A Friendly Reminder For Stephane Dion

In all your garble about “alternative” energy technology coming to Saskatchewan on the gentle green wings of Liberal faeries, it appears you’ve fallen victim to an embarrassing oversight.
So if you would, Mr. Dion – copy this down and post it to your caucus Energy Star fridge door;

oilgas.jpg
1. Saskatchewan floats upon lakes of oil.
2. The beaches of those lakes are comprised of endless glistening dunes of coal.
3. Wafting over the scene are massive cumulous clouds of natural gas.
4. We have a population density of well under 2 persons per square km.
You see, Saskatchewan doesn’t need no stinking giant fans. We don’t need no stinking giant mirrors. We don’t need no stinking puny hybrids. (We don’t need no stinking nuclear power, for that matter, though we’re positively glowing with that, too.)
In short, Saskatchewan is not in danger of “running out” of conventional energy. Not many Liberals seem to know this. I believe they may have us mistaken for Ontario.
We have enough conventional energy in Saskatchewan to power every electrical grid, fill every SUV, and idle in every drive through in the province until long after the remainder of the world has ground to a halt. (In fact, we should probably make drive-through’s mandatory just to burn off the stuff that bubbles up from the ground on its own.)
So you won’t be taking our money to build over-priced, underperforming “alternative energy” crap we don’t need. You can use your money to build over-priced, underperforming crap we don’t need.
I hope this has helped clarify matters.
Thank you.
One more thing – if we’re the ones doing all the polluting…

…then how come Toronto has all of the smog?

  1. Dear Steffi,
Kiss my natural gas surplused, oil soaked, uranium enriched ass.
We don’t need no stink’n Lieberal, pointy headed professor, city boy who eat hot dogs with a Knife & fork to tell us what to do with our energy reserves.
    Comprenez-vous ??

  2. Keep up the good work Kate…
That l’il house on the praire reminds of the Clampetts.
You got Texas gold out there!
And we know the blue sky wasn’t photoshopped.
Heh…no wonder Squinty Mcguinty approved of Dion’s shaft.

  3. Excellent post. It must go without saying that we wouldn’t reject practical and cost-effective alternative energy systems if some whiz-kid were to come up with one. But by the same token it would be just insane to reject existing systems until said whiz-kid does his thing and proves that the alternative is actually an improvement.
A minor question, Kate. That pic of Toronto looks familiar. Wasn’t that the one that the CBC (or someone) p-shopped to appear murkier in order to demonstrate the effects of climate change and CO2 emissions (even though the smoke plume in the foreground is primarily water vapour and the smog in the background is made of particulates)?
Just wondering. Because if so, then be ready for some wanker out there to ignore the point of the photo (the smog) just to accuse you of some sort of dishonesty.

  4. Dion’s Green Shaft Plan
(carbon tax on every breath you take)
    Every breath you take
    Every move you make
    Every bond you break
    Every step you take
    Ill be taxing you
    Every single day
    Every word you say
    Every game you play
    Every night you stay
    Ill be taxing you
    Oh, cant you see
    You belong to me
    How my poor heart aches
    With every step you take
    Every move you make
    Every vow you break
    Every smile you fake
    Every claim you stake
    Ill be taxing you
Since youve gone I been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but its you I cant replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby, please…
    Oh, cant you see
    You belong to me
    How my poor heart aches
    With every breath you take
    Every move you make
    Every vow you break

  5. This is exactly the image that was going through my head when I was listening to that fool Stephan Dion talk about how Saskatchewan and Alberta are polluting the world with carbon dioxide, a colorless odorless gas that is vital to plant life. This “Green Shift” is like a Seinfeld episode. This is a crisis about nothing. The amazing thing is that so many people actually buy into the insanity. Canadians better wake up because if the that silly little man ever becomes Prime Minister we are in big trouble.

  6. OIL. One price for the West another for the rest.
This time around we can throw the east crumbs.

  7. There’s a decent market for grain too.
But hey, don’t get too excited. The Liberals would unleash that military they’ve been building up all these years to keep bit in the west’s mouth.
    How far would they go?
    “Just watch me”.

  8. A fiver for the first moonbat to throw out the it’s not smog , it’s just water vapor blast .

  9. Hybrid’s and electric cars are overated. There is a shelf life for the battery and when an owner takes it in to trade it in on a new car, the owner will find that his expensive hybrid has no value. The value of the car is dependent on the battery and since there is no way of ensuring the health of the battery, any savvy purchaser is not going to buy a potential dud, unless his name is Dion. A new battery is about $7,000. would you want to buy a used car and immediately have to pay another $7,000 on top to ensure it is useable?

  10. Mary T: “To the voters in TO and southern Ont.”
    (Angry’s blog)
Mary T knows that Ontario has 41 Conservative MPs.
IMO, telling easterners to freeze in the dark is playing into socialist Citoyen Dion-Liberals’ hands.
    Beware.

  11. GTA vs Sask, vis-a-vis pollution….GTA loses hands down.
Once you get past the litter, the wannabe gang bangers and the winos who have pi$$ed themselves, don’t even bother trying to go for a run outdoors.
Last time I made that mistake, I could not breathe after a few miles(I normally run 5)and my chest hurt for 2 days.
You can actually start smelling the cesspool at about Oshawa when coming in from the east. And after a rain, the shoreline of lake Ontario is as toxic as any lake in NA.
Idiot moonbats and their throwing of rocks whilst living in glass houses.
    LEFTARD MORONS!
    VOTE REFORM!
    GO ARMY!

  12. Excellent….. I had a thought the other day,one of a few,and I wonder if it is possible to shift the eco-elite into thinking that we can save the planet by purging it of oil.Nothing lives in oil, nothing grows in oil,oil is dirty. Oil in the planet is akin to a pus-filled boil that must be lanced for the patient to survive…Whenever I fly anywhere I am amazed by the vast area of the planet that has no one around. No pollution, flowing rivers, majestic mountains, etc. I believe the atmosphere is earth’s lungs and they are extremely healthy, except for a few blemishes, particularily around the Kyoto area. So,don’t worry about killing a polar bear when you crank over the truck, think that you are lancing the boil.

  13. I haven’t heard of anyone else doing this, but I looked at the numbers and this is what I found:
Alberta accounts for 31% of CO2 emissions and 10% of the population, Saskatchewan accounts for 9.6% of CO2 emissions and 3.1% of the population, Ontario accounts for 27.2% of CO2 emissions and 38.9% of the population, and Qubec accounts for 12.1% of CO2 emissions and 23.6% of the population. If you tax people based on the CO2 emissions and then give tax breaks in proportion to the population this represents a massive monetary transfer from Alberta and Saskatchewan towards Ontario and Qubec; if you assume a tax of $15 Billion this transfer would be (roughly) $1,000 for every man woman and child in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Now, why this is (in my opinion) amazingly unfair is that the main reasons Alberta and Saskatchewan have such high CO2 emissions is because we provide the energy resources and food for the rest of Canada. In my opinion it is insane to tax Alberta and Saskatchewan for the beef, wheat and oil that is eaten in Ontario and Qubec.

  14. jus because you ave clean air in halberta hand sass cadj chewon does not mean da wistern pipples shoud not pay for tron toe. and we clean hup da drugs der too. dis is equalize the county. equal what we take from you we give to ka beck.-Borat Dion.
can you not see , hif ontario industy and ka bec industry is go down , da west muss go down too.dis is a izzy promise

  15. Kate,
You left Potash off the list and I can tell you that potash is the new oil. Most of the world needs it even more than they need oil.
    Potash makes crops grow.
People like oil second best to food.
Saskatchewan is also floating on lakes of potash.
    The Gap has filled.
    Look good on you.

  16. a direct to Garth Turner, now I feel like I need a shower.
it was interesting though reading some of his comments. northern alberta moonscape?
again I think CBCpravda is sending folks pictures of Sudbury.

  17. Here’s a basic truth I’ve never heard a political or media pundit point out……
Stephen Harper understands the people of Quebec about thirty times better than Stephane Dion understands westerners.

  18. The green shaft will be bought into not because it will supposedly do anything for the environment. It will be bought into because it is the way to “stick it to the (so called)rich”. Which will be everyone belonging to the middle class, meaning ‘us’.
Unfortunately, this has become the socialist creed: Begrudge your neighbour because he or she has more money, a better job, nicer things, a better spouse, more toys, etc. He or she must have cheated to get these things and it is not fair that you cannot sit on your a** and have the same. If you cannot have it, no one should have it. It is a sin against humanity if you don’t knock your neighbour down to your level.
Thus, “Socialism” is properly defined as the system of contolling and enslaving the masses by fooling them into thinking they are sticking it to the rich.

  19. Lots of business at Garth’s Global Warming Kool-Aid stand. Deep draughts being swallowed. Could it be that liberals dumbed down our education system purposefully?

  20. Obviously, the residents of Alberta and Saskatchewan, are providing the residents of Toronto, and the rest of Canada, with the dangerous substance that is slowly killing them.We are the ‘pusher man’. We are the enablers. Dion knows that, and is punishing us as he should,he is so wise. But,I don’t think the gradual withdrawal method will be effective. It is time for tough love. The only way that the citizens of Toronto, and the rest of Canada, will beat their addiction to the sweet, sweet energy of the west,is to go cold turkey. We must CUT.THEM.OFF. It is the responsible thing to do.

  21. Except that we export the vast majority, if not all, the resources produced here. So, it won’t last that long. I am not in favour of this green shift, but you need to be more honest in your summary of these facts.

  22. Shaken,
Of course it’s deliberate. It doesn’t take much brain power to figure out that it is much harder to control a well-educated population than a population of superstitious fearful, weak, indecisive, low self-esteem turds that our educational system puts out now. There is also very little offered in trades. God forbid people should aspire to a blue collar job. That would also reduce the need to import more workers, many of whom do have some skills.
Most teachers are terribly ignorant and self-centered themselves. I have met many and worked with many in the course of my work. I know what I am saying.
If you meet a Canadian who is smart, savvy, confident and skilled. You have met someone who got that way in spite of our educational system.
Perhaps good parents, private school, personal intelligence, good role models etc.
If our government wanted a smart, educated and skilled population they certainly have the power to put that into effect.
    So why don’t they?
People of the the left “believe” what they are told.
People on the right are more skeptical, will research and draw conclusion based on the evidence. They will then “know” what to believe because it’s the fact of the matter.
Which kind of person would a control freak want as a constituent?

  23. John V.
In the back rooms of all the political parties is the slogan not “You can fool some of the people all of the time. Those are the ones we must concentrate on!”?

  24. I was reading comments in the Gazette today. Comments seemed to be split with respect to support or not the Green Shaft. What struck me is that a certain number of people who are supporters qualified their remarks by saying — well if it really is to be revenue neutral. I think people are VERY confused on this point. It is NOT revenue neutral for you or me — quite the reverse. I think it was Steve Janke who pointed out about a week ago that all taxes cost something to implement. Add to this the significant increase in costs for things like food (which are hauled by trucks, trains, etc.) and you are looking at significant increase in the cost of living for everyone. The “tax cuts” by Liberals seem paltry when these other issues are looked at.
Then — because of increased municipal and provincial costs (someone has to pay for increased cost of heating, running busses, etc.) I am concerned about the numbers of people that have no clue about how they will be affected by this. Dion’s claim of “revenue neutral” is essentially meaningless to the extent that it does not address the actual cost to individuals. His “Auditor General” will “oversee” is nothing but political posturing. The tax is deceptive and many Canadians are being duped.

  25. What is Harper waiting for… His media folk need to use the British Circus-Circus Parody were the Guy is facing the Black Knight. Cast Dion as the guy willing to see Canada hacked to bits to prove the Carbon policy is good for the US…
This would play well in the US:
See America, The Canadians give up then GM Union jobs for Carbon Tax & Big AL. We Canadians don’t make trucks..Canadian love not making trucks! Hey! where did all those trucks come from..Made in China! I important person in America now, some Union folk from Detroit just called and want Big Al & I to go fishing with them. Duh

  26. LindaL – a very valid point. I almost drove off the road yesterday when I heard on the radio that according to some poll the Liberals are gaining on the Conservatives, suggesting it has to do with Dion’s idiot tax. If there is any truth to this, then I guess I might as well give up on Canada which was once a great and free country. How stupid can one get?

  27. Quimby,at 10:31,we do export much of the production. But Canada is not exporting all of it’s oil and then importing oil from other producers. If I am wrong, please provide a reputable link. If you were referring to someone else’s post,my apologies.

  28. Linda L ,
I can’t recall where I saw this or who said it ( sorry to the author ) , but regarding revenue neutral taxes he/she wrote …. the only revenue neutral tax is NO TAX … sums it up pretty well , for me , anyways .

  29. Alain, you did hear right. It was a harris-decima poll that had a tiny flaw. The question that was asked was,and I am paraphrasing.” The liberal party’s green shift plan will be revenue neutral, boost the incomes of Canada’s poorest, and save the planet. Do you think this is good policy?”. Hell yes,we can reach nirvana tonight. The tiny flaw is that it is total BS,but it does sound really, really good.

  30. If this was an actual carbon tax, then consumption, not production would be taxed. That would make the most sense because it would be closer to revenue neutral (look at BC Plan.
It isn’t- it gives very little to fund the externality (oil bad, must find alternative fuel), instead we get a regionally skewed, distortionary tax and spend policy, introduced when powerful inflationary forces are reawakening, compounded further by some cost of implementation.
Does this sound like a good policy? IMO the theory is somewhat suspect because of inevitable compromise by government, but this is just plain bad implementation.
    This dog can’t hunt.

  31. They say that you can judge a person by the company they keep. If that is true then Garth Turner has been hanging around the loony bin again.

  32. Doan forgedt da wit, da pipples of Sas cat chew on hab more wit dan all da pipples of Keebec an Ont hair ee o.

  33. Aha,chinese math,I don’t quite understand it. Using your figures we export twice as much as we import,2.3 -1.2. So we are a exporting country. We use 2.3 and import 1,2,so we import more than half our oil,so we are an importing country. We produce 3.1,consume 2.3,yet still export 2.3,so we are a pretty slick country.Yet,we produce 3.1,import 1.2,for a total of 4.3,and then we consume 2.3,export 2.3 for a total of 4.6,so at the end of the day we can put 300,000 barrels back into the ground ! I need another drink.

  34. Yes,it all makes sense now. My above calculations prove that Saskatchewan’s rapidly improving economy is due to the surplus oil from Alberta being pumped into the ground and leeching over the border. Take a look at the map,the reserves are all next to the border. Aha,you can’t argue those facts.

  35. I looked at the comments at Garth’s blog. Wow. I guess sometimes I forget most people believe that CO2 is pollution. The left seems to love this plan.

  36. I took a peek at Garth’s blog also. The feeling I get is that most of his supporters are arguing that a carbon tax is a great thing, clean the enviroment, tax the polluters,Harper is Bush, etc. No one seems to comprehend the fact that Dion’s shift takes money from the producers and consumers of energy and puts it into places that will do nothing for the enviroment, except that we will all be poorer and stay home in our colder houses a lot more.It is to be expected. Look for Dion and garth to be judging a cbc version of “Dancing with the Stars” in about 5 years.

  37. Kate, you’re an idiot. Most of those commodities you listed are prohibited from dual pricing by our free trade agreements. Even if we have more coal, more oil, more natural gas than most, we can’t sell it to ourselves below market rates.
To you and the dolt that called for one price for the west and another for the rest, are you saying you’re not a proponent of free trade?!? Gee I guess not. Venezuela shares your logic too I believe. Please go back to school.
Also, while vehicles are obviously a contributor, Toronto is full of smog in part to geography, climate, and pollution from places like Detroit and other major centers in the region. Again, please go back to school. The internet is not a substitute for higher education.
And if I may be so bold to ask… What is psychologically wrong with people like yourself that need to continuously belch and be receive praise day in and day out? Why are you so angry? What kind of void is missing in your life? I heard you on the radio awhile back with some conservative dudes..forget their names..two guys..anyway it sounded like you were positively popping a vein in your forehead when these guys happened to say something you disagreed with. You try and present this non challant laid back attitude, as if nothing gets to you, but I can tell that it does. I can tell that you’re flipping out in angry fits when you write half the stuff you do. You have issues, Kate. Seek help. This blog isn’t healthy for you.

  38. Holy shite
It appears that we have a long distance psychologist online tonight! The assumptions are awesome, the audacity is breathtaking and the crapulence is beyond reproach.
    Good stuff.
    Syncro
p.s. you just can’t make this shite up.

  39. My word. Talking about issues Roger, haven’t you gone a little off you’re rocker here?

  40. “…then how come Toronto has all of the smog?”
In today’s Brave New World smog is not pollution, neither is radioactive waste, tailing ponds, or littering. The only pollution that exists in the world today is carbon dioxide, at least according to NewThink.
Canadian newspapers are reporting that Alberta and Saskatchewan are the highest “polluting” provinces; while they may be the highest CO2 emitting provinces there is no way Saskatchewan can possibly be as big a polluter as Ontario or Quebec or BC – unless you completely re-invent the meaning of the word pollution to mean CO2 and only CO2.
I’m hardly a treehugger but I don’t like the fact that every single other environmental issue has taken a back seat to AGW. The thing is curious. As others have noted, they have taken an issue upon which everyone can agree – a healthy environment – and managed to manufacture a perfectly divisive issue. I’ve seen this movie before and it is called gay marriage; the plot revolves around a populace obsessed with a single minor issue while much bigger issues, such as free speech, are neglected until it is too late.
