  1. As I expected, the Canadian MSM BS about Justine and Baba Yaga being thoroughly involved in the crucial negotiations over the weekend was pure, unadulterated BS. Really, what could one expect either of those knobs to contribute to such discussions?

Reuters is reporting what it claims really happened…it’s a totally different story:

Trump summed up the atmosphere in typically blunt fashion, saying on Wednesday, “We don’t like their representative very much.”

“There was a moment where the traditional channels of negotiations appeared to break down because they just could not get through some of the largest issues,” said a person in Washington familiar with the situation.

Kushner kept talking to [“PM’s secretary”] Gerald Butts and [PMO Chief of Staff ] Katie Telford, and on Thursday a message got through that the United States wanted to know what was non-negotiable for Canada.

On Friday, Kushner got Lighthizer on a conference call with Telford and Butts. “Together the four of them worked through some of the outstanding issues and that led to a breakthrough in the negotiations, ultimately leading to the success of the deal,” said the person in Washington.

The talks intensified, with Telford “talking on the phone the entire time,” in the end with Kushner, said the fourth Canadian source.

The offices of Freeland and Trudeau did not respond to requests for comment. The White House declined to comment.

    1. Certainly a more authentic sounding narrative of what likely took place. Freeland and Trudeau have pretty much done little except embarrass us from Day 1 of these negotiations.

      1. When watching the press conference with the PMOs Press Secretary Justin Trudeau I couldnt help but watch that DOLT of a negotiator Freelands incessant waving to her buddies in the press corps.
All I could think of was ” Is this the level of self restraint and focus she brought to the table while negotiating??”
Hopefully the real negotiators let her play with crayons at the little table in the corner with her pal Juthtin drawing new emojis to describe their feelings.

      2. Yes,I agree, BUT: https://vancouversun.com/news/politics/lng-canada-green-light

Today,Trudeau and Horgan announce the biggest private project in B.C.’s history, the Kitimat LNG depot!!

Let me give you the LPC election propaganda a bit early, “PM Trudeau successfully completed a trade agreement with the deranged American President, AND brought in the biggest LNG project in Canadian history”. Add to these great feats of amazing PM magic the legalization of marijuana that saw over ten million Canadians have a criminal record for merely smoking a harmless drug ( okay I made up that figure, vying for a spot on the PM’s campaign team, don’t worry it will be believed) AND cutting excess carbon production by over 50 million tons (again, made up) and we have a can’t miss scenario.

Of course, the Opposition DOES have Andrew Scheer. (see how I spelled his name right?)

Trudeau to win in 2019, probably with a solid majority of 200 seats.

        1. Trying to out “Trudeau” a Trudeau will never work.
The way to beat him, and yes he like anyone else he can be beaten, is to find his followers emotional weakness.
His appeal is all about him being the most loved in all the land, any accomplishments or failures are of no matter.
They love him, regardless of what he does or doesn’t do.
Because his appeal is emotional, the trick is to attach him to some unappealing emotions.

        2. But
Turdeau could have had two more LNG projects and another 1 to 2 million barrels per day oil production.

While Turdeau was (and still is) pontificating about global warming the USA whilst under the environmental president (Obama) increased its oil production from 5.5 million barrels per day in 2008 to 10.5 million barrels per day in 2016!

      And pasting this here:

Bloomberg reports citing people familiar with the talks… which also includes a “heavily involved” Justin Trudeau… (Zero Hedge put heavily involved in quotes… heh..)

And the credibility award goes to…… super unnecessary drum-roll here…..

Viewer notes: The (lower case) credibility award I have presented here carries all the prestige of a Pulitzer without the required political affiliation.

      1. Well, I am puzzled. I started to write that, but double checked and discovered Trudeau was off on Saturday, not Friday. So I erased the comment and did not post. You will notice the comment does not appear above. So where did you get it? Very creepy. My subsequent comment stands — Trudeau and Freeland have embarrassed us from Day 1.

Interesting. Of course Trudeau was not involved in the decision since it was his day off. I’ll bet Liberals were sweating bullets. I will look forward to seeing details.

Not sure what may have happened, but considering the amount of crap we have to do to post (thanks scammers!) it may not be accidental. Copy Cat?

I find paging back and forth keeps type in the comment box. possibly it slipped thru there. that’s the only explanation I have. otherwise ya, strange.

I wish captcha would remember one’s nom de plume the same way.

    3. Yeah but the Media Cartel all agree that Juthtin the Molester out negotiated a billionaire Real Estate mogul. Jerry Diaz’s “brothers and sisters” wouldn’t lie would they? Henceforth substitute drama teachers/snowboard instructors/trustfund jagoffs should negotiate every trade deal from now on and they should also bring along an arrogant hectoring woman, preferably a midget wearing a cocktail dress who feeds Popsicle’s to her lazy stupid Media pets and has a Nazi family history… she should also have some kind of “journalism” education but with absolutely no experience in economics or trade but does come equipped with the mandatory front hole… You go girl! HUGS! Or, you can let unelected PM Butts and his greasy sidekick Telford do the heavy lifting behind closed doors and later on send out the actor with the fake eyebrows and the midget lady to take the credit for the deal and bask in the Media adulation… More Popsicles! I really don’t care, but we do know that optics are everything… Oh, and they should all work for foreign interests, preferably China or George Soros, or both… Although that information should be kept secret from the “middow clath and those working hard to join the middow clath”. Girl Power! Socks!

    4. The U.S. now has veto authority over any trade deal made by Canada and/or Mexico with third parties. This is what Ambassador Lighthizer described as the “Third pillar”.
      According to this website. https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/10/01/massive-win-nafta-loophole-closed-canada-and-mexico-agree-to-u-s-approval-authority-of-any-future-trade-agreements-with-third-parties/

  2. Quebec edges less left and turfs the long ruling Liberals. But there’s still trouble in the background. “PQ leader Jean-François Lisée lost his own seat in Montreal to the left-leaning sovereigntist upstart party Québec Solidaire, and as of 11 p.m. the party was expected to retain just nine seats with 17 per cent of the vote. Québec Solidaire, led by co-spokespeople Manon Massé and Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, looked set to increase its seat count from three to 10, with 16 per cent of the vote.”
Regarding the USMCA: “This agreement is a disgrace,” said Lisée. “When Canada chooses, it always chooses Ontario and the rest of the country and always sacrifices Quebec.”
    https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/francois-legaults-caq-wins-quebec-election-ends-nearly-50-years-of-two-party-rule-in-province

    1. “‘This agreement is a disgrace,’ said Lisée. ‘When Canada chooses, it always chooses Ontario and the rest of the country and always sacrifices Quebec.'”

Yeah, right. You and your PQ tanked big time, dear. Sounds much more like “une déclaration de dépit” to me!

  3. Scott Adams’ stepson died yesterday of what was likely a fentanyl overdose. In a video this morning Adams made some interesting comments on eliminating the supply of fentanyl to the USA and comments on California’s laws that prevent others from intervening, even in a case of imminent harm such as his stepson.
If you’ve been following Adams you’ll likely have seen this already. If you haven’t been following, it’s rather raw and personal.

  4. Andrew McCarthy:
“In executing their Delay, Delay, Delay strategy against President Trump’s nomination of the eminently qualified Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, the most risible and blatantly political claim posited by Democrats is their objection to his purported lack of judicial temperament. The idea is that, because Judge Kavanaugh reacted with indignation to slanders that he is a gang-rapist, and because he observed that the unabashed left-wing smears against him were, well, left-wing smears, he is unfit to be an objective jurist — as opposed to a normal human being, and a perceptive one at that.

Of course, the best measure we have of how someone will perform in a government office is how that person has already performed when in that office, or in a very similar one. And the best measure we have of the seriousness and good faith of a critic’s claim against a nominee is whether the critic consistently levels similar charges in analogous situations.

On that score, I note the following:

Brett Kavanaugh has been a judge for a dozen years on one of the most important judicial tribunals in the country, the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. In that office, not only has he issued over 300 opinions, which have been broadly admired for their craftsmanship and heavily relied on by the Supreme Court and other federal courts; he has also been widely praised for his judicial temperament by litigants, colleagues, and bar associations. The diverse group of clerks he has mentored has been in high demand for Supreme Court clerkships and other distinguished positions in the legal profession.

His judicial temperament could not be more apparent.”

    1. There you go again with your no longer used, out of date “old white man logic”. What part of ‘by any means necessary” (BAMN) did you not understand?

Senator Flake knew, I repeat, HE KNEW, that opening the door even just a fraction would start an entirely new chain of rumors (Kavenaugh drinking to excess) and innuendo (Kavenaugh lied to Senate Committe about his drinking) and FBI limited in their investigation of allegations about Kavenaugh, all without substance or fact.

Kavenaugh, a hard drinking sexual predator is not fit to be a judge…….. BAMN.

Trump has it exactly right. Always play offense, never give an inch, and hit back hard.

Democrats are despicable….. but I repeat myself in saying that. Oh, and so is Sen. Flake.

  5. Funny: our corrupt media cartel put out polls claiming, in the Quebec election, that the CAQ and the Liberals were running neck and neck at about 32 % apiece. Yet the actual popular vote was CAQ 37 1/2 %, Liberals 25%. Funny how the corporate cartel mislead us like that.

The media emphasized the CAQ’s concern about illegal, poorly-educated immigrants. Left completely ignored by the media cartel was French Quebec’s disgust over corruption within the Liberal government in Quebec. It seems like the media cartel remains part of the corruption problem.

    1. “Funny: our corrupt media cartel put out polls claiming, in the Quebec election, that the CAQ and the Liberals were running neck and neck at about 32 % apiece. ”

Yup, heard that all day yesterday. It’s just the News trying to make their news.

    2. You think Quebecers were “disgusted” by corruption in their government? You think the mafia capital of Canada don’t like bought and paid for politicians?

You are so deluded it is hard to believe.

    1. “Leverage over Canada”….. they always minimize Mexico don’t they. It’s a certain kind of arrogance to minimize Mexico’s interests.

“…… the other two have the right to withdraw from the USMCA with six months’ notice.”

Perfectly reasonable. If any of the 3 parties to the USMCA make a trade agreement with another country and that agreement essentially undermines the spirit and intent of the USMCA why would you not withdraw. Or to put a spin on it, if you can get a better deal, take it but don’t look for support from those being taken advantage of.

“…………the mercurial nature of the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.” But in any case, it’s all Trump’s fault that we’re being victimized.

  6. A rather minor issue, and a tip-off to more media bias moving forward, is how the media cartel will call the new trade agreement. The middle-of-the-road National Post is calling it by its proper title, the USMCA. The left-wing Globe and Mail is still calling it “NAFTA” or “the revised NAFTA”. By the way, the corrupt Globe newspaper is seething mad over the last minute negotiations, given the way Trump was bad-mouthing Justin Trudeau. Out of boredom, I happened onto the moribund paper’s “opinion” section. The editorials and op-eds rail against Trump, full of namecalling and recriminations. The Globe and Mail is now a headwaiter, a mouthpiece, for the Justin Trudeau government. And the establishment paper hates Trump given the way he negotiated the deal.

Anyways, watch out as to how the corporate cartel terms the deal “NAFTA”.

    1. 1. “NAFTA” – no way. Did you mean the old NAFTA or the new NAFTA? Confuses the issue.

      2. “Revised NAFTA” – acceptable but awkward and annoying both immediately and in the long term because it’s too long for the lazy media to repeat in every news brief of 300 words.

      3. “New NAFTA” – Same as #2 but more so.

      4. “NAFTA 1.0” – A nod to software updates but again, awkward and annoying in the long term.

      USMCA will stick.

    2. ‘Gonna stay at the USMCA usmca you can get yourself cleaned you can have a good meal…..blah blah.’
Wait till the Village People get ahold of this one!

    2. If a shootin’ war starts in the USA, I wonder if Canada will allow Left-wing refugees to cross the Border at will,as Justin’s Daddy did with Vietnam war draft dodgers.

On the bright side, it will be the stuff of great country songs like the old Stonewall Jackson tunes from yesteryear. Hollywood,if there’s anyone left there (by which I mean, “remaining”) they can make some dandy flicks about it.

On the dark and depressing side, we might be flooded with the likes of Michael Moore and his ilk who will all get jobs at CBC,”The Michael Moore Show” starring Michael Moore and his co-host, Jim Carrey!

      gag.

  7. I see the new USMCA agreement as an astonishing infrastructural change. Canada has been reduced to irrelevance, while Mexico is the new key partner in the triad. I think that Canadians haven’t realized that the North America of today is tectonically different – that’s a huge structural change – from the original NAFTA era.

This is due, in a basic part, to population size, with Mexico’s 128 million vs Canada’s 34 million. This is an enormous difference. And there’s another difference; Mexico is no longer simply populated by the ‘illiterate, uneducated, unskilled’ of decades ago. There’s a huge and growing middle class – and this new trade agreement acknowledges and empowers them.

But above all, the infrastructural change is due to Canada’s adamant refusal to engage in the two key phases of an economy: Investment and Production. Having one or two manufacturing areas [auto producing using components from elsewhere] isn’t the point.

It’s the refusal- as Indiana Jane pointed out so well on the other thread – by the Liberals and Canadians to acknowledge that Canada is a resource rich nation, – and Canada is not developing these resources. Canada is not, because of its low population, a heavy duty manufacturing nation nor, because of its rejection of individualism – is it a scientific or technology development nation.

Canada ought to be developing what it does have: its vast resources: oil, gas, lumber, water. It ought to be focused on their extraction, on production using these resources, on their export. Instead – it refuses to do so, and focuses instead on the CONSUMER phase of the economy – but since it lacks wealth from resources – it ends up primarily allowing franchised consumer stores from the US to set up their shops in Canadian cities. A huge proportion of our population is employed by the government [media, academics, health, civil service] – and these are the consumer base.

So- there’s nothing to invest in, and no wealth generated from resources – so – what are we – economically? Irrelevant. We need to develop those resources!

And yes, Ch 19 is gone, with that incredible insertion of the Clause where the US gets to oversee side trade deals made by each member of the triad. Heh – how’s that for control of another nation’s economy? That clause was put in primarily to deal with China – and that was necessary because Canada/Justin-Butts refused to deal with China. But – it will affect any and all deals made by Canada. And after all – if you are in a triadic trade agreement, then, you have to ‘work with the gang’ so to speak. But this gang has one boss – and that’s the US. Trump warned everyone that this is the way it would be. He doesn’t play games.

How on earth our media can fawn all over Justin, call him a hero – with a deal like that? As I’ve said – the big winner is the US, and second, Mexico – which is being economically tied to the US, not as a source of cheap, illiterate unskilled labour, but as a robust and expanding middle class manufacturing partner. That is a tectonic change in N. America – and we need to realize this change. Canada has moved to irrelevance, to simply being a consumer of US goods nation.

As for the CAQ win in Quebec – that’s great. Akin to Doug Ford’s win in Ontario. The CAQ is focused on the Quebec economy, not on the Liberal ideology of multiculturalism, and open borders and etc.

    1. ET, that was one of the best posts I’ve read here!

Canadians have been made to feel ashamed of the very resource sectors that account for our only competitive advantage. The institutional left believes in green theology over economic reality and are quite willing to sacrifice thousands of high wage, net taxpaying jobs for any kind of service sector employment (real or imaginary), whose taxes, within this welfare state, don’t pay their freight. Given the largely US funded ENGO activism aimed at stranding Canadian Oil by land-locking it, US protectionism in Lumber, Steel, Aluminum and an agreement that potentially vetoes future trade agreements aimed at diversification away from the US mono-market, Canadian sovereignty and future prosperity looks grim.

  8. Security concern: How does a comment that is not posted and is in fact erased get picked up?? See my post at 9:18 for further details. Someone naming themselves dot as in ” .” seems to have this mysterious power. Perhaps someone more technically literate than I can figure this out.

  14. Chuck Schumer says that Donald Trump should apologize to Ms Ford for comments he made. I would suggest the democrat party apologize to all Americans for dragging this mentally challenged woman from her safe liberal enclave across the country to read a prepared script about an alleged incident that may or may not have happened. The incident cannot be corroborated by any of the witnesses provided by Ms Ford. All this is an effort to stop Trump’s nominee to the supreme court.
