It May Not Be Too Late To Save Stephane Dion

Now is the time for action – call his office.
Contact the Party.
Reach out to his supporters, let us lend our voices and our courage!
Stay Stephane Stay!

But, whatever the fate of the man who’s come to be known as the best Liberal Party leader in the history of Canadian conservativism, let us be grateful in the knowledge that Stephane has left us with a gift even greater than himself
gocoalitiongo.jpg
So now is the moment for action – call your Liberal and NDP MP’s!
Tell them they must not waver.. they must not give in to doubt and partisan accusation – that they must fight, fight, fight the forces that would tear their Coalition apart!
Tell them their parties deserve no less!

  1. The left outside of Quebec gives their support to this coalition. But having given the Bloc the veto, the coalition is leveraged by the Bloc to make sure the economic stimulus is sucked up by Quebec.
Our friends on the left outside of Quebec are robbed of the economic benefit of the stimulus promised by the coalition. Oops.

  2. he will not desert us in our time of need…..he must not lay down his scythe of righteousness til the crop is in………….he must continue to flail and winnow the harvest till only the finest vintage is laid down for the future…his light shineth bright beneath the bushel but one fine day it will illumine this land from sea to sea…and we the deserving and undeserving alike shall bask in safety and security…

  3. The spirit of Mr. Dithers lives on in the Liberal Party.
There must be those within the Liberal Party who are horrified at its move from a traditional centre-left into a far-left with Bob Rae is its spokesman.
Rae has grabbed the microphone while Iggy sits in the background, watching history repeate itself. What happened to his ancestors, when the marxist grabbed power in Russia, is now happening to the Liberal Party.
    Yet, Iggy remains silenced.
Rae was on Sunday Edition this morning. His rhetoric was full of holes, but he was not held to account. Oh well, if his own party won’t hold him to account, who’s the CBC to disagree?
The people in the ballot box will have their final say.

  4. I’m just curious as to who is financing Bob Rae’s cross country tour? It certainly can’t be the Liberal party, since they’re broke, so who is it?
    The NDP? The CAW?

  5. They had the Senate government leader on Enright this morning. I missed her name but a very effective woman. Enright spoke of “the myths” like Con. members were looking to dump Harper. Later in the broadcast on a panel, one of the members said they should replace the leaders. Which leaders? asked Enright. Well Dion and Harper was the answer. We will not commit suicide if you dump your leader…love it.

  6. I believe Bob was an operative for the NDP in hijacking the Liberal Party.
This looks more and more of the NDP destroying their leftist challenger.

  7. The NDP ? The CAW ?
    Yup, $Millions there.
Peanuts, though – compared to the Maurice Strong gang’s $Billions.
Google them. Will keep you busy all Sunday afternoon !

“dennis asks… I’m just curious as to who is financing Bob Rae’s cross country tour?”
rae has the “liberal machine”… in the person of his “powerbroker” (pun intended)
    brother, john… backing his play.

  9. Let me get this straight. Harper wins two elections in a row and they want US to dump our leader. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Meanwhile, Dion has brought the Liberals to their worst showing since confederation and they’re keeping him on to see if he can one up himself.
    OMG, ROFL!!!

  11. This comment was posted in the Toronto Star today by Therese:
‘Advice to Dion from a fellow Liberal:-
‘The art of politics is learning to walk with your back to the wall, your elbows high, and a smile on your face. It’s a survival game played under the glare of lights. If you don’t learn that, you’re quickly finished. It’s damn tough and you can’t complain; you just have to take it and give it back. The press wants to get you. The opposition wants to get you. Even some of the bureaucrats want to get you. They all may have an interest in making you look bad and they all have ambitions of their own. – Jean Chrétien, 1985’
Yessss, Therese! You’ve hit the nail on the head! But where can we ever hope to find such a person? ….umm…oh, wait a mo……..

  12. I understand B-Ray is going around the country ra-raaing The Great Collusion.
Iggy The Silent reamins, well, silent.
So, is B-Ray going to outflank the Silent One and become de facto leader? Possibly. Fingers crossed.

  13. History, when the dust settles and the files are exposed, will record this as an attempted coup by the Canadian Labour Congress, using their sock puppets in the NDP. Whacko Jacko went for the gold ring because of the opportunistic catastrophe that is Steffi & the LPC circa late 2008.
Socialists and Separatists, giving each other quick hand jobs under the cover of and “economic crises” and mistaking their self pleasuring for real sex.
    Progressives are delusional and dangerous.

  14. Honestly, if Stephen Harper plays his cards right we will see the Liberal party break apart on the budget vote …
Canadians (on the whole) do not seem to support large government bailouts but do want to see some action from the government to “help” the economy. Starting in January Stephen Harper should announce 1 or 2 well thought-out initiatives every week that are meant to help the economy and are going to be included in the budget it will become difficult for people to vote against the budget; if these initiatives combine for a fairly modest price-tag ($10 Billion) and he argues that the Canadian economy is stronger than the American economy, and that Canada has no need for (and can not afford) a $30+ Billion bail-out it may become impossible for any more-conservative Liberals to vote against the budget.

  15. the lieberals have governed Kanada for about 75% of the time since 1867, now who would have thought that they would cripple themselves by blowing both their feet off with shotgun-rae

  16. It must be over for the LPC.
In these troubling times, for all things Lib, what does the wk do ? Heads for Jamaica ! Who can blame him !?

  17. I’ve got to say Kate I love the Psi Ops campaign. Every time I hear about the Liberals being torn on the question of Dion and coalition I raise a proverbial glass to your pogrom of disinformation.
    Viva la Conservative revolucion!!

  18. Unite the left? Couldn’t agree more; it’ll be easier to expose them and take them down if they’re united. Quit hogging the centre you lefties, and try to stand for something.

  19. For all those Liberals who think Stephie should carry the can for the failed Coup;
[On Thursday, hours before the Prime Minister was to go and visit the GG, a petition was circulated for all Liberal MPs to sign expressing their support for the defeat of the government AND the coalition. Again – this was Thursday morning, after the video disaster. Every single one of the MPs in caucus (save one) signed the petition.] Globe

  20. if the redthroated Booby Rae hijacks the party machinery the bluefeather Puffin Iggy will cross the floor faster than a swifter dry mop.
meanwhile the slick tailed Talibanjackdaw will become the defacto lieberal leader.
    cue the loon call.

  21. Saw former Lib president Stephen LeDrew was on NewsNet Sat night with a few interesting things to say.
First, in the Party Constitution, a leader can only resign on his own volition.
Second, the Party Constitution states a leader can only be chosen at an open convention and the date was chosen because there’s a process for choosing delegates that must be respected.
Hmmm. If Rae cannot respect the Constitution of his own party how is he expected to respect the Constitition of the country.
    The answer is self-evident.

  22. If we Tory backers can’t have the gift of Dion, let’s pray the Liberals deliver Bob Rae to us. Can you imagine the fun Tory spinmeisters would have with the Bob Rae record when he was the preem here in Ontario?

  23. If Harper cuts taxes does that guarantee an election?
The coalition was planning on cancelling corporate tax cuts and they’ve been complaining about the GST cuts since they happened.
Tax cuts will push them over the edge.

  24. If we Tory backers can’t have the gift of Dion, let’s pray the Liberals deliver Bob Rae to us. Can you imagine the fun Tory spinmeisters would have with the Bob Rae record when he was the preem here in Ontario?

  25. @ Shannow, well tax cuts are economic stimulus despite what Craig Oliver thinks. I’d imagine that a lot of the proposals made during the election will be included (income splitting, diesel tax cut, etc.)

  26. The clip of young Trudeau shows he has the naivety of the academic, stating that Duceppe will keep to the agreement with nary a mention of soveriegnty.
One of the MSM reporters actually says,”isn’t that naive?”, but Trudeau says ,”he promises”.
    Sigh.

  27. “wasnt it Bob Rae that said. tax cuts will not put money in Canadians pockets?”
Bob Rae is hardly an authority figure on economics. That said, just like David Miller and Dalton McGuinty, there’s no tax that they don’t like >:|
Technically, Bob Rae is right. It “will not put money in Canadians pockets”. It will stop the government from taking as much money out of Canadian pockets in the first place. It’ll also handicap the government’s ability to expand.

  28. “So now is the moment for action – call your Liberal and NDP MP’s!
Tell them they must not waver.. they must not give in to doubt and partisan accusation – that they must fight, fight, fight the forces that would tear their Coalition apart!”
As an Alberta Separatist (I would happily welcome SK and BC as well in this endeavour) I welcome the prospect of this and have sent my emails in this regard.
I have no great love for this country – AS IT HAS BEEN AND AS IT IS NOW. That could easily change if Canada gets off it’s duff and starts dealing with these problems instead of sweeping them under the carpet analogous to Ostrich behaviour when times seem threatening.
It has always been about Quebec’s needs and interests, then about Ontario’s needs and interests. When is the time to address the West’s needs and interests? NEVER. We are just there to be cheerleaders and dutiful followers of whatever the Centrally controlled parties deem as their top priorities- and that never includes the West’s best interests. If it wasn’t for Harper Martin/Chretien would have already locked us in the closet and have stolen our safe to hand over to Quebec.
Even with Harper it goes on as witnessed in the last election, and is about to get even more lucrative under the Coalition. Of course if it was Ontario’s money that they were giving away I’d be OK with it. But as long as we are contributing the Lion’s share of funding into the economy we need to have the final say in how it is distributed. If that means setting up a provisional Western government (to be followed by a referendum) to counter Quebec and Ontario, then I say we go forward with it post haste.
The entrenched powers will not pay any attention to any threat until it it at their throat. Then they deal with it and usually with kid gloves. Ass backwards to how it should be but it is as such.

  29. @ Angry
Stop f&cking bashing Ontario! Which province do you think was responsible for the majority of payments to other provinces? Which province just elected 51 Conservative MPs? I didn’t hear anything for Ontario from this coalition except billions to unions backing the NDP.
What’s that you say cuz all I hear is crickets.
    Get a life!

  30. Aah yes my gentel readers gather round we are going to a land and time far away it is the early years of the “dirty thirtys” Germany is in ruins, a young Austrian coperal who won a Iron Cross, first class is running for power, he does not get enough of the vote to be Chanceller so he forms a COALITION and is granted his wish, the coalition partners think the can control this “relative newcomer” sadly history will prove them very wrong the mans name as you will have guessed by now was Adolph Hitler a name that will live in infamy as long as people read their history, if they do not they are doomed to repeat it. The problem in the last election was that CPC won a majority in the ROC not in Quebec we have to quit propping up partys that don’t have a chance and give a real majority to Harper we have sufficent votes to do that without Quebec coalitions are very dangerous as backroom deals doom democracy. We did not give even one vote to this Cabal we must have an election. Or enough real Liberals must cross the floor and express their confidance in the CPC. I know Ducette said he would “honour” the agreement, Trudeau-lite even squeaked “Doucettet promised” “let’s roll Canada the barbarians are at the gates”
Cheers Bubba the hard working Boilermaker
Merry Christmas and god bless Canada

  31. Ron, I tend to think you’re correct about Power Corp being more than intimately connected to Bob Rae.
I’m not familiar with all that Power Corp is involved with in Canada. Had Le Coalition achieved their peaceful coup d’etat, could you speculate on how Power Corp would have benefited economically?

  32. I’ve never done it before, but would this be a good time to troll some leftie blogs? Or is that bad form for a conservative? I wonder which sites would provide the most entertaining head explosions.

  33. Posted by Shannow:
“If Harper cuts taxes does that guarantee an election?

Nothing guarantees an election. What is virtually guranteed is that Harper will be defeated on a vote Jan 26th. After that I have little faith that the GG will respect Harper’s calling an election and not relinquish parliament to the Cabal. In fact I think the odds are about 60/40 for that she will give in to the Treacherous Trio given the MSM support for it and enough time to persuade the masses in Central Canada.
If she believes in her CBC roots it’s probable.

  34. Can you imagine the fun Tory spinmeisters would have with the Bob Rae record when he was the preem here in Ontario?
Spinmeisters would have no fun at all. Bob Rae is the most despised politician in Ontario.
There is a direct relationship between Rea’s proximity to the Liberal leadership and Conservative higher polling numbers.
Why, one could almost imagine Rea as a Conservative stalking horse.

  35. With Jack Layton loose to roam the Liberal Chicken coop. How long till the word Liberal melts into Canadian history as the cotton candied fluff in the sun, they have become? With both the Communists in bed with the Separatists we all know who’s on the bottom of this ménage de trio’s. Goodbye Liberals & thanks for the chuckles, lies, pay off‘s, stealing, dividing the Nation. Immigration for votes instead of opportunity, the destruction of our legal system. The lowering of our dollar. Caging us in our own Country both monetarily & socially, through censorship of the Airwaves. Now Treason We will not miss you at all.
Any Roman worth his salt would have fallen on their sword by now.

  36. If enough people phone and write in for Dion to stay, then Layton can say with a straight face “We know what Canadians think!”

  37. ron in kelowna – ” … For all those Liberals who think Stephie should carry the can for the failed Coup”
A little bit of faulty math by someone. I count 76 lib, 37 NDP and 48 Bloc signatures … so 2 Bloc are missing.
You can download it all from:
    http://www.liberal.ca/story_15520_e.aspx

  38. Layton, I think, is funded by the Unions – and they are pretty wealthy, the CUPE, the CAW etc.
Rae, I think, is funded by PowerCorp – the private industrial empire based in Montreal, which was the authority and money to power in Ottawa for over a generation: Trudeau, Mulroney, Chretien, Martin..and now Rae.
This industrial empire (Desmarais, PowerCorp etc)set up the political governance in Ottawa as its ‘front’ in order to get subsidies etc for its business interests.
The govt in turn, operated as a Keep Canada Quiet mode, by heavily subsidizing projects in the Maritimes, Quebec and Ontario. New immigrants who come primarily to Ontario were set up as isolate groups dependent on the Liberals for funding, in return for their votes.
The West was ignored for votes and used as a vital source of money, money, to fund the projects in the east.
Can the Liberal Party move out of this mode of operation and become its own party? It’s been held within the control of PowerCorp for a generation. It has no policies, no ideology, nothing other than acting as a front for this industrial empire.
At the moment, we have a fight in the Liberal realm for its seats. Layton and the NDP. Rae and PowerCorp. Is there anyone who can start up a genuine and valid Liberal Party that answers to itself? I have no idea.

  39. Glasnost, I have. Just Google for “blog search” and you’ll find the Google Blog Search engine. Enter “Rally for Canada”. You’ll find plenty of Coalition Spin Blogs.
I always ask them 2 simple questions:
    1. How does there assertion that 62% of Canadians support the Coalition jive with the recent polls that clearly show that a majority of Canadians are AGAINST the Coalition?
    2. Even with the evidence at hand, if they’re still so confident in their mighty Coalition then will they publicly speak out in favour of the Coalition only running one candidate in each riding? This would eliminate vote splitting and heighten their chances of winning the next election.
Not surprising, they have no way to explain #1 and are utterly silent about #2. Telling, most telling.

  40. Well I wrote a letter telling them the liberal party are all bastardly bullies for wanting to throw out sweet gentle Dion. So what if he can’t speak English? You all have closed caption on your TV’s. Isn’t this the country of equal opportunity, where any doofus from Quebec can be leader of the liberal party?

  41. The online petition just passed 309,000 signatures. For the benefit of SDA bloggers Angry and Phil, I would point out that a huge number of the signatures are from Ontario. I, for one, am going to be careful to distinguish between “Ontario” and “progressive Toronto”.

  42. If I was Machiavellian, I’d call or email every NDP and Liberal MP and office I could and get them to keep pushing the coalition. I’m hearing some Liberals backing off…I say stroke them and make them believe that they have the support of millions of Canadians. Imagine what happens when a general election is called in Jan.
    favill

  43. For anyone who wants to see the Power links of PowerCorp, SDA has a chart from the March 14, 2006 issue of the Western Standard.
Since I always get caught in the filter if I post a link, I’ll mumble through it.
After the http, colon and double slashes, type in one word the name of this blog dot com slash archives slash connectingchart dot jpg.
I just test is and it’s there in all its glory.

  44. ET: **Is there anyone who can start up a genuine and valid Liberal Party that answers to itself? I have no idea.**
I doubt that you could propose a definition of what would today be a genuine and valid Liberal Party. It certainly appears that the Liberals can’t.

  45. ET: “Layton, I think, is funded by the Unions … Rae, I think, is funded by PowerCorp.”
I’m curious to know what you mean by “is funded by.” The same suggestion also gets made by quite a few commenters here. Not that I’m saying you aren’t correct, but we all know that, by law, funding can now only be provided by individual donors, and up to only $1100 per year. Are you suggesting that laws have been broken? That’s always possible, but the Conservatives would have been on the story ages ago.

  46. It is funny. Those stupid coalition dummies. They haven’t clued in yet that they have awoken the real Canadians. The salt of the earth Canadians, who very seldom bother with politics. They even seldom voted, because it was a pain in the ass. Well those real Canadians, the backbone of Canada, all they can see is the liberals hooking up with the pinko’s and bloc to overthrow a democratically elected government. They don’t give a fiddler’s fart what some academic professor has to say about the leagality of it. They look at that professor as someone who had to go on to higher education, because they were too lazy to do a day’s work. Not a good idea to wake them up, and a worse idea to get them riled.
