Just another example of why bicycles manned by adults or otherwise should not be allowed on roadways.
These wobbling menaces are an annoyance to cars and trucks but are a lethal menace to motorcycles.
I had to check the article first to see if the cyclist has survived so that I could then comment that the irony was too delicious.
Is an environmentalist splatted on the pavement
not carbon waste ?
How is riding a bike in a race carbon free?
Wouldn’t he produce less C02 sitting on the couch watching bowling?
I guess he didn’t hear the electric car coming. Another argument for loud combustion engines (with leaky mufflers if possible).
Double your pleasure by voting in the poll on the left hand side concerning GW Bush’s book- and make the Vancouver left cry.
Many, many years ago, I read a SciFi story (author and title no longer recalled) about a simple man who helped some aliens and they offered to do whatever he wanted as a reward. He longed for the old days before electricity so he asked them to remove all electricity from the world. Alas, he did not understand that the world is held together by electricity. The story ended with him lying on his bed watching the electric light and waiting for it to go out. The same simple-mindedness is evident in the people who do not realize that we, and everything living on this planet, are carbon-based life forms – and they want to ban it!
Just another example of why cars and trucks manned by adults or otherwise should not be allowed on roadways.
These speedy menaces are lethal to bicycles.
Whoever made the claim that electric vehicles are carbon free never took a day of actual schooling.Canada and most other countries get their electricity from COAL fired generating plants. Therefore they are NOT electric but coal, natural gas, hydro or nuclear powered. They should be refered to as such.
Not that you should laugh at other people’s pain but this is such a kick in the head.
I don’t know how these people are counting but if they want to make it around the world in 80 days and they left 3 months ago, they’re not going to make it. That’s progress?
On this day in 1889, Nellie Bly set off on her attempt to make it around the world in 80 days. She did it in a little over 72 days.
Doogie I agree electric cars may be too quiet. I think they should be sold with a small external speaker that recites “Dweeb” while the car is in motion.
Another full serving of sweet schadenfreude!!
Bravo.
Yogi asks:

No it is a carbon sink.

Agree.
Bicycles are from the same era as horse transportation and largely represent the same dangers as horses would on the road with automobiles.
Re: “Lethal menace to motorcycles?”
Is that a joke, Sasquatch? Seriously?

Lets see – a person on a bike is hit by (or hits) an electric vehicle, and that’s yet another example of why cycists shouldn’t be allowed on the road. Hmmmmm. Somehow I think the million or so trips by bike taken safely every single day in this country taken on balance lead to the opposite conclusion.
I’m not surprised OZ would agree. Right up there with some of the dumbest comments I’ve read on this blog. When was the last time someone in a car was injured by someone on a bike? Was there a first time? Lethal menace to motorcycles? Does that (motorcyclist killed by bicyclist) actually happen all the time? Did I miss it? Hs it ever happened?
If we wanted to reduce the “threat”, “menace” or danger, we’d, obviously (to anyone using their head, anyway), be looking at removing motor vehicles. Not something I’m recommending.
I think the key word in OZ’s post is “annoyance”. He’s annoyed because he’s actually forced to pay attention when operating his motor vehicle, and resents that he may be forced to allow someone else to get to where they’re going, and it might cost him two seconds or so.
