The Frontier Centre for Public Policy is hosting a lunch featuring Rev. Harry Lehotsky on June 19th. (Winnipeg)
The Reverend Harry Lehotsky leads an inner-city Winnipeg church called
New Life Ministries, founded in 1983. From its humble beginnings in a west-end home, the church under his leadership grew into a powerful force in its challenged neighbourhood, not only serving its spiritual needs but, through a proactive involvement in community development, becoming its economic and political voice as well. Through his extensive involvement in the church’s social housing program, Harry learned about public sector barriers to development and played a prominent part in his neighbourhood’s calls for improved public safety. Hear how both the public and private sectors can improve their delivery of services in context of high-crime, poverty and despair

Is there not a CANADA-CHINA-MAURICE STRONG connection ? A google on Maurice Strong may explain a lot of world events/organizations/programs/policies, especially Canadian policies. But, in my opinion provides the “answers” to the weird Federal Liberal’s policies of the last 4 decades.

Hmmm, maybe he did listen to the west’s MSM after all…
Re: Captain’s Quarters piece.
Had a friend reply to a important article I sent which only tangentially referred to al-Qaeda and the Brit/Spain atrocities; he made the dismissive statement that “Al Qaeda had “nothing to do with it” and that therefore he didn’t read the rest of the piece due to “the lies” that he usually finds in the first paragraph or two of what I send. I tried to explain that he was correct in the strictest sense of the term, but that AQ is not a hierarchial operation but a loose federation. This AQ version 2.0 is a most interesting observation. Central command and control or NOT, equally deadly.

McGuinty should be turfed out of office. He’s corruptly misusing the taxpayers’ money, by buying land from the developers. The natives are saying they will continue to blockade the area, defying a court order to ‘cease and desist’ until the land is given to them.
So, this is law and order in Ontario? All you have to do to get a prime piece of land, is (1) assert Original Rights – which are unproven and probably can’t be proven; (2) assert discrimination of your Original Identity; and (3) threaten, blockade streets, burn bridges, ignore court orders, and harm police and civilians.
That’s the way to ‘get what you want’ in multicultural Liberal Ontario.\
But what if you are a law-abiding citizen? Then, you get nothing but the bill.
I like this Nealenews link to a CTV story: Taliban leader renounces rebels, thanks Canadians. Great Story! Apparently he had a very “human” discussion with Lt. Col. Ian Hope.
From CTV: “But it was a visit with Canada’s battlegroup commander, Lt. Col. Ian Hope, that convinced him to lay down his arms.
“I did not question him about his connections to the Taliban, not once,” Hope said. “We talked about farming, we talked about chocolate and tea.”
Hope also talked about his own mother’s battle with liver disease; a very human conversation that convinced Ibrahim to change sides.”

One Trevor Baragar, profiled by the MSM as a “Sask. motorist”, phoned the police (RCMP? or the Native Police?). MSM says Baragar was compelled, (compelled by whom?) also, to phone the “Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission”.
What was it that Baragar found inhuman? He was offended by a auto bumper sticker which read “Caution: I stop for all pedestrians, including natives. [but not for Lorne Calvert, The Rev.].
The Human Rights Commissions are , de facto “Sharia Law Courts”.
When the Muslim Islamists see this what must they say? “The infidels have their Sharia Law Courts. The hypocrites wish to deny Muslims of our Sharia Law Courts.”

Unreal. We know have imported violent girl gangs from two of the most violent countries on earth. Diversity necessarily means “worse”:
‘Chick gangs’ on rise: Cops
At least 12 violent Toronto girl gangs, including one whose teen member was busted with a loaded magnum in a Dora the Explorer backpack, are being probed by police, officers say.
Schoolgirls from 13 to 17 are lured by their peers and quick money to join the so-called “chick gangs,” who can be just as violent as the boys, police said.
The girl gangs surfaced this week after a 14-year-old girl was arrested at Thistletown Collegiate with a .44-calibre pistol and two large knives in the backpack. A third knife was found up her sleeve, police said.
The teen is an alleged member of the Killer Squad gang, made up mostly of girls of Jamaican descent, community and police officials said.
She and about 60 others were fighting a rival Somali group when police were called.

I’m thinking, Jema54, my family being Ontarians, that my daughter should head West to look for work. She just graduated this week Summa Cum Laude (“with high distinction”: Geesh, they don’t even use the Latin anymore and this was a UNIVERSITY Convocation, for crying out loud) and I’m not sure sticking around in Toronto is the greatest idea.
Anyone have any bright ideas for a bright 23-year-old (English/History Major) who is extremely articulate, who can write well, and, even more important, who can THINK?
I’m sorry, new kid, I can’t resist…
Here’s a bright idea for your daughter…send her back to University to learn something useful!
Just kidding!
I’ve found that education can only do so much for a person. What really counts is a positive attitude, an ability to learn from mistakes and the ability to think through a problem (or possessing common sense). If she can think, she can make her way through life. She should find something she enjoys and MAKE it work for her.
new kid…Where moving cross country is exciting indeed,I recomend she consider staying close to family and friends. For ultimately,THAT is what’s most important in life!…Just my 1 1/2 cents worth.
Re Caledonia: Ask just about any teacher (though most will be afraid to speak out) and they’ll confirm that one of the main strategies used with the most egregious kids and their (usually equally difficult) parents is appeasement. Do the PC morons at the ministries and boards and their enforcers in the schools’ front offices, who are running the system (into the ground), care that such a strategy is both ineffective and dangerous to the physical safety and moral health of all of us? Not on your life.
“He Has the GALton McDinty” (sorry!) is cut out of the same cloth as the impostors in the education (sic) system: none of them has seen a minority or disadvantaged group they aren’t willing to cave to. IMO, that’s the basest kind of discrimination. I teach a number of disadvantaged kids: I hold them to the same high standards that I require of ALL my students. Many of them reach WAY higher:-) (That’s one of the few perqs left for teachers in the public cess . . . whoops! I mean systems of this country.) You want equality? I provide it. (Thanks or recognition from the authorities? You’ve got to be kidding!) Letting these kids off the hook means double discrimination: first they’ve often been let down by their sometimes altogether inadequate families; then the PC policies of the boards let them–and everyone else, BTW–down again. It’s an utter scandal.
So what do many teachers do? As much as possible–difficult if the parents are non-supportive–we deal with our students’ problems on our own. Involving the office very often puts the teacher, not the student or his/her family, on the hot seat. The problem is then redefined as “What MORE does the TEACHER have to do?” I avoid such scenarios like the plague.
So, the worst elements learn how to abuse the system, aided and abetted BY the system, while the responsible adults, who are trying to hold the shirkers, n’er do wells and bullies to account are humiliated, their attempts to give students effective consequences shoved aside, and then they are doubly humiliated by being asked to do more–usually PC crap that no self-respecting teacher would touch with a 100 foot pole–to “help” the student. (Then, generally, the cycle repeats, with the teacher being held to a higher–read lower–standard each time.) What lesson does that teach everyone involved? That, if you’re NOT the teacher, being irresponsible pays off.
If the kids were bigger and had access to weapons and vehicles, the schools of this country would be as dangerous as Caledonia. (The ministry and board bureaucrats would play the part of the Ontario Liberal government and the OPP.) Believe me, a lot of Canadian public schools are spawning the next generation of non-Native “Mohawk Warriors”.
Things are bad out here, guys and gals. In general, I DO NOT see light at the end of this tunnel: only . . . well, Creedence Clearwater says it very well in “Bad Moon Rising”:
I see the bad moon rising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightnin’.
I see bad times today.
Chorus:
Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad moon on the rise.
I hear hurricanes ablowing.
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers overflowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.
Chorus
All right!
Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.

Absolutely correct! A career in the military can be not only satisfying and exciting but also offers a type of character-building that can’t be duplicated anwhere else. I did my 28 years in the military (Air Force) and I’d do it again in a heartbeat if given the chance.

Thanks maz2 – that’s exactly what is happening now. Extortion carried out by means of open breaking of laws, destruction of private and public property and spurious threats of accusations of ‘racism, bigotry’ if you don’t give in to the extortion. That’s ‘Native Rights in Canada’.
This is a quote within a quote–from one of Mark Steyn’s McLean’s columns–by the estimable Melanie Phillips, a British journalist and author of Londonistan, her latest book. Her words here exactly parallel what I was saying about the appeasement mentality that’s going to be the end of Western civilization if we don’t smarten up some day very soon:
“‘Minority-rights doctrine,’ writes Melanie Phillips in her new book Londonistan, ‘has produced a moral inversion, in which those doing wrong are excused if they belong to a ‘victim’ group, while those at the receiving end of their behaviour are blamed simply because they belong to the ‘oppressive’ majority.’ If you want to appreciate the forces at play among Western Muslims [and Native thugs] in societies enervated by multiculturalism, Londonistan is an indispensable read. ‘It is impossible to overstate the importance — not just to Britain but to the global struggle against Islamist extremism [and, in North America, Native supremacy]– of properly understanding and publicly challenging this moral, intellectual and philosophical inversion, which translates aggressor into victim and vice versa.'”
The National Post just ran an article of hers in Friday’s edition, “Multiculturalism vs Jihad: The Country That Hates Itself”. Great stuff.
If there’s any conservative type here who doesn’t know the writings of Melanie Phillips, she’s a must-read. Google her: She’s got a great web site.

hmmmmm – the bright young girl in Ontario seeking a nice occupation.
There was no mention of French so probably scratch anything to do with employmnet within any Government offices, civil service, military, RCMP, IRB, ad infinitum (probably even the municipal offices in Ottawa by now as well). These are some of the most likely employers of an English Major.
There was no mention of Spanish or any other 2nd language nor a teacher’s certificte. Probably have to scratch this opportunity as well or give up another two years to gain a teaching certificate. However if she is not Catholic and able to be hired by either the Separate or the Public School system – you might want to weigh the opportunity cost to do this. Teachers with English and Social Studies backgrounds are in very high supply these days but with little opportunity.
Probably the best bet is to pick up Spanish or some other language if there is no French background. Or to go foreign and teach English as a second language. Isn’t it so sad that in Canada we have such few opportunites for a bright, young, English major.
You see – English major’s really don’t have a whole lot of opportunities these days because English is not particularly valued. Perhaps enough parents are going to get the message and try to level the landscape.
Don’t be looking to hard at Alberta these days – the “leading” contender for the Alberta premiership said on an open line program recently that he had no idea what Law S-3 is. And the beat goes on!!!!
new kid on the block:
They can’t fill the jobs in Alberta. So!
Send her to Fort MacMurry Alberta. After 5 years of hellish winters. She can walk out a millionaire.
With a history degree she should apply for Intelligence or police work. Perhaps a diplomatic posting. After an internship. Maybe with the present government.?
Teaching is always an option as well. In Alberta we have charter & Private schools a begging for people like her. Not to mention the many colleges & Universities here. Most private as well.
From an excellent article by George Jonas on the consequences of Trudeau’s drive to establish multiculturalism in Canada (in this weekend’s National Post and found on Dr. Roy’s Thoughts blog):
“Trudeau’s ambitious, unannounced, possibly unexamined and merely intuitive design would, within two or three generations, take Canada out of the ambit of Christendom altogether and establish it as an advance pawn of the Third World in the Western Hemisphere.”
Canada: “an advance pawn of the Third World in the Western Hemisphere”… Anybody else getting the feeling that we’ll soon have bars on our windows and barbed wire on the walls we’re going to be building around our backyards?
The London Free Press reported yesterday that car theft in London was up 49% from last year. Given that have-not “victims” feel entitled to whatever you or I have worked hard and saved for, increasing personal security is not an empty conceit. Even though our house had bars on its windows and we had barbed wire on the wall around our (tiny) backyard when we were living in a Caribbean port city, our house was robbed and our car was vandalized a number of times (‘no such thing as locked car doors; thieves could open a locked door in no time, and in broad daylight).
Now that radical Native groups in Canada can flaunt our laws and intimidate their opponents through armed and violent uprisings, with our limp-wristed, no-guts politicians (aka Duh-lton McGuilty) backing down and giving them whatever they want, it’s sure feeling a lot less like the Canada I used to know and a lot more like a tin-pot Banana Republic.
Canada: “an advance pawn of the Third World in the Western Hemisphere”…
Not a hyperbole.
PS–Thanks, all, for great suggestions for my daughter…

In this book, an American historian finds fault with the values and beliefs of America’s professional elites.

Current human rights issues on which CUPE Ontario has not called for a boycott
Excerpt from an ad in the Financial Post from the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center For Holocaust Studies.
Current human rights issue on which CUPE Ontario has called for a boycott:
The building of an anti-terror security fence by Israel.
Current human rights issues on which CUPE Ontario has not called for a boycott:
– Genocide of Muslims in Darfur, Sudan.
– Attacks on Christians, unlawful detainment and torture in Pakistan.
– Denial of women’s rights violations in Saudi Arabia.
– Gross human rights violations in Chechnya.
– Genocidal threats by Iran against the Jewish state.
– State-assisted famine and government-run gulags in North Korea.
– Occupation of Tibet, executions, unlawful imprisonment, torture, and “re-education through labour” of dissidents by China.
– Systemic violation of women’s rights in Afghanistan.
– Unlawful arrest, torture, and mistreatment of ethnic and religious minorities in Iran.
– Arbitrary detainment, torture, and disappearances in Myanmar.
– Demolition of communities by the government of Zimbabwe.
– Killing of civilians in Sri Lanka.
– The anti-Semitic Hamas charter of The Palestinian Authority.
– Arbitrary detention in Belarus.
– Incommunicado imprisonment of political prisoners in Tunisia.
– Mass rapes and killings by troops in Sierra Leone.
– Public executions in Somalia.
– Torture and displacement in Uganda.
– Unlawful imprisonment of dissidents in Cuba.
– Torture and ill-treatment by security forces in Venezuela.
– Abuse of juvenile detainees in Brazil.
– Millions of people killed in the Congo.
– State supported international terrorism.
We have just one question. Why only Israel?
With so many issues to choose from, why has CUPE Ontario joined the chorus in singling out Israel for building a fence that protects its Jewish, Muslim, and Christian citizens from terrorist attacks?

Nepal like other places [East Timor], has problems to contend with. This writer tends to show remarkable wisdom, [ from his Indian heritage?], on how to approach things.
========
Many solutions have been suggested, ranging from direct intervention by India in Nepalese domestic affairs to an outright takeover of a shaky, fragile constitutional monarchy, none of which seem too conclusive.
Let us look a little deeper into the Maoist factor. In the recent years the Maoists have gained tremendous support, especially in rural Nepal and like the Maoists in our own country [India], they too have been marginalized by the government and in Nepal’s case by the beloved King.
This has provoked the Maoists to take up arms as a part of their struggle against the establishment. And therein lies the problem. Maoists are quick to take to guns because it is somewhat part of their ideology. But violence only begets violence and the Maoists know it too.

PUSHING FOR ARMAGEDDON – Inside Iran’s New Power Struggle N.Y. Post Amir Taheri June 16, 2006 -excerpt- The theological division among Shi’ites concerns a simple question: What should believers do while the Imam is absent? One doctrine, known as Intizar (waiting) maintains that the best that believers can do is to be patient and wait until the Imam decides to return. Followers of that doctrine are known as Muntazeris (Those Who Wait). That doctrine is opposed by another known as Ta’ajil (To hasten). Its adepts believe that believers should act to hasten the coming of the Mahdi. The Ta’ajilis (Hasteners)…

Based on the facts as I see them, the American people are about to get arguably the rudest awakening in the last one hundred years. The middle class will vanish, our social programs will fall into insolvency, and a select few people will make a hell of a lot of money at the expense of the rest of us. Imagine the arrogance necessary for one to believe he’s justified in wrecking three vibrant cultures – the US, Canada and Mexico – just to make his financial bottom line more attractive. Hitler, as twisted and evil as he was, sincerely believed…

On Stephen Taylor’s blog yesterday, “Stephen Taylor – Conservative Party of Canada Pundit,” he was critical of the CBC, because whereas they were airing live LPC Leadership debates, they did not do the same for the CPC when it was holding its leadership debate in 2004.
Robert McClelland weighed in:
“You really have no shame, do you liar? The CBC isn’t giving live coverage to every Liberal leadership debate and they didn’t deny giving live coverage to every Conservative leadership debate back in 2004.”
Stephen Taylor, as is his wont, gave a very polite and thorough explanation of his complaint, to which Mr. McClelland very ungraciously responded:
“You’ll find this about a third of the way down the page.

“The debate was broadcast on CBC Newsworld’s show Politics.
“I await your mea culpa.”
Later the same day, eastern capitalist wrote:
“Robert,
“Don wanted them on his show…it was not a party debate that was covered…which is Stephen’s point….”
I also pointed out that it was unlikely that CBC’s Politics would air a live CPC Leadership debate, and then Stephen Taylor gave a play-by-play description of how Tony Clement and Stephen Harper had ended up on Don Newman’s show at Newman’s invitation and further pointed out that “In the case of the Don Newman show, CBC manufactured the event.”
After all of Taylor’s polite and thorough responses to Robert McClelland, my comments, and those of eastern capitalist, still no “mea culpa” to Stephen Taylor from R. McClelland. In fact, he’s nowehere to be found. So, I couldn’t help posting:
“So, where’s Bob McClelland? I think I see a door closing and the flash of a pink shoe…”
Who is holding back my electric car?
The electric car that I should be able to buy at reasonable cost is no challenge to produce with today*s technology.
The car has two banks of light weight battery on either side of the centered motor under the front hood.
The roof mounted high output solar panels charge the battery opposite the battery under drain.
There could be a small propane bottle fueled motor for emergency side of the road battery refresh, but efficiency advances would soon make that requirement obsolete.
