Stephen Green: Trump Just Gave the Finger (Again!) to the Space Establishment
Space fans, rejoice — President Donald Trump just brought back the one man who might actually save NASA. Here’s the best news since last May, when Trump withdrew his nomination of astronaut/billionaire Jared Isaacman to head up NASA: Trump nominated him again. […]
Long story short, Athena was Isaacman’s plan for cutting costs at NASA and restoring the agency’s “mission-first” culture — and getting us back to the Moon, at a price we can afford and before China does. Needless to say, Athena involved upsetting an awful lot of well-anchored apple carts and taking way some gold-plated iron rice bowls.

way back when peepull ignored me like happens these days l continued to shoot holes in the shuttle program, make the crew and payload SEPARATE vehicles so any ‘rescue’ doesnt included inconvenient TONS of payload and related eqpt.
but nooooooo, they gotta kill 14 of them to realize l am right.
What purpose is there in going to the moon? It’s a massive expense and the US simply can’t afford it. They need to cut a $trillion from their spending to break even, and then they’ll still have a $40 trillion debt to pay off.
“What purpose is there in going to the moon? ”
Scientific advancement. The list of spin-offs from earlier space programs is impressive, to say the least.
Cut the federal budget by NASA’s line item and lower corporate taxes commensurately.
I’ll never understand why soi-disant conservatives will accept any amount of central planning and government waste as long as you strap a solid fuel booster to it.
The only reason to go to the Moon now is the same reason as in 1969: military supremacy. Space is the ultimate high ground. But let’s be honest about that and focus our attention appropriately.
And perhaps also nearly as important… this was Elon Musk’s choice to head NASA, before he was kneecapped by the remnant deep-staters infecting the Trump Admin. Say what you want about him … but I trust Musk more than I trust the entrenched NASA bureaucrats who have been primarily focused on “proving” man-made global warming for the last 30 years.
According to reports, it costs NASA $70,000 per pound to put a payload in space. Musk does it for $2,700 – a factor of 26 times!
Case closed.
Can’t wait for Starlink to offer cellphone service at €10/m like we get in Spain. Bell Ca is 4x more for 100GB/m.
