That’s the thing. So what is correct. It was never appropriate to lock things down, so saying “it’s time to stop farting around and open everything up” is stale and predictable.

I spent a few nights in Manitoba. Yesterday my buddy said you’ve got to got thru the ‘friendly Manitoba’ experience at the government run liquor store – so off we go.
He drops me off at the liquor store in Selkirk. I walk up to the door and go in ( vestibule) whereupon I’m confronted by an officious unionista who demands a piece of government issued ID before I can proceed into the store. I produce my gun licence and ask what this is about, thinking it has something to do with covid. Not a chance. She runs my ID looking for any criminal convictions or outstanding citations. If she finds anything I’m refused entry and barred from purchasing liquor (I’d have to go to a private liquor vendor). I pass muster proceed and pickup a bottle of gin.
At the checkout the cashier orders me to turn the bottle toward her to scan the bar code. She could have easily turned the bottle herself but I guess I contaminated it when I brought it to the counter.
I left, flummoxed by the entire experience and asked my buddy WTF that was all about. He said some worker had been punched or threatened and this had come about from union demands.
Wait until tourists show up and get tortured by this over the top crap. What are governments doing selling liquor anyway? There are private pot shops all over the place.
How can you reasonable expect things to open up when your government allows an exercise like this to go ahead?
Difficult to imagine why anyone would punch a union man in the face.

Last time I was at the liquor store the guy behind the glass had a mask and rubber gloves. When I passed my ID through the slot he sprayed both sides with disinfectant. Then buzzed me in.
Imagine that’s what you do all day.
I always knew Manitoba was not worth going to but wow no chance of go there by choice.
They’re not checking anything in the 5 seconds they have your ID. The government was afraid to address a theft problem, least they be called racists so we now have to produce ID.

The private liquor stores don’t have a system in place like the government ones have. Is the theft confined to only the government stores?
Last guy that tried to steal beer in our town left the store empty handed and bruised. The volunteer fire department was having an illegal meeting for a few beers and they helped the guy into his vehicle so he could leave town quickly. Oh sorry about that windshield but in this weather you didn’t need one anyone. Our guys hardly ever call police anymore. There’s no point. They are 90 minutes away in a life and death emergency and even if you call they do nothing but scratch notes in their little black notebooks and discuss intergenerational trauma or they hand out tickets for not being COVID compliant.
Order booze from reliable private sector folks. Hmm … Well, I guess that realistically only works in urban environments.

This is exactly what I experienced there last summer. It’s because they basically had native gangs going in large groups and grabbing as much liquor as they could and fleeing. Used to be such a great place and is now run by idiotic Marxists.

From lethal pandemic to common cold: what we can learn from the events of 1889-90
