I thought our new PM was just the guy we needed to stand up to the Americans. Oh, well…..
American truck maker Paccar Inc. is laying off 300 more factory workers in Quebec ahead of a 25 per cent import tariff to be imposed by the U.S. next month.
The factory in Sainte-Thérèse, a Montreal suburb, manufactures Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks and relies heavily on revenue from the United States.
Quick, quick Premiere Ministres Legault et bobblehead! Call in TVA and SRC and pour out a bottle of Paccar!
Or, then again, maybe Julie Dabrusin will declare a victory. Dirty diesels you know.
You might want to add this one to the ever growing list:
Canadian shipbuilder Davie is expanding into Texas by acquiring Gulf Copper & Manufacturing Corp.’s facilities in Galveston and Port Arthur to build icebreakers and complex ships. The company plans to invest $1 billion in the Texas yards to create what it calls the “American Icebreaker Factory” and has stated that it is making a long-term commitment to American shipbuilding.
Taking bets on how long it takes for a professional sports team called the “Texas Icebreakers”.
What competitive advantages over the US does Canaduh possess? In reality, probably very few. US economies of scale will probably always win. Our real advantages are as diggers of dirt, hewers of wood, drawers of water and growers of food. If we don’t focus on those then the only real alternative is Cuba with snow.
The only real advantage is our 71 cent dollar.
And even that is not working anymore.
Woo Hoo! More energy for the AI data centers! We’re all experts now!
Getting what they (inadvertently) voted for. Without lube. As Marx intended.
Think they give a shit about western Canada or Ontariowe?
