Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA
"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
WTF is with all the yelling in the background?!!?
Wish they would stop with the “middle of the office floor” type interviews. Install some glass walls or something if they want that sort of scenery. At least invest in one of those “ON AIR” illuminated signs! (rant over)
sorry, just had to vent
No more point of sale adjustments. Higher payments from AgriInvest which replaced the NISA Program. Buy Riddles noodles.
Love the shout-out to SDA at the 5:00 mark!
In the context of the history of this country, what is the salient point of the interview, Chris (1:16)? Your displeasure at background studio noise?
Come on, Chris. Seriously, take a pill.
Ritz was impressive. If you read – or hear – just barely between the lines, this government is absolutely committed to dismantling the single desk in relatively short order; he’s onside, and simply indicated that it’s going to take a few – ten or fifteen months – to coordinate the changes.
This new government has issued surprisingly swift pronouncements on issues that people here at SDA have been up in arms about for years — incandescent light bulbs, the carbon tax, and the Wheat Board, for example – yet commenters (in other threads) have been bitterly whining about about how this recently-elected government isn’t doing enough fast enough. Parliament hasn’t even *sat* yet, and we’re complaining about things like background *studio noise*.
Some of us need to take a look at ourselves to figure out what’s actually motivating our outrage.
Seriously.
Have waited for this for years will be FREE at last. Get it done
“Come on, Chris. Seriously, take a pill. ”
yeah I know, carpal tunnel acting up badly and I’m on lots of pills.. very cranky tonight.
This is a very significant & historical event.
Thank you EBD for putting this and other news in perspective.
Way to go Kate for your decision to take action and creating this potent forum.
Thanks everyone for all for your contributions.
A great victory over the suppression of freedom.
This proves, yet again, SDA gets results!
To give Mr. Ritz credit that is due; I have heard him give some fantastic rants in the HOC against the regionally biased, Marxist CWB. Gerry’s heart is in this pleasant job – dehorning and neutering the CWB – after he audits the books. I noted the smile on Gerry’s face. Proceed, Mr. Ritz.
I didn’t mean it personally, Chris. I was really reacting to the reflexive complaint-culture evident on other threads, and I dumped it unfairly on your head.
The USA grain tickets I saw in the day before the seizing and arresting and jailing started were 1 to 2 grades higher with around a $45.00 fee and an estimated 20% higher. Never did find out what happened to the claim being started against Goodale (at Farmers for Justice site at the time) for back dated law. Also you will find maybe 7 years of records to audit, if you are lucky.
Hey to all the 34 Liberals huddled in Atlantic Canada and the cockroach and bedbug infested core in Downtown Hogtown. How’s that, “SCREW THE WEST, WE’LL TAKE THE REST WORKING OUT FOR YAH” HEH heh hhehehe.
Growers et al should also give a bit of credit to the Canadian chamber of commerce which has had a policy supporting marketing choice now for about ten years. The last time choice was attempted and announced (the barley referendum) the AG minister made the public announcement at the chamber that wrote that resolution – Red Deer. (it passed in every province except one btw – manitoba (Winnipeg – the CWB hq) voted against.
Ezra plugs SDA, nice.
yes yes YES.
Finally free enterprise and property rights start to step forward,
Over the last several years the CWB has cost the Western Canadian economy at least one billion dollars a year. This last year it has cost the economy over 2 1/2 billion. This year 2010/11 it has cost my farm $250,000 which could have been gained from the open market rather than dealing with the CWB.
Finally it will be gone.
Did anyone else hear the rumour that the wheat board lowered the price of wheat on the days the farmers around Portage had to empty their grain bins over the act of government flood?
The short of it: deregulate, deregulate, deregulate. Get government fingers out of the economic pies.
The one question that Ritz wasn’t asked, but I’d certainly like to hear the answer,”why was the West singled out for sales only through the CWB,and the Ontario/Quebec producers NOT forced to join the CWB”?
Regional discrimination, the typical Upper/Lower Canada treatment of the rest of the Country?
Liberal politics,bribed by whom?
There would be nothing wrong with dual desk selling, if the farmer in Peace country did not have the aability to haul grain to where ever, they need a point of sales, but here in the south any farmer who owns a B train and a truck should have the RIGHT to haul their grain to Shelby/Minot or where ever they can get the best price. The fact that Ont Que farmers can do that should have brought on a Human Rights complaint years ago farmers. Throw the ball into the lefties court, your rights are being violated, say your a gay aboriginal farmer, hooked on heroin, thinking of a sex change and you need the extra monies for accomadations while the taxpayers are picking up the surgical bills. Works for others, some farmer has to “nut” up and do this.
I’m waiting for unemployed X HRC types to show up begging on Young street in Hog town:-)))
This is really good news. Good for Gerry Ritz for getting right on this file.
Mineapolis futures on spring wheat were a little over $10 yesterday and trading around $9.87 this morning.
Maybe I can negotiate for more per acre rent for next year. 😉
The CWB is one of the most egregious violations of personal commercial freedom in Canada.
Congratulations Kate.
You are a true champion of liberty and democracy.
ChrisinMB, get one of these, your wrist will feel better.

This was a cure for my wife’s carpal tunnel syndrome.
I hope agricultural marketing boards are next.
Hey to all the couple of Liberals left standing in your cockroach infested nests in Hogtown, how is that “Screw The West, We’ll Take The Rest Working Out For Ya Now”……
I’m quite happy the way the wheat board is now going. It looked like Gerry gave a hint of reconition as well when SDA was mentioned.
As to background noise I didn’t notice is so much this time but i think it was on the Caldwell Account they had a full out yelling argument in the background as an interview was conducted. That was a bit distracting. Having office white noise at reasonable level might actually be serendipitous – u just ain’t going to get that on CBC or them other snooty channels….
But i liked it for sure when the hot blonde walked by – they need to do that more often.
Love it.
First the SK “Landbank” fell, now the Wheat Board = can the Egg and then the Milk Board be far behind?
EBD @ 1.58 am
I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by the speed with which the new majority government is implementing these conservative policies you highlight.
I only hope we see the same speed on downsizing the government footprint.
The CWB is one of the most egregious violations of personal commercial freedom in Canada.
No, that would be cradle to grave subsidization of freeloading farmers, hypocrites.
I re-say, give MP Bev Oda a ruler and a black pen and make the changes in the existing legislation by inserting “may”. Simple, quick, all done.
The freedom to sell to whoever and wherever you want can’t come soon enough for western grain producers as far as I’m concerned. This has been an issue that has kept us divided way, way to long in this country.
What’s in it for you? some may wonder…just watching the veins bulge in Easter’s forehead is enough for me.
I re-say, give MP Bev Oda a ruler and a black pen and make the changes in the existing legislation by inserting “may”. Simple, quick, all done.
Guess what
Guess What, What is it about the word “NO” that you and all Marxists don’t understand?
Good on PMH… The harassment of Bev Oda has more than a hint of evil odor. Amnesty International all bent out of shape…so sorry. Martin (NDP) must take his orders from Foreign NGO’s
Canada just needs to re-define treason! Hanging from the Tower Bridge was a spectator sport…Watching Sea Gulls eat the bastard was such fun!

As a side note, when the government donates my tax money, could I get a donation receipt. Please.
Ritz was impressive. He said the CWB will stay for those farmers who want it so how many civil servants are going to go? Does the “profit” of the CWB cover all the expenses of the clerks?
I notice at around 3:00 he mentions getting screwed over for the war effort is ancient history. Is that because he doesn’t want to admit government fault and subsequent legal/financial responsibility for damages for the last 70 odd years?
While I am happy the CWB will be optional in the future I am curious about compensation for the lost money of the last 70 years of confiscation from myself and my family?
I am curious about compensation for the lost money of the last 70 years of confiscation from myself and my family?
Not curious about all the swill you and your family have slurped from the trough, lo these 70 odd years, welfare bum?
Sure you wanna go there, freeloader?
Phil; Are you yipping again? I thought that I told you to BUY a farm, get in on the gravy train. The scum like you that eat cheap food and then complain about subsidies better wise up.Next time you post make damned sure that you have bought a farm first,if not then keep sponging off your old age pension collecting mother.
Spike, I guess I’ve got too much self-respect to get on the gravy train and forever leech off of the hard work of my fellow citizens. I’d sooner go out to the barn and string up a rope than live with that shame and hypocrisy.
