I used to snow board on Huston mountain during mid summer excursions to Texas.
GYM used to blow hard on any mountain, any season, any state.
Om nom nom.
The Jamaican bobsled team trained there!!
And all the skiing scenes in James Bond movies were filmed there.

I guess someone figured that if Houston did have mountains, they would be dry and barren of trees like in western Texas. In truth the climate is rather soggy.
I have relatives down in that area, and everytime I visit we have a running joke. Someone in the car will bolt upright, point and say, “LOOK, there’s a hill over there!!!” And, it’s always followed by displayed dejection, and a mumbling of…. (sigh) ” Nevermind, it’s just an off ramp.”
Some nice “mountains” in West Texas…but no where near Houston.
Come on now … you’ve all heard about the treasure of the Sierra Madre.
