NICE!!! I haven’t been there in a number of years, but it looks pretty much the same. That tavern opened in 1876 (I remember that because it was the same year George Armstrong Custer departed courtesy of the Sioux). I just found the whole place interesting (especially going down nearly 50 feet into the stone cellars to eat dinner).
I assume that when you told them you wanted to grab some photos, they were more than happy to oblige. That area is pretty conservative and salt of the Earth types.
Thank you for this travel tip! This was seriously one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever been to. They had zero problems with me wandering around. At every turn, there a staircase here and a hallway there. I read that it’s a very haunted place. This would not surprise me at all!
Very cool. I need to see more of PA, stomping grounds of many of my German Americans.
wow, that place is beautiful
This looks like a terrific place to enjoy a couple beers and dinner.
Looks like fun, for sure.
I wonder how many tourists they get just because of the unique nature of the place?
Photo # 10 is the restaurant that’s about 40 feet or so underground (and where they used to have the Prohibition Era parties).
Wow, that’s an impressive set of Bubes!
