National Post- Plan to fence off Nanaimo, B.C., city hall to protect from overdose site disorder
Staff proposing the $412,000 fence cite “intimidation and harassment” of employees, particularly those working early or late, as well as damage to staff vehicles, fires near doorways and building perimeters, human waste, and a general deterioration of the site.

I grew up on the Island (Duncan) and back in the 70’s Nanaimo was the drugee capital, even then. Only real solution – fence off the Nanaimo City Hall to protect the citizens of the City from the brain dead, wokee’s inside City Hall.
Why not shut the overdose site? Win-win!
“installing fencing around a civic facility may be perceived by some members of the public as a symbol of exclusion, especially in the context of visible homelessness and public disorder in surrounding areas.”

Is this a parody? Because, this seems like a parody. Let’s start slow. What is the definition of a fence?
FENCE—a barrier, railing, or other upright structure, typically of wood or wire, enclosing an area of ground to mark a boundary, control access.
There you go. A fence is, not only, a symbol of exclusion. It is outright enforcement of exclusion. It is a boundary. And, in this particular case, it would appear to be a necessary and long overdue boundary. At the same time visitors to the “Overdose prevention site” have every right to visit the town hall just like every other resident. HOWEVER, there are behavioral rules and regulations installed into the by-laws of that municipality that dictate what cannot be done within the walls of a civic center.
So, while general exclusion is taking place on a purely situational basis, it does not negate the rights of any resident to conduct business within the Town Hall provided they follow the rules on visitation. I’m pretty sure starting fires, purposeful vandalism and verbal/physical harassment are not valid reasons for visiting a Town Hall.
So rather than simply police a handful of mentally ill, homeless drug addicts, they’re going to inconvenience the residents of an entire city and anyone else who’s visiting?
Sounds like they’re taking lessons from the folks who govern Seattle & San Francisco…
Go easy on the enlightened stewards of Nanaimo,
They, at least, have agreed to build a “robust, decorative, wrought iron fence” even taller than normal to protect their servile, municipal nepo minions.
How neo feudal can you get?
As for the plebs outside the gates, well, sharpen your pitchforks, lock up your daughters, but pay your taxes. for you be on your own….and you voted for it.
Nanaimo also has a fenced area for tweekers and zombies.
Shithole.
But, but, but … shouldn’t we be building “bridges” instead of walls? That’s what the “enlightened” progressives said about “Trump’s Wall” on our southern border.

The Nanaimo voters are getting what they voted for, good and hard.
I hope their hemorrhoids bleed for years.
Was it not Robert Frost who said, “Good fences make good neighbours”? Or maybe it was Robert Frost’s neighbours, saying, “Good fences make hard Frosts…”
