A Mere Pittance

What 16 months of COVID lockdowns have cost us

The most crushing pandemic debt in the G20, and thousands of deaths attributable to the effects of lockdowns.

This is by far the most expensive thing Canada has ever done In March 2020, just as the first stay-at-home orders were hitting Canadian cities, the country’s federal debt stood at $721.4 billion. Only one year later, the Department of Finance was pegging the debt load at $1.2 trillion.

When you’re playing with other peoples money and other peoples lives.

Blood and treasure.

  1. And the entire time, every public sector worker kept getting paid and paid and . . . paid. Why would they ever complain?!

  2. How much money did big business make during all this? Scroll down to the Michael Malice video I put up the other day to find out. It’s called “the war on small business”.

    1. I needed new batteries for my car key fob. I went to the local auto parts store where I have always got them before, and he doesn’t have any and can’t get any. I ended up getting them off Amazon instead. Amazon must be making money hand over fist.

  3. Remember, if it saves even one life….. right? Yeah, a real bargain, isn’t it?

    1. That saying is not permissible if supporting a non-Leftist, non-Globalist position or policy. You are not allowed to use it because reasons.

  4. And when you can conjure “money” out of thin air.
May Richard Nixon rot in hell for killing the gold link in 1971.
Tho by that time the link had already softened.

Most people would stare at you in astonishment were you to say, “There should be a total separation of money and state” and probably call “social services”. Most believe that money came from government in the first place.

  5. I was in downtown Toronto this morning, driving along Queen Street W. The number of shops closed up with ‘For Lease’ signs was staggering. This is the real cost that has not been factored in. Just think how many lives have been ruined by this, and the damage is ongoing.

To think I actually voted for Doug the Thug: fool me once ……..

    1. I noticed the same thing here in Redmonton in the past 2 weeks.

I took my truck to a body shop just off 51st Avenue and east of Calgary Trail (I refuse to call it “Gateway Boulevard”). It’s part of an older industrial section of the city and I noticed some prime property, including buildings and parking lots, that were empty or had “For Sale” or “For Lease” signs outside.

Some of that started under Red Rachel’s tyranny and the businesses in question never recovered.

    2. And every other store is a pot shop. I suppose if everyone is stoned they won’t notice how much their life sucks.

      1. or they know their life sucks and thus stone.

He who lives in glass houses should not throw out the stoner.

  6. The federal Government forced businesses to close and put people out of work and then provided them with a UBI.
But the money is only part of it.
The Government has trained/re-educated hundreds of thousands of young people that Government is the solution. to everything.
Government also trained them that going into business for ones self is fraught with risk.
Government has increased its foothold in every day life while putting a stranglehold on existential individual liberty.

Its a wet dream for Juthtin and statists across the country.

Only the provinces have the power to fight back and the only way to do that is to render Confederation null and void.

    1. then provided them with a UBI

A more accurate description is “dog-f***ing money” because that’s what people are paid to do absolutely nothing. Oh, I forgot: it’s supposed to unleash all that hidden or confined “creativity”.

Thanks, Juthtin, for all that “art” being created now

      1. Thankfully, my own personal Art has market value … it should be noted that REAL Art needs no subsidies.

      2. When government is small and out of your hair you are free to carry on your business to provide for yourself .
        Freedom.

When .gov is big and in your face telling you what to do especially paying you to do nothing, you become dependant upon them.
You then become subservient to them.
        Slavery.

    2. @Buddy
Only the provinces have the power to fight back. ???
Not here in full blown Commie Manitoba. The “conservative” government has genuflected biggly to ensure their taxpayer funded vac-kay will never end. They love the lockdowns, they love working out a the taxpayer funded gym, they love hanging out at their cottages instead of answering the emails and phone calls from the voters. 70% vaxzed? No that isn’t going to cut it. 75%? No we need 80%. Delta variant? Only the Phizer booster will take care of that. Pallister has a cozy relationship with Winnipeg based BioTech and all that matters is keeping the royalties rolling. I wonder if he is getting paid in Costa Rican “Colons”? Which is exactly where us stupid Manitobans are getting it.

  7. I personally believe something else is in the works, we aren’t privy to it yet, something so huge it’ll blow our minds. A huge paradigm shift if you will. (Cue Buffalo Springfields “For What it’s Worth”) They’re all reading from the same script. Sorry, but that’s just too weird for me. And all news contrary to the script is snuffed out immediately by big tech and corporate media. For gov’ts to insist the whole world be vaccinated for something so benign as this virus and where they’re constantly lowering the bar for our children to get a shot that hasn’t been adequately tested and where statistically speaking you’re more likely to be involved in a serious car accident on your way to get the shot then dying from the virus has me shaking my head.
And BTW…you’d have to be semi retarded to think tanking small businesses the way they have wasn’t intentional.
1.2 trillion dollar debt load? So who the hell is going to pay for that? – three options. Print money…raise taxes…or a Greek style IMF bailout with strings attached.
    I’m betting on the latter.
Paranoia…Conspiracy theorist? Yeah, right…it was this time last year where Big media/leftists and everyone else told us how the “vaccine passports” meme was all a load of hooey and tin foil hat bullshittery.
So where are we now? Vaccine passports.
Listening to a lecture on YouTube last night, half asleep of course, and as these things work I got a commercial midway courtesy of the CBC, the gist of which was “if we all stand together we can “make a giant leap forward”. Holy shit!!!! What page from Mao’s Little Red Book is that from?
Red flags were raised last year when I noticed ten flights a day were arriving from China into YVR when the “pandemic” was in full swing, so I’m calling it now.
They’re just warming up. We’d better wake up.

    1. They still haven’t fixed our fuel supply problem in Ontario and haven’t prepared for an alternative.
So, your right, other factors are already set up to make things much worse.

      1. Soviet style lineups for our food and fuel could very well be in our future while the sociopaths in Ottawa nibble on their foie gras at the finest restaurants on our dime.

      2. I’ve been waiting for that “fuel problem” to materialize for a while and have posted on it, before. Has to do with Michigan and Enbridge Line 5. There’s a poll posted today in comments in Readers Tips, by Paul Harvey @ 1:30 AM about it, that defines the utter stupidity of Ontarioans on the subject.
I’m not shedding any tears for the folks in Ontario, or Quebec for that matter. Bring it. All the Lithium in the world won’t solve their problem (and it is theirs), either and Quebec doesn’t have the hydro capacity to fill the void, even for themselves. “Too bad TC Energy will never agree to do it.”
        Once burned, twice shy

    2. I noticed ten flights a day were arriving from China into YVR when the “pandemic” was in full swing

As I’ve mentioned on SDA a few times before, I saw that first-hand. On some of my trips to and from my house in B. C., I changed planes in Vancouver. I saw Chinese airliners taxiing along the tarmac while Prinz Dummkopf boasted that foreign travel to Canada had been suspended.

I’m reminded of an old joke about PET: How can one tell when Pierre Trudeau was lying? His lips moved. I guess we can apply that to his (adopted) son.

    3. To the tin foil point, it’s a straight up depopulation plan. The Elites have long considered the world too populated w/ “useless eaters” and seeing how foolish and gullible my neighbours, friends and some family actually are, I’m having a hard time disagreeing, though “properly” incubated, ideas from the human mind is the world’s best resource.

A conspiracy is but a plan between parties to arrange a gain for themselves. We have a serious class war issue and currently, the minority w ALL the money is “winning.” We can’t even say we have ALL the people; see “useless eater” above.

  8. The end game has always been total control over the sheeple. Scare them shitless over a virus that has a recovery rate greater than
99.7% for all age groups combined and then finish them off with an experimental agent that has and will kill or maim hundreds
of millions of brainwashed morons. I totally agree with Polly. She hits another home run,
    https://www.bitchute.com/video/Jb8qRe07nvWV/

    1. “…over a virus that has a recovery rate greater than 99.7% for all age groups combined…”

Go multiple 0.3% by the current population of Canada (38,131,104).

      1. Assholes like you really get a kick out of harassing 99.7% of the population because of 0.3%. Its assholes like you that enable freaks like Yaniv, and the mutilation of children.
I bet you’ve never jumped a bike, enjoyed waterskiing, or climbed a cliff. Just because you’re an abject coward scared of your own shadow is a pretty poor excuse to foist your fears on everybody else, and start trying to ban shadows.

  9. I take solace in the fact that, whatever the government has in store for us, they will screw it up royally. They managed to lose money selling dope, for Christ’s sake.

    1. As Milton Friedman once ruefully noted, “Thank heaven that we don’t get all of the government that we are made to pay for.”

  10. 30% of Calgary’s downtown buildings are empty.

The federal gov’t has said they don’t see a return to not having a yearly deficit until 2070.

  11. Don’t worry. The great reset will fix all these problems. (That is sarcasm, by the way.)

  12. Some brain dead fools believe this covid scamdemic will soon end and things go back to normal and it’ll be business as
it used to be. To those people I say give your head a shake. We are in a war between deep state, globalist psychopaths
who have implemented their plan to depopulate our planet versus normal people without visions of grandeur who just
want to live their lives. Clive Maund has written an excellent article on how he sees current state of affairs and quite
frankly I find it scary but not inconceivable. This war we are in is for the future of mankind so there will be no half way
    measures employed by either side.

  13. It is time for The Great Retirement, where powerful and wealthy government, business, and cultural elites who try to interfere with the rights of individuals are made to retire to quiet seclusion and anonymity.

We can throw them big parties, congratulating them for their success and myriad accomplishments, proclaiming them the greatest of all time in their various fields. Then escort them to quiet seaside villas or ski chalets, hobby farms, and yachts. They can have parties, social events, and enjoy their vast wealth as they fade into history.

And all they need to do to avoid unpleasant interactions with the common folk is to largely keep to themselves and refrain from imposing their will and opinions on others.

  14. Chris sky has been bang on how this would unfold. Surprised that he’s never linked here

  15. It continues, for as long as anyone, anywere, writes lines like “they have such good intentions, they are so noble, it is only by error that the old people died”.

It is another year of lockdowns, every time someone starts a sentence with “I am no anti vaxxer but, … “.

Try, stop being polite. Try, stop apologizing before you start. Or, you can keep trying all the same things that have failed up till now. Maybe this time is different.
