I think I’m going to sign up for the Las Vegas Review-Journal;
This newspaper traces its roots to before Las Vegas was Las Vegas.
We’ve seen cattle ranches give way to railroads. We chronicled the construction of Hoover Dam. We reported on the first day of legalized gambling. The first hospital. The first school. The first church. We survived the mob, Howard Hughes, the Great Depression, several recessions, two world wars, dozens of news competitors and any number of two-bit politicians who couldn’t stand scrutiny, much less criticism.
We’re still here doing what we do for the people of Las Vegas and Nevada. So, let me assure you, if we weathered all of that, we can damn sure outlast the bully threats of Sen. Harry Reid.

I read this earlier today…no more concealing the weapons…the knives are out in full view. Not a bad thing either…..
You do not treat your constituents like that. It’s obvious these Democrats have forgotten who their bosses are.
I hope he gets booted out in the midterms, because if anybody deserves a good a** kicking, he does.
Good on the publisher. I’ve sent him a note of support.
Just the blind arrogance of such a statement to anyone that you represent.
But to say that to a newspaper?
Like many here, I am not a fan of the dead tree media, but there is something to be said for the old adage of not making enemies of people who buy ink by the tanker load.
I’ve been reading (and enjoying) Vin Suprynowicz’s editorials from the LVRJ for years.
Worth bookmarking. His weekly columns are accessible on-line on Sunday mornings.

Same here.
Joe
The same Harry Reid that appended funding for rum makers and racetracks in the TARP deal??? Hmmmmm….and he’s from Nevada? With ties to Chicago politicians??? Hmmmmmm….
I think this newspaper man needs protection!
Time for a recycled SDA quote: “Harry Reid, put down the crack pipe.” — T. Smiley
All I’ll say is this:
A monkey with a manual typewriter could take all this stuff and turn them into some spectacular campaign ads for Republicans come 2010 and 2012. If Republicans can’t catalog and get this all sorts of commercials, well, then they don’t deserve to win.
Of course, this also explains why Obama wants control over the Internet. Imagine what independent ads on YouTube could do to his poll numbers!
I heard on “news-max” that the RNC(GOP) was targeting Reid for one of their priority projects…they figure he is vulnerable…is this a sign he is desperate and has developed a case of the stupids?…..or is it his normal condition?
Talk about coincidence!
My sister, who is heavy into genealogy, sent me an e-mail this morning concerning the good Mr. Reid. I’m certain she had not seen the piece in The Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Anyway, this is what she sent:
Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California, was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Congressman Harry Reid’s great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor.
The only known photograrh of Remus, shows him standing on the gallows in Montana Territory.
…(Black & white photo with noose around neck).
On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription:
‘Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.’
So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle.
Believe it or not, Harry Reid’s staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:
“Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.”
Now that’s how it’s done, folks! Real Political Spin!

Authentic?? Wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
is the las vegas review-journal also not waiting for that ominous asteroid?
if they are part of MSM should sda not be salivating at yet another independent daily seeing difficult times, regardless of the source?
jist askin’ . . . .
“In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.”
Say what you will, but that’s funny.
Interesting, this is another Freudian glimpse into Reid’s compromised political ethics.
A couple days days ago I joked on an SDA thread that the Obama reds would probably appoint a Mass. ‘czar” to fill Teddy’s vacant seat. Well Reid beat me to it:

This guy is a real piece of work and totally comfortable with the Chicago Dem mafia running the white house. He represents all that is wrong with the Washington governing class.
I’m glad his state’s largest paper has a hate on for him. It may not take a lot to get Americans to turf incumbents – according to the new Rasmussen poll 60% of US voters are so disgusted they’re ready to tuft the entire incumbent congress.
Reid is just a symptom of a larger problem with malfeasant administration .
Curious_george…
The operative word here is “independent”…and the more the better.

snagglepuss:
It’s a funny story, and I laughed, but I doubt it’s true.
For one thing, Harry Reid is a Senator. Senators don’t like to be referred to as “Congressman” – that’s for the plebes in the House.
KevinB: You’re right. I’ve been had!
Just googled Judy Wallman and I see she’s pulled this off on Tipper Gore, Hillary Rodham, Dion, and a host of others.
Rats! I SO wanted it to be real. Oh well, got to admire her ingenuity and sense of humor.
Come to think of it, I seem to recall some of this revisionist history in all those jokes somewhere in the foggy past. ;(~
LVRJ has debunked the Remus Reid story:
http://www.lvrj.com/blogs/mitchell/One_more_reason_for_journalism_of_verification.html
Why wait for 2010? The people of Nevada should storm his office and throw the asshole in the street.
Yeah but the Remus Reid story is so believable after all the Kennedy clan made their money smuggling whiskey.
These stories remind me of the time I was bragging to my uncle that my wife is a descendant of a President of the United States of America, to which my uncle declared, “Big deal your great, great uncle was hanged for stealing sheep”.
Soccermom @ 2:54 PM “booted in the midterms”? Is that what they’re called now? I gotta get out more.
There are 3000 comments to the article and it’s increasing by the minute. I have never seen that many comments before. Practically none of them (of the subset I have read) support Reid.
Nevada was long a libertarian state until all that California equity started spilling over the Sierra Nevada’s from the ’90s forward. I sent an email to Reid during “W’s” first term advising him to tone it down. As a native Nevadan, listening to the far-left rhetoric was a new and unwelcome situation. I continue to think negative thoughts in his general direction.
I predict Harry Reid will be comfortably re-elected.
There are a lot of reasons, but the basic one is: One man’s “pork” is another’s “bacon” — as in, that Congresscritter over there is a pork-barreling SOB, but my Congresscritter brings home the bacon to my State and District.
It’s not just welfare recipients and Federal employees who feel that way, either. It’s the casino owners and the owners of small manufacturing plants — yes, there’s manufacturing in Nevada, quite a lot of it, in fact — who look at “health care reform” and say, “Jeez Louise, if the Government pays for it I don’t have to! Think what that’ll do for the Bottom Line!” They’ll not only vote for Harry, they’ll pay MoveOn.org “volunteers” $15 an hour to shill for him, and pay $200 an hour for the buses to schlep them around. They’re confident that they won’t be impacted — after all, they buy Harry his office, and expect him to see to it that they don’t get taxed; that’s for other people.
Regards,
Ric
Well Ric, Tom Daschle used to think the same thing.
Look how that turned out.
