so hard about that?
    There is no free lunch.
    20 Trillion in 8 years..a mere 2.5 trillion/year.
Fire 75% of the federal Kleptocracy in the first year.
Winnow the rest in the next.
Hand back to the states, state responsibilities .
Restrict the Federal Government to constitutional responsibilities.
    Shut down all the Quangos.
Kick the UN out, after shaking them down for back rent.
Just by cutting off the parasites your 19 Trillion is easy.
having the international dependents pay their share would certainly help.
The resultant productivity upswing would probably have the USA posting a profit in 5 years.
Not to mention the sweet arms deals for the current freeloading allies, who would have to do their share,at last.

  8. Hey, Lance, guess what has got the US economy in trouble in the first place?
The Federal Reserve, the income tax, the EPA, the Department of Education, the demands that banks give mortgages to people who obviously can’t pay back.
The government pensions for all the bureaucrats, the kind that bankrupted Detroit, will also bankrupt the US.
Fire the whole lot of them, lock, stock, and barrel.

  9. Exactly, there are very few gov’t employees that are required to perform the duties that we actually need.
Don’t forget, to properly consider the negative impact of a gov’t employee one mustn’t just think of their salary, as that is the negligible part. The real damage comes from the hell they create for productive members of society via the formulation and application of red-tape ( example: introduction of uncontrollable delays into unnecessary and non-value adding administrative steps) and all too often pure vindictiveness.

  10. US debt per capita ~ $60,000
Canadian debt per capita ~ $45,000 in USD
Somebody should put the credit cards away, but I fear the Pony will try to equal or best
his new buddy Barry. At least Don is trumpeting the existence and perils of debt.

  11. It is said Democracy is finished when voters discover they can vote themselves free money.Witness BamBam and our own sorry ass excuse of a primeminister.Turdeau is simply taking a page from BamBams playbook, run the country into the ground with deficits and blame previous governments.

  12. the idiot who wrote the article is playing to math dumbo lieberals like lance. Lance, ewe ever hear of reverse mtgs, and compounding? And then throw in a improved economy, and he may just make a huge dent min the debt, if not eliminate it.
Yup, Lance, you once said you were a “social” liberal, and you are, fact you are ALL liberal
and why pillar olde Lumpy for barking the same as the rest of the would be POTUS’

  13. Excuse me. But all of you who are in favour of this accelerated pace of downsizing government are kidding yourselves. Even the great economist/libertarian Milton Friedman said you’d need to unwind decades of government growth and attendant socialism slowly and gently.
Trump supporters should be careful what they wish for. My fear is that they’re helping to elect Bernie Sanders.

  14. “Whats so hard about that?…Fire 75% of the federal Kleptocracy in the first year. Winnow the rest in the next.”
“Fire the whole lot of them, lock, stock, and barrel.”
“Yup, Lance, you once said you were a “social” liberal, and you are, fact you are ALL liberal”
Hey Lance, you ever wish that the quality of the readers that SDA attracts was better than it is?

  15. IIRC New Zealand went through a process in government where entire departments were almost eliminated entirely, save for the Minister and perhaps a handful of staff, rather than hundreds of government employees.
    It bears investigation.

  16. Better not touch the police and the military, they are going to be required to keep the parasites in line after they are cut off the taxpayer teats. Pretty sure all those nice servants aren’t going to be so civil.

  17. I would like to see Trump as president and for him to do what he has said here. It would hopefully start a trend all over the States and then spill into Canada and beyond. The shti is going to hit the fan anyway so may as well do it with both eyes wide open.

  18. Groan…
The only redeeming quality of these tedious lance posts are the comments rebuking his liberal lameness…

  19. I vote for the massive layoffs in government. In fact, Harding showed that is the only thing that works. If you think any Republican in Washington now will cut government, you are being duped.

  20. Yes, New Zealand did make those changes to government. Furthermore, they also cut off all the subsidies to a heavily subsidized agriculture industry.
    Many great comments above.
Whether you hate Trump or support him, the US is at a crossroads of sink or swim and needs someone to make drastic changes in the whole rotten system. Non of the establishment good old boys will make the necessary changes.

  21. Part of me hopes Trump gets in…just to see liberal heads explode across the globe. I think he might do a good job, but probably not as good as he says he will though.
And this leads to something I have been saying for years that conservatives need to learn from liberals. Tell the people what they want to hear. Who cares if you have any plans to follow through. There is a large part of the population that will believe something if it’s something they want to believe. Why do you think the Nigerian money scam keeps working?

  22. Thomas Piketty in his widely bought and never read book “Capital in the 21st Century” wrote that governments (British, French, Italian, American, Canadian) throughout history, regardless of their conservative or liberal ways, spend their money such that the net assets and net liabilities of the country add up to zero. If the US debt is $19 T then someone out there thinks they have $19 T in assets. The only time a government runs into trouble is during very high interest rates (debt servicing becomes unmanageable) or if GDP is falling (liabilities seen exceeding assets). Otherwise you can borrow to your heart’s content.

  23. Trump has really stepped in it this last week or so, taking on water, very high disapproval among women. Looks like it could be Cruz. Wisconsin next week could be pivotal. The very popular Governor there, Scott Walker, has now endorsed Ted Cruz.
That said, I cannot figure out what is going on at SDA. Either there has been a major change of heart, ideology or the keys have been handed over. Perhaps it is just a way to generate traffic the way some media do it – be pro ‘A’ one day and then pro ‘B’ the next. That way you will have the opposite groups battle it out (as is happening)and generate more interest, traffic? If it is true it is too bad, hope I am wrong. However, being unpredictable can be a strength I guess, witness Trump(so far), heh.
Why does Canada not have a major alternate, new media website? The USA has Drudge(huge! following) and they have Brietbart and Hotair and Instapundent and more. Rebel Media? I think they are too focused on spending money producing TV type news items. Matt Drudge spends very little running The Drudge Report yet is very effective bigtime! in driving the news by pointing out the huge failings of the mainstream media. In this regard there is hardly anyone personally better than Kate – head and shoulders above someone like Arianna Huffington yet I believe SDA has no where near the name recognition and traffic per capita as HuffPo. How come ?? In ten years I have never had someone say they are familiar with smalldeadanimals or even heard about it. And yet when I send out a link of a Kate post people are often amazed at the depth of irony, relevance, karma, exposure, juxtapose, often in just one line!! And although SDA has done well it has not yet achieved a level where it can drive the news in Canada. Could it be that too many sites, even semi-friendly ones, are reluctant to link to smalldeadanimals.com? If so why?

  24. If the US got out of federal areas that are an intrusion into state jurisdiction, they’d be half way there. Rick Perry at different times suggested tossing chucking Commerce, Education and Energy plus sometimes Interior. Throw in the EPA, DEA, and ATF and the country would be a lot stronger.

  25. “Excuse me. But all of you who are in favour of this accelerated pace of downsizing government are kidding yourselves. Even the great economist/libertarian Milton Friedman said you’d need to unwind decades of government growth and attendant socialism slowly and gently.”..
Sure and where has that worked?
At current trends and historical precedents , our future is;Takers /Makers ratio becomes higher that 1.
Societal collapse as makers withdraw.(Withdrawal seems to begin at a ratio of 1/10 or there a bouts.)
    Chaos follows.
Increasing Government seems to be the norm, plenty of cover for the klepto’s,always room for a new ministry.
    But reducing the load?
Those who have a statist bent, seem to think government has money of its own.
Rather than extorting individuals wealth to bureaucratic ends.
If government has its own wealth, who is the government?

  26. The problem with Piketty’s argument is debt servicing costs, recessions and the vagaries of big government are omnipresent, rather than nuisances, now with systemic deficits around $20b/yr and counting.
Debt service costs are just about $30b, the same as the deficit, and 11% of revenues. They hit 40% at their heyday heralding growth killing marginal tax rates over 50%. The rub is no asset is carrying this borrowing, just the power of taxation. This is has been going on for decades, consumption debt. Trudeau I borrowed to finance consumption year after year and we still feel its effects today. We’re approaching the cliff again as we did in the Chretien era.
Inflation resulting in high interest rates, above 6%, would cripple our economy in our slow growth aging boomer era. We can all relate to the obscene waste government can produce, better to keep a tight leash with limited government, rather than white elephants in the room stomping out growth, prosperity and freedom.

  27. Your numbers are not correct. Comparing federal debt to federal debt, the U.S. is currently at about $80,000 Cdn per capita (it is about $61,000 U.S.) while the Canadian federal debt per capita is just over $17,000 Cdn. And that is thanks to PM Harper’s steady hand at the economic wheel during the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression….about half of the U.S. debt now is courtesy of Obama and virtually ALL of that took place after the U.S. came out of the recession.

  28. Joey, I included Provincial debt in my rough calculation, but I agree Federal debt under Harper since 2008 increased about 25% and under Barry it has increased 100%.
A good comparison to decide who is the more Drunk Sailor.

  29. All those who pshaw Trump on his ability to take on the job of commander-in-chief seem to forget that the last dolt to fill those shoes had a resume of a community organizer. Trump is a proven entrepreneur who doesn’t do things off the cuff but researches every move or deal.

  30. Spare us your sanctimonious drivel Lance. At least Trump is mentioning the debt……and what did O’bummer accomplish debt-wise??…+9 trillion??…more??….or perhaps you prefer Justine’s approach to debt management?

  31. Doesn’t Trump CARE about women (read: helpless), children, immigrants, crippled, veterans, elderly, yadda yadda yadda ? Is he going to push all of their wheelchairs over a cliff, just so all the RICH can buy a shiny new Tesla ?
My college Poli-Sci professor taught us that deficits don’t matter. That governments are “beyond” deficits. That governments can just refuse to pay back the money. The government can just have the army seize your investment accounts to fund the deficit. In order to stay in power, they will play Robin Hood by TAKING from productive citizens and giving to the unproductive. Government doesn’t have to balance a budget, or pay-off its deficit. Come on Donald ! The government will just declare “bankruptcy”
Balancing the budget ONLY becomes a leftist dream … if it is accomplished by TAKING MORE from someone who can be demonized. Yes, of course this is malignantly idiotic, but hey … it sounds good to the feckless and weak minded. Sounds good to leftist ghouls and goons.

  32. Trump points out the US pays a disproportionate share of NATO’s expenses and the howling dogs yelp that Trump wants the US to abandon NATO.
Other than the fact NATO’s charter was to counteract Soviet expansion and the Soviet Union has not been around for 25 years, Trump is correct when he says other countries should pay their fair share of NATO’s budget.
Ditto for the United Nations. The US picks up a disproportionate amount of dues to that useless organization and all they get is abuse for it, much like central Canada treats the western provinces.
So, part of Trump’s idea to help balance the US budget is to get the freeloaders to pay their bills. Something wrong with that?

  33. “Other than the fact NATO’s charter was to counteract Soviet expansion and the Soviet Union has not been around for 25 years, ”
    @ Koni:
One subhuman from Kremlin = other subhuman from Kremlin, the threat didn’t change just because the Siberian horde changed its foul banners (they even march to the same tune).

  34. Such intolerance and derisive labeling personally directed at one of the forum owners by someone who simply does not share beliefs.
It’s people like that who give Trump supporters a bad name.
Does AitP host a forum where he posts his views for comments?

  35. “At least Trump is mentioning the debt……and what did O’bummer accomplish debt-wise??.”
And what in your inbred skullf***ed brains convinced you that anyone here (Trump supporter or Trump opponent) supports Ogabe?
Someone points out that Trump is wrong, Trumpet response: “Ogabe is wrongerer”. Someone points out that Trump supporters are often way too aggressive, Trumpet response: “Sanders supporters are more aggressive,
Someone points out he did a 180 on abortion again, Trumped response: “Where were you when planned parenthood…”
Someone points out Trump supports the “assault gun ban”, Trumped response: something about Clinton.
And if these delicately constructed arguments fail, trumpets can always fall back on the patented: “establishment hates him, you cucservative” which appears to be a Trumpet version of “shut up, they explained”.

  36. “gimmedats/freeloaders” sure get restless when anyone mentions entitlements and paying off the debt…

  37. So, when Trump pointed out in his Wisconsin speech today that the Soviet Union no longer exists, was he lying?
Or is it Obama that’s lying about the Russian threat to cover his own incompetence?
Seems to me that while chicken Obama is sitting back criticizing Russia, they’re the ones helping take care of Daesh, or ISIS if you prefer.
I know. There’s no sense in debating a hater like you, colonista.
You’ve got your mind made up and facts just confuse you.

  38. Yawn Koni, pootinistan is the enemy of western civilization and needs to be hurt on every opportunity. If they’re not being hurt they’re hurting their betters. First Moldova, then Georgia, then Ukraine, Baltic states next, then Poland. Siberian Mongols never stop and Trump declaring they’re no longer a threat only proves that he is a short sighted knee jerk idiot just like the “reset” idiots before him. You want pootinistan to dominate and subjugate all of Eastern Europe (every Siberian Mongols believes it is their God given right) so you support Trump. No surprises here.
Oh, and in case isolationists read the above. If you believe that is ok for US to abandon Europe, fine believe that, just don’t pretend that long run consequences will be anything but subjugation of the Eastern Europe to the Siberian Mongol horde.

  39. I agree. A sanctioned mouth overrules an unsanctioned mouth … especially if by a special relationship ensures that it is so.
Seems you’re getting a little to old for common sense … go shopping for pudding.

  40. None of this will end well no matter what the outcome of the election is.
    Kaisich= kick the can
Cruz = wash rinse repeat maybe a little harder scrubbing but bush 2.0 ( I like Cruz but the kleptocracy will block his every effort)
Trump = assassinated by colonista, and beheaded by Al in cranbrook.
Bernie = civil war will break out.
Hillary = does what Obama and free willy tell her too stick a fork in America .
Canada is even worse , except we have no rights or ability to fight back , or even vote a hard right fiscal conservative/libertarian into office. The instant they even mentioned a responsible adult platform they would be ripped apart by the media and trust me folks Canada IS a 90% socialist country. Take health care off the table as in you find your own way through private or some other way ….Canadians would collectively loose their minds. Ok that’s too much and totally unfair because health care is a human right.
Ok let’s try welfare. Completely eliminate it of course taxes lowered accordingly same with the healthcare proposition. Canadians collectively lose their minds. Because welfare is a human right.
Ok let’s try selling every single crown corporation in the entire country/gov funded business that is not military. Canadians collectively lose their minds. Because crown corporations are a human right.
Ok let’s try Abolishing the dairy , poultry, and other cartels…….Canadians collectively lose their minds…because poultry and dairy cartels are a human right.
Ok let’s try cutting 30% of the Canadian government size and scope that is not military……..Canadians collectively lose their minds…..because Canadian government is a human right.
Ok ok ok one last try…..let’s lift the mandatory requirement to where a helmet on any bicycle motorized or not ( and allow private for profit health care to coincide with this so Canadians don’t foot the bill for idiots which is the same essentially as eliminating our health care but giving freedom back to Canadians to decide how they want to ride their Harley ) ……..Canadians collectively loose their minds……gov mandatory helmets are a human right.
I quit!!! The chickens will come home to roost and when they do this will not be good for Canada we cannot defend our boarders or our country from Zimbabwe let alone Russia , China, USA, or pretty much any nation that has a second rate military. Our standing military infantry is 40,000 soldiers for a country that is almost a ten million square Kms of area. Our weapons are a joke my Finnish friends laugh .
I know I know the fighting Canadian spirit we do more with less don’t mess with a Canadian …blah blah blah. Numbers don’t lie . We are a pathetic socialist country full of pathetic socialist sympathizes who think if you say sorry enough no one will hurt you. And that works great until it doesn’t . Then what? I can’t wait for it to all end I just wish it would happen sooner rather than later.

  41. He he, loved the rant.
But why would I kill Trump? I expect him to win the nomination and in that case I will hope he wins against whichever communist the other side nominates. Just because I don’t think he is very bright or honest or principled, just because a lot of his most vocal supporters are brown shirt wanna bes, that he masterfully manipulates into frenzy, it does not mean that in the end he is not a better choice than Hitlery or the red diaper baby. He is still more or less our son of a bitch and by an order of magnitude=de better than theirs.

  42. Great rant Paul. You know, you are 98% right about every line. I am almost done here, but my kids and grandkids have a long way to go and I dread what they will be in for shortly, as I expect them to have a commissar dictate their every move and remaining liberty, and, or, have the females among my descendants bagged like common chattel.
Lousie Arbour, at the recent Munk debates, thinks it won’t happen and is too blind to see that it is happening in Europe and the places that it is happening is increasing exponentially.

  43. Yes, we should listen to the WaPo “factcheckers” who in their first paragraph cannot figure out the difference between debt and deficit.
But hey, they are journalists and Trump is just some dumb billionaire who employs 25,000 people, and wrote a foolish book called Art of the Deal (It appears few, if any, on here have read that book).
Couldn’t Lance find something from the CTV “factcheckers” or Politifact?
What is going on with this blog where there are insults like Trumpets thrown at supporters of common sense? It appears there are quite a few Joe Clark-like supporters here. Fine I guess, because all opinions should be heard, but it is disappointing.
