  1. Ya, but if it took over 33 years to get out of the driveway, we still have some time before it leaves the hood.
Who knows … before the aliens find it we (Richard Branson Virgin Air) may have developed enough technology to go quickly and pick it up.
We may yet be able to cancel that invitation.

  2. The progressive viewpoint is that anyone with an advanced intelligence must be benevolent.
The rest of us know freakin’ better.

  3. So tell me again how sending nude pictures of yourself to nowhere in hope that someone smarter than you will find it is a sign of intelligence?

  4. Joe:
Good point. We’re polluting the cosmos with space porn.
And not particularly good porn at that.

  5. So tell me again how sending nude pictures of yourself to nowhere in hope that someone smarter than you will find it is a sign of intelligence?
It’s why they invented the internet, dude.

  6. Joe, don’t tell me that as a kid you didn’t put a note in a bottle and toss it in a lake or river and imagine it showing up in some far and distant land. (Tossing stuff into a Saskatchewan slough doesn’t count)
The hieroglyphics about us assumes that alien life doesn’t have tri-corders to determine the origin of the primitive technological space flotsam. Nanu nanu, eh.

  7. other dwellers in the cosmos will have civil war, currency, scientists, artists, government and a bent for conquest. sound familiar?
they will be so far advanced that they will pick up the radio signals before a metal artifact; if they find anything of interest they will pay a visit because they will know how to breech the constraints of gravity and the speed of light (there is a link). it can be done.
the laws of economics will have as much to bear on the decision as any technical issues.
they ain’t gonna be E.T. and they ain’t gonna be Predator. if they had been here already it would be common knowledge.
the distances involved are, uhh, ooooohhh my.

  8. All arguments aside about intelligent life finding our message to the cosmos aside (I defer to Douglas Adams’ explanation of how big space is to give an idea how unlikely that is..), you have to admire the quality of the build for the Voyager spacecraft.
Still working, after all this time. Sure, I imagine the engineers at NASA would have had to conjure up some software fixes and such over all this time, but it’s a testament to the engineering at the time that it’s still going.
Do you think that anything launched today would still be working after all this time? After all, the technology is better…right? /facepalm
It’s unfortunate that while the technology may be ‘better’, it’s all plagued by quality issues.

  9. We already have an alien invasion that ultimately want to destroy us … they are called The Muslims.

  10. No worries about the whole “come git me” thing Kate.
Anything intelligent enough to make it here from another planet will take one look at CBC, CTV, BBC, MSNBC, PBS, NPR etc etc broadcasts and say screw it, don’t need that headache.

  11. If “they” can make it across the galaxies, what makes us think they can’t “dress up” and walk among us? Perhaps learn to play football, or mate?
I don’t know if “they” are here yet. But I’m as certain as one can be of these things, that they’re out there, somewhere.

  12. Wait, alien invasion and Davenport -doesn’t- want a gun? Davenport, you must be a liberal.
On the bright side, if there’s somebody out there that can find teeny weeny Voyager in the titanic nothingness, they’ve been here already and got bored.

  13. And you, Phantom, must have missed the part where Kate correctly pointed out that extraterrestrial life, should it come at all, has a good chance of coming in microbial form.
Unless you plan on shooting the invading alien micro-organisms to death, the best use for that firearm might be to put yourself out of your own fear-soaked misery.

  14. (Tossing stuff into a Saskatchewan slough doesn’t count)
Good thing I’m from Alberta then eh wot? Besides I kept Alberta green! I threw all my garbage in British Columbia.

In America they are called The Democrats, and they support the Muslims.
I don’t know Davenport, seems the Big Cities have always had High Crime Rates. Doesn’t matter what gangs are in power be it the Russians, the Mexicans, the Italians, the Haitians, the Blacks, or soon to be the Muslims.
Besides, the US Constitution gave us the right to bear arms. Our Fore-Fathers knew we might need those arms to keep our Politicians in check. Why do you think the Democrats are vehemently trying to take our arms away. But, having arms, and being able to protect yourself is just icing on the cake. Of course, I can only speak for the rural south. And, if you will notice most of the Big Cities with High Crime Rates are under Democrat control. Bloomberg is a RINO, he don’t count.
Now, if the microbes do come, hopefully GrandMaw has a recipe for them.

  16. Davenport, I’d like to clue you into something. A bunch of us are getting off this waste of space rock and into a new reality. It’s all on the hush-hush for now, but you can signup at phone-sanitizers@example.com.
    See you there soon!

  17. Davenport – spot on, shooting microbes is tricky; this is why we need to stock up on nukes.

  18. Now, as far as aliens coming here and trying to invade the place, that gets to be an interesting thing.
Aliens arriving in even a small fleet with a million individuals on board are at the far end of the longest supply train ever. Even if they have the super smokin’ technology they can’t afford to duke it out with the locals. They have to make the locals kill each other.
A cultural meme would make an excellent weapon under such circumstances. In the last few hundred years the meme which has got the most people killed in Communism.
So I think they’ve been here and done their worst. They must have got bored with it and left in the 1980’s.

  19. If they’re still here I suppose possibly they gave up on the Russians and just took over the DemocRat Party in the USA. It would explain a lot.
Reid and Pelosi look pretty alien, and Barry could easily be a remote controlled robot like that Eddie Murphy movie. The there’s Michele O, the first Klingon First Lady…
Be a riot if David Icke was right all along, eh? ~:D

  20. Dunno about that. I don’t think I’d want to live in a world where Icke was right. Best reason for suicide I’ve ever heard of!
