  5. All this is getting sorta shaky. It seems like the implacable alarmist CO2 movement.
    Indeed the AGW phenomina has cast a bright light on not just the peer revue process. It has likely somewhat impared the credibility of genuine medical research. How do we sort the politicized junk science from genuine research?
    The foolish emphasis and obvious exageration of “second hand smoke” has called the entire matter of smoking being dangerous….to me at least.
    When I flipantly remark that I fear quitting smoking will expose me to second hand smoke….who can reliably not award merit to the notion?……unless your name is Whoopi or Joy.

  6. Hat’s-off the the group ‘Gays of African Decent’ for speaking truth to this matter; that takes some guts. This group has clearly seen the damage that homosexual behavior has caused in the black community, especially for unsuspecting women who’s husbands are on the Down Low(DL)(see link below). You know the situation is serious in the black community when one of the official Progressive lobbies supports a message contrary to the typical Leftist talking points. Like I said, kudos to them. What’s disgusting, in my view, is how the rest of the official gay lobby is more concerned about the IMAGE projected when the TRUTH about the relationship between homosexuality and HIV is exposed; or should I say, not hidden.
    This is just another example of Progressive advocates playing politics at the expense of those they claim to advocate for.

    Uh, no, I think the fact that smoking cigs is disgustingly dangerous and unhealthy was enough. Second hand smoke is CLEARLY just as dangerous (its the same smoke), and thank christ we’ve implemented stricter ‘no-smoking’ regulations.
    I applaud both attempts to display REALITY in full view. The tobacco lobby will always attempt to divert the issue, and will always try to do so through government bribery.

  11. I think a nice before/after of a guy with Kaposi’s sarcoma on the front door of every bath house would be wonderful. The bone and muscle wasting that goes with it makes for a great A/B comparison, then there’s the lovely skin discolouration…

    PLEASE! For the love of god, GO ON!!! Empty statements are worthless, so continue, explain why the CONTENT of second hand smoke is different from first hand smoke. Explain how sitting in a room full of second hand smoke, and inhaling a cigarette’s worth of it, is less dangerous than just inhaling a cigarette’s worth of smoke first hand.

    WRONG! Hydrogen Cyanide is a poison PERIOD. It may have no effect at EXTREMELY low doses, but anything above that will be damaging. And one can easily be exposed to enough second hand smoke to equal smoking a cigarette.

  19. EXTREMELY LOW DOSES…cigarettes have enough hydrogen cyanide in them that it’s listed on the box. That is NOT extremely low a dose. Extremely low refers to such minute amounts that only a lab investigating chemicals at a molecular level will trace them.

These are only the diseases they are allowed to talk about, just get your hands on any of the “banned books” like Dr. Lorraine Days, head of orthopedic surgery at San Fran General wrote 16 or so years ago and get your eyes opened. There are lots of other “banned books: on this subject, but then this disease and the lifestyle has always been protected by the progressives and polititians like slimey Henry Waxman, check this dirt bags bio.

  25. Again, I understand the concept of dosage! What I’ve failed to see you prove is that the chemicals in cig smoke fall well below the dosage required to cause damage when in 2nd hand form/amounts.
    It is not hard to imagine someone inhaling a cigarette worth of smoke, second hand, by sitting in a room full of smokers.
    Does this imply that you’re against smoking regulations? That you’re perfectly fine smoking in such places as airplanes, public buildings, restaurants, etc?

  26. Sorry BTJ but the others have outed you. The second hand smoke myth is right up there with the global warming myth. Several years ago the World Health Organisation published their findings based on extensive research proving this. However the findings were ignored by the anti-smoking zealots and by the same token ignored by our MSM.
    In a free society property owners would have the right to decide if they wish to allow smoking, not government authorities. The irony remains that sex between men is a health hazard, but one is not allowed to state this fact. Our “health authorities” are more concerned about being PC than stating the truth. So in a society ruled by PC smoking is out and gay sex is in.
    As for your support of anti-smoking regulations, I repeat it should be the owners who decide. If an airline finds it makes more money allowing smoking, then so be it and the same goes for bars, restaurants. Of the anti-smoking zealots will have none of this, even to the point of pushing to ban smoking in parks and all outside areas.

  29. I quit smoking about 9 years ago, after smoking for over 25, so I have a handle on how hard it is to quit, and stay off nicotine.
    Here is my rant.
    I don’t mind fools that want to fall off mountains, or jump out of perfectly serviceable aircraft, or sail the seven seas, or make an expedition to the north pole, or race overpowered cars and motorcycles, or fall off skateboards, or off their mountain bike, etc…. for kicks.
    But I really hate having to pay for their medical treatment (and maybe their rescue) after they bugger it up. Maybe we should restrict them from doing such dangerous stuff, it would be both cheaper and, well, in their best interests, heck in this day and age, you could sell it as the “green” option.
    Hey, how about we tax pop, chips, chocolate bars and ice cream at the same rate per gram/ml that we currently tax cigarettes and alcohol? Increasing obesity is a major problem after all, obesity rates are many times higher than alcohol addiction rates, and climbing. Think of the thinner population, the lower long term health care costs, the better teeth….
    Hey, maybe we weigh everyone once a year, then tax them based on their (and their families) BMI? I mean we already know that those who exceed the 30 and are under 18 are at risk for long term health issues, may as well make them pay their fair share for their lifestyle too.
    Hey, maybe an annual physical fitness test is the right answer? Fitter = better for society overall right?
    Well, how about making folks show up to work out 3 times a week for an hour. I mean, so we know they are looking after themselves, after all, it’s our tax money, but the real reason is…
    IT’S FOR THEIR OWN GOOD.

  30. Certainly hydrogen cyanide is a deadly poison. But I don’t recall ever hearing of a smoker dying from cyanide poisoning. That would indicate that there’s not enough of it in cigarettes to worry about.

    More than 600 000 death per year worldwide are caused by second-hand smoke (SHS) – this is more than 1% of all deaths. 165 000 of these deaths are among children.
