The Conservative Senators, who had successfully held up the bill for more than a year I think, boycotted the vote in anger over that move. They’d have lost the vote anyway from the sounds of it.
So instead of “in all thy sons command” we’re now officially stuck with the lame sounding “in all of us command”. Bad enough that the Liberals leveraged a dying man to ram it through the House, bad enough that when Harper floated the idea it got universally panned and then all the pundits miraculously flip-flopped when it became a Liberal idea, bad enough that nobody in Canada really asked for this and the Liberals certainly never campaigned on it, but couldn’t they at least have freaking gone back to “thou dost in us command” if they really had to delete “sons”? The new line has no poetry to it at all.
