  1. From the NYT article:
“How far does $375,000 a year go in New York City?
“Strip out estimated income taxes ($7,500 a month), domestic support ($10,517), insurance ($2,311), a mandatory contribution to his retirement plan ($5,900), and routine expenses for rent ($2,460 a month) transportation ($550) and food ($650) and Mr. Owens estimated that he was running a small monthly deficit of $52, according to his bankruptcy petition.”
“He has gone back to court to get some relief from his divorce settlement, so far without any success.”
$10,517 per month in domestic support? $5,900 per month for a pension? Oy.

  2. The hyena motif is most appropriate – braying socialist scum all ganging up to drag a wealthy man down. Even the slobs at the New Yawk Slimes are getting their pound of flesh off the carcass.
In that boat, I would change careers. I would pull my $800.00 out of the bank, buy a set of Carhartt’s and a mickey mouse watch – and blow the rest on booze, bologna, beans and mustard! I would work part time pushing a broom, sleeping outdoors – and watching my parasites starve.
    Trailers for sale or rent!
Rooms to let for 50 cents!
I smoke old stogies I have found,
Short, but not to big around…

  3. … and who wouldn’t want their publicly available information of their financial downfall paraded by the conscience of america to all those who wonder why? (did the lawyer in question vote Republican?)
No doubt the Times will follow through with a thorough investigation upon Harry Reid’s millions.
    or B. Hussien’s school records.
or all those dead people in the Clinton’s past.
or what was on the White House telly, 9/11 2012
There seems to be selection of under reported news threads they could cover.
If for example, they wanted to print all the news that fits.

  4. This is not land of Israel. This is land of Canada and can artist mind reading of 3 judges appeal court income salary come from big bank by eatiing poor right of living. This is not title fraud changes of people land from hand of poor with no robin hood live close by. This is not cold blooded group living to put down people. But big land no place to live and no saftey and security. Who can live with ontario work amount for shelter cost. I am noy talking td bank and home trust and intact home insurance lawyers bank ! Sorry land title rubbery! By court order. We live among crazy danger people. Lol

  5. My understanding of how hyenas begin life is that they’re typically born as twins, with the more dominate one killing and chowing down the other. Sadly, the Times doesn’t attack its own, nor chow it down its fellow progressives.
Duranty’s Pulitzer Prize is still on the mantle?

  6. Perhaps the fellow should have studied some more arithmetic to go with his law.
    375,000/12 = $31,250 per month. Let’s add in the expenses: $10,517+5,900+2,460+2,311+550+650+7,500 = 29,888
That leaves a surplus of $1,362 in my book, and he has rent, food, transportation, taxes, and health insurance paid AND he’s socking away $70k per year in savings. Five or six years ago, I was living on a gross income of $1,500 per month. What’s his problem?
I suspect booze, blow, and strip clubs were conveniently left out of the equation..

  7. 1. Pretty sure the NYT left some stuff out – the court would indeed check the math. But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t have padded the numbers elsewhere.
    2. Don’t know where you reside, but in the Big Apple, 1.2 k per month ain’t gonna buy a lot of hookers and blow. Just sayin’. Beer, maybe. (I like beer.) (Actually, 1.2 k ain’t gonna buy you a lot of hookers and blow anywhere, really.)
    3. Still, living on 1.5 k per month is possible, I agree (in fact, seniors on OAS/GIS are living on less).
    4. But I’d still say “screw this,” and get the hell out of the profession.

  8. Your money doesn’t buy much in NYC.
    Or Toronto.
Next time you hit a Starbucks in Mississauga/Oakville, ask the counter girl where she lives. I bet she says Brantford, Kitchener, Hamilton, maybe even Dunville or Niagara Falls. Those are places where you can still buy a crappy little house for -only- $200k.
People are driving an hour or more to get to a rotten job slinging coffee or flipping burgers for $12-$14/hr because they can’t possibly afford to live near where they work. People working for >$300k are driving an hour or more into downtown Toronto because they can’t afford to live near where they work either.
Doctors can’t really afford Toronto anymore. Right? Because they make ~$200k, give or take.
Don’t forget that total taxes amount to roughly half your annual income.
What I want to know is, who the hell are all these maniacs in Toronto living in two, three, ten million dollar houses, and what on earth do they do for a living?
As to Kathy’s very well taken point about the jackals of the NY Slimes randomly targeting some poor guy… the NY Slimes boys have to pay the same freight as the broke lawyer guy. Biggest jackal gets the best bites.
