Master Negotiator Rides Again

National Post- Carney to visit China to talk trade with Xi

It will be the first trip to China by a Canadian prime minister in nearly a decade, after a diplomatic row was sparked by Canada’s 2018 arrest of Huawei Technologies Co. executive Meng Wanzhou on a US extradition warrant. Shortly after, China detained two Canadians, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, and held them until a deal to release Meng was reached with US prosecutors in 2021.

  1. Mark Carney’s off to Paris and then China. BC’s David Eby is off on a ‘trade mission’ to India. Funny how when some politicians want to look like they’re doing something, they hop on a plane to a foreign country. How many of these junkets result in solid deals that put money back into taxpayers’ pockets?

    1. Hard to tell. But I’m sure Carnage is awfully excited and giddy with glee. He finally is going to sit face-first in Xi’s lap.

      1. Xi humiliated Blackie. Now it’s Brookfield Boy’s turn.
Too bad Katie Telford won’t be there to shake her snake head.
What happened to her by the by?

      2. Seems there is no guarantee that he will meet with Xi rather he may have to be content just meeting with Xi’s lessers.
Sure hope he can get Xi to maybe build some roads or pipelines eh!!

    2. And I read today that Scott Moe is “glad” that Carney is going to China.
I am not an expert on trade, but I get that Moe wants to sell canola and potash and whatnot.
But I don’t like this turn to go away from the US market and expand the China market shite.
Why give China more leverage in Canada?
As for Eby going to India….Ha ha ha. What? Is he going to apologize to Modi for harbouring all those Kalistani guys?

  2. Predictable. China has been making an aggressive effort to establish trade partnerships with those countries with Arctic claims. They’ve done so with Russia, the Nordic nations, Greenland, Iceland…and Canada is next on the list. China has no legal claim to the Arctic resources, but that didn’t stop them from making up a completely nonsensical title of “Near Arctic State” to telegraph their intentions.

Currently, countries like Norway are realizing that they let China integrate into their economy too completely, and are now worried that they have become too dependent on China (which is exactly what China wants). It gives China control and leverage to bargain out Norway’s claim on the Arctic in the future.

The Chinese fishing fleets should give you some indication of how China does business in that regard. They rarely ask permission. And, Canada is in no position militarily to repel an aggressive Chinese move into the Canadian held Arctic. Making Canada reliant on Chinese goods would make it all the more difficult to counter such a move.

    1. I thought since Global Warming has melted all the Arctic ice … that the ChiCom fleet can all steam everywhere across the Arctic Circle. And Canada sure ain’t gonna defend what they claim to own. Welcome ChiComs! We’ll load your Canola in Hudson’s Bay.

    2. China often violates Article 119 of UNCLOS, and no one does anything, or in the case of the flaccid power enthusiasts, they don’t say a word.

      1. You are correct. Some countries didn’t take too kindly to it, however. Milei (Argentina) sent his Navy out after them when they entered Argentinian waters trying to lure giant squid to the surface with bright lights and a Coast Guard ship sank a few fishing boats before they got the message.

  3. Now is the correct time to sound the alarm regarding Alberta’s oil. Carney will guarantee oil to China in exchange for piddling canola purchases. Alberta’s oil and therefore Alberta will be ensnared by Ottawa. It must suck knowing that your economic future is in the hands of a fool like Carney.
And yes, Venezuelan oil will replace Canadian oil. Not via Trump, via Carney.
China will hoard oil, and manipulate the market the same way they do with Canola. It seems the 4 year canola cycle has gone unnoticed. Well, oil has no shelf life per say so… I imagine the tank farms will look nice.
Be prepared to harold a great success!!!

  4. I hope the Carney is up to the 1000 yard belly crawl required of him before he gets to kiss Xis toes.

  5. We have as $60 billion trade deficit with the Chicoms.
I’m sure Carnage can up that if not double it.

  6. Canadian Media “Carney is seeking to double non USA exports”.
They report this with great gravitas,or their version there of.
Numerical Illiteracy, its the Can Ahh Duh way.
The West is leaving, because the fools and bandits have sought to kill the golden goose, with great success.
“Better to rule in a Hell, than share wealth in a Paradise”,this is the Liberal way.

Contemplate what might have been, before federal efforts to crush the West, pre NEP.
We could have been amongst the richest and freest nations on Earth, but no,that would have resulted in a much richer West and a “power shift” in Can Ahh Duh..

Any reluctance to sign up for separation is moot, for we are already suffering the State of Thuggery.
We are living the consequences of a greedy, arrogant worms being allowed to exert power without responsibility.
The actions of Can Ahh Duh’s Parliament speak for them.
