Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

their estimate of 7,000 to 35,000 tons of plastic is so open aka 500% variance that it is laughable and not to be considered scientificately valid.
The science of trivia. It came from the earth, it goes back to the earth.
Where did they expect it to go?
I always suspected the “great garbage patches” were a scam.
Another “it’s worse than we thought” story. Will the alarmists never calm down?
So you have this great patch of plastic waste floating in the middle of the tropical ocean, under a blazing Sun. What degrades plastic? UV light. Where do you get a lot of UV light? Under a blazing tropical Sun. Doh.
I’ve often wondered why all the crows / magpies / ravens gobbling garbage from city streets don’t choke on the cigarette butts. They inspect their food? who knew? (some sarc)..
and,
I recall the importance of knowing which numbers are “significant numbers” and how to determine those limits of measured accuracy. This, and most “environmental studies” fail these tests. Just make it up, get it published, and it becomes a factoid to be cited. Just great, now every journalist is a scientist.
Exactly right.
The best part is that, according to the Econazis, since plastic got top billing as one of the worst things to throw into landfills this new discovery indicates that we should be using the oceans as garbage dumps.
Go ahead and throw that old couch into the ocean there, it’s mostly made out of plastic too and it’ll just disappear.
I discovered my wife is cheating on me. I confronted her with the evidence I had, she eventually broke and admitted to these events. Asking her how many times this had occurred, she replied, “only twice… +/- 500%”
(all sarc).
The plastic’s hiding out with all that missing global warming.
Plastic – organic carbon – gee, moulds and bacteria like organic carbon. As do various invertebrates.
So, just as with heavy oils, something has learned to eat the plastic – with a lot of help from UV light and oxygen
to help with the breakdown.
Concerns about oil spills are largely bogus – bacteria eat them. The treatment for oiled soil is to gather it up, transport
it to an open field, seed with bacterium of choice, and harrow it now and then. The result? High quality topsoil.
Question: is the rotting body of an environmentalist, dead or alive, useful as fertilizer??
Are they good for anything, in other words?
most of these retarded idiots don’t have a klue that UV degrades plastic to the point of gone. Time element is the variable, that’s all.
Ah,, our sainted environmentalists live only on air – pure air. The rest of us live on organic carbon, in one form or
another.
Excuse me while I get myself a ham sandwich. Maybe with cheese.
George Carlin joked that maybe the human race was put on Earth because the Earth wanted plastic – and we were
its best means of getting plastic!
Its my understanding plastic is a petroleum product. As we seen with the BP spill that oil was eaten up by microbes who probably adapted digesting oil spill deep under water. Which I might add are continuous because we can’t cap them under tons of water. It makes sense these same organisms would eat away plastic as well. It may take longer but chomp on it they will.
I also might add that plastic disintegrates on land with in two years. Working for parks & Rec. We always find these bags never whole ,but falling a part on woodland trails. What most people see are new bags along fence lines. Blown there by the wind.
Of course! All that heat that is sulking deep in the ocean because deniers like us refuse to believe in it has melted the plastic to recycle it into a great big monster that will wreak Gaia’s vengeance on us. Soon to be a major Hollywood science fiction, er, I mean documentary blockbuster.
Maybe it was not there but the ideologues wanted it to be.
George Carlin:
“Why are we here?”
“Plastic… Asshole!”

Plastic bags aren’t banned at most retailers, you just have to pay a nickle for them so it’s another money grab.
Wonder what the eco nuts pick up their doggie poo in, reusable cloth bags?
George Carlin had it figured out.
Please believe me when I say that there is, or was, a lot of stuff out there. When I was in the navy we used to toss everything overboard: sullage, Styrofoam, beer cans, cardboard, plastic, etc. Fortunately that practice stopped in the late eighties.
Please believe me when I say that there is a lot of THERE out there.
Yeah, most of the planet is covered in sea water.
So much so that if they took your entire navy( and I don’t care which navy it is, it could even by all the navies and all the shit they have on all the ships in all the navies) and sunk it/them, they couldn’t even find it/them if they didn’t already know where they sunk it/them in the first place, there is that much THERE out there.
However much plastic is out there, it’s a safe bet that virtually none of it is from Canada. Plastic in the central Pacific comes from ocean dumping by tropical countries (especially islands) and from ships in tropical waters.
New law in Metero Vancouver. Anyone throwing a dog crap filled plastic bag in the garbage may be subject to a $30,000 fine. You are supposed to take it home after you scoop it up and empty the poop into the toilet. My solution(and it will prbably be an unintended consequence) is don’t pick it up. Hmmmm.
John; you owe me one half a cup of coffee and a keyboard wipe down. Cheers;
Yeah here’s the link to a video of it straight from George’s mouth……
