As we watch events unfold, let’s go over some clear patterns in how Trump does things back to Trump I and is continuing these patterns. Today’s lesson is on leverage.
This is good.
As is this;
You could actually feel the “eye rolls” in DC when Trump, out of blue, said that the Gulf of Mexico is now the Gulf of America. Some would assume that it was an ego thing. It wasn’t. It was a simple method of establishing standing and leverage. Another misassumption was that the change was a message to Mexico. It was. But, more importantly, it was a message to the rest of the world. America First, wasn’t just a campaign slogan. It is Trump’s way of governance. Every leader across the globe sat up and paid attention to that seemingly esoteric move. It has been the Gulf of Mexico for 400 years. In less than a week map companies, tech companies, airlines etc. were all making the change. Such an immediate response in the annals of bureaucratic government are “impossible” and unheard of. And yet… Every single government leader across the globe cringed and realized the changes sought and wrought by the Trump Administration wouldn’t be a long drawn out process. They wouldn’t have time to delay, stall, and drag out any changes with which they disagreed. They could either cooperate or feel the immediate repercussions. That, in its own right, is a created leverage that scares the hell out of most politicians. Change is scary enough for most. But, immediate change is a nightmare.

I touched on this previously in a number of posts I’ve made on this site. Negotiation is very much a living animal which doesn’t exist in a vacuum. One recurring theme with Trump is that wasting leverage is a negative to be avoided at all costs. If you have it…use it. It’s right there in black and white under point #5 of “The Art of the Deal.”

L- Precisely, also,, the more authouritarian the personality, the more afraid they are of losing control, of unpredictability. Trump understands human nature. He has New York street smarts.
If hostile aliens show up here. Hope, that D.J. Trump is there to size them up and is in charge of the negotiations. Oh right, most every western country has that problem, now
“Art of the deal”
Liberals are now polling higher than Cinservatives thanks to Trumps tariff stupidity.
So? I don’t think DJT gives two figs about your feelings. Or the feelings of any Canadian. Why should he?
Let’s see how Canada operates on a $0.50 dollar, when you have outsourced so much of your manufacturing and production globally. Sure, you can sell your stuff competitively. But you ain’t digging it out of the ground competitively. All your heavy machinery and equipment, your tech, … all foreign made.
Once the tariffs push you to 10% unemployment, collapse of your taxbase and healthcare system, housing market meltdown, and exploding fentanyl crisis takes hold, an offer of USD at par, plus cutting your taxes and putting you back to work in exchange for Statehood, is going to look pretty damned good.
You’re beyond delusional and have zero understanding of how lobotomized Canadian electorate is. Besides absorbing Canada to US would mean a lot more democrat voters than republican voters and millions of turd world enrichers that hate you rabidly. It would be a most self defeating move you could conceive… which given Trump’s record re Bananada so far, is not that impossible.
TOTALLY AGREE………..I am ready for the 51st State…………and Governor Danielle Smith
Yeah, then Canada becomes a state and the US is saddled with 40 million more dems. Smooth move bright spark.
It wouldn’t be all of Canada. Just SK, AB, and possibly a good chunk of BC’s interior.
Ontario and Quebec, can FOAD. As for the Maritimes, they’d have to make a pretty significant decision which way they want to go, if the US would have them. The US might be interested in NL’s off-shore energy. I can see how unfair confederation is to NL wrt to Quebec, the leech of the country.
Most (more than 50 percent) of the people in Alberta live in Edmonton and Calgary who regularly elect whack job leftist mayors. Not too long ago Alberta had an NDP premier. Albertans aren’t as different from the rest of Canada as some of them like to think. If that was the case, they would have separated already.
As a Calgarian, I would put a large asterix next to those comments. Before Nenshi the Hutt, voting irregularities were unheard of. I maintain that a majority of Calgarians did NOT vote for Nenshi, let alone three times.
And a majority of Albertans did NOT vote for Red Rachel’s commies. Instead CINO Jesuit Jason Kenney paid off foolish Wildrose politicians despite their party having more support than Kenney’s fake conservatives. That act split the conservative vote between the actual and the fake controlled-opposition conservative parties, allowing the commies to come up the middle.
Alberta is still majority conservative and has always been so. Take away socialist funding from Ottawa and the recent immigrant “Albertans” will leave in droves, further cementing the province as a solid conservative state. Leaving the commies with the usual minority support from self-serving public sector unions.
I don’t have to wait for all that. Statehood is looking pretty good to me already!
It is not merely tariffs, it is the constant 51st state bullshit. How the Molson commercial crowd would reacts, with Pavlovian instinct, was entirely predictable, and all that idiot had to do was keep his mouth shut until Librano collapse. We went from more than 25% lead to near parity all because Trump helped Potato and Dougie decided to jump in and steal the wind from Conservative sails.
I know who is delusional. The person blaming Trump and not the idiot Canadian voters. Every person who voted to destroy their own country because Trump trolled them, is responsible if the Liberals win, not Trump.
“The person blaming Trump and not the idiot Canadian voters.”

False dichotomy and a primitive one at that.
All he needed to do was shut up. Instead he mobilized the lobotomized and sabotaged his political ally. To what end?
Liberals win. Canada collapses. America’s hat!
No use waiting around…
… meanwhile, back in the real world…
Canada hasn’t been a political ally of the US for a good many years now; Team Canada is doing nothing to reverse that.
Trump has “stuff” on Castreau, Carney, Perogie and most likely PP.
The lack of respect Trump has for JT is monumental. JT was ushered in to Mara Lago via back doors, halls and servant’s passages, not thru the Front Door like every other dignified guest whom he summoned.
Trump knows JT went to Epstein Island, not just for a sunny vacation either.
The Laurentian Elite are all in on the game, they chose JT for their representative, not for his acumen, but for the illusion of brand recognition and ability to use his filthy past as a donkey’s bridle to control the narrative.
In the PC and DEI culture that was predominant during JT tenure, he was able to survive Blackface, child r@pe/seXual interference with a minor, just to name a few, and was left standing, unlike many politicians who were sent packing. Why was that? A strong delusion over the electorate, unable to see the truth and properly discern and process correctly.
If voting was able to be manipulated and forced on the People of America, how much more so on the sheeple of Canuckist@n?
Trump is allowing the spotlight to build up the wattage here north of the 49th so the bleach can be applied in its proper strength and placement.
It will horrify the world.

You adequately demonstrated your political ignorance with yer whining about Max,now STFU and go back to poland, they have some villages over there that need an IDIOT.
While this is true, if Trump wanted good relations with Canada, he went about it the wrong way. Now we’ll build a pipeline to the Pacific to sell all the oil in Asia to the detriment of the US and we’ll get Chinese companies to develop our natural resources and they will all be sold in Asia instead of to Americans.
Instead of having a friendlyish nation to the north they’ll have a Chinese colony to the north. I suppose it will save them the effort of having to go all the way to Taiwan to fight the Chinese.
I’m not blaming Trump for the rise in the polls for the Liebs. Trump doesn’t really care about the repercussions in Canada. He is, after all, working for American interests, not Canada’s.
Still, we have to acknowledge that Trump’s rhetoric is at least partly responsible for the Liebs recent success. Having said that, I blame the media for not telling the whole truth, and taking part in the galvanization of so-called fake “Canadian patriotism,” and the gullible and ignorant Canuckistanians who show no interest in finding out the truth for themselves.
As an aside… I wish I could respond directly to GYM’s diatribe, but there’s no “reply” link. Well, I think that’s a step in the right direction.
AllanS and his ilk persist in thinking that they are intellectually superior to Donald Trump and that they understand his strategy and tactics. One of the Donald’s superpowers is to make idiot opponents underestimate his ability.
He is off to a great start on being a transformational president. He has forced the hapless Democrats to take the losing side on a series of 80-20 arguments – border policy, deporting illegals, getting trans people out of girls’ locker rooms and sports.
Getting RFK Jr on board to address chronic disease and the abuses in the medical system may be a pivotal moment. Patel and Bongino will clean up the FBI. Peace may be braking out in the Ukraine and Middle East. The democrats are floundering without leadership or ideas.
After a month in office, the orange moron and his remarkable team are making progress on a multitude of fronts while AllanS and his ilks sit helplessly whining on the sidelines.
No, he hasn’t yet solved the deficit, cost of living and inflation. The deep state will continue to be a challenge – but four weeks in, not bad!
Or this from 338.com.
CPC: 177 seats
Lieberals: 120
BQ: 33
NDP: 11
Wouldn’t trust anything coming out of Global TV.
Yeah, that stupid Trump. Why, the other day he stepped on a bug! Perfectly valuable bug. Just stepped on it! God, what a dummy.
What a bunch of bullshit
The Lone Ranger and Tonto.
Predictably unpredictable. I believe he has cracked the code.
Mike Pence was not sufficiently intelligent to understand this. JD Vance, however, plays it for all its worth.
Why does Trump treat Zelensky like shit? Remember when Trump asked Zelensky for help in tracking down Biden corruption and got impeached in return? That likely explains it.
Yes, it is ,partly at least, a personal vendetta. Having said that, Zelensky is tone deaf and has been making absurd political and personals decisions more or less since the time he fired Zaluzny.
Since the Skyy quit playing piano with his One and Only Jessica….erm DICK.
gym’s hate is starting to affect his mental capacities. He outdid himself with his own deliberate incoherence.
Thanks Orson.
This:
“One recurring theme with Trump is that wasting leverage is a negative to be avoided at all costs. If you have it…use it. It’s right there in black and white under point #5 of “The Art of the Deal.””
This is the best explanation for “Why is Orange Man “picking on” Canada”?
What started as Trolling a truly despised and departing Government, our first officially gay feminist Prime Minister has opened up some amazing opportunities, for the USA and Western Canada.
Long term ?
Fortress North America is possible.
And Canada is weak.
Weak beyond even the most cynical imagination.
President Trump has stated the obvious.
Any land this weak and disinterested in its own survival is both a threat to the neighbours and an opportunity beyond belief.
Being a man of business,President Trump terrifies career politicians.
And his eye for people and for a deal defies their comprehension.
I think even Trump was amazed by the insanity, that arrogant Ignorance of Ottawa..each “Nasty Tweet” has provoked the most asinine posturing and revealed unsuspected weaknesses.
And the residents of Can Ahh Duh?
Attack the messenger.
Most seem unable to process the facts.
Trump did not destroy our economy.
Trump did not inflate our dollars
Trump did not surrender us to Chinese administration, for little else could explain the wilful blindness.
We allowed successive federal governments to bring us to now.
Trump merely and “Most rudely” pointed out how naked ,useless and greedy we have become.
This conversation ,between the host and the parasite began 8 years ago.
Canadians,Liberal Voters threw a tantrum when asked to correct the failure to keep their military commitments.
So Trump knows what he is dealing with.
Now he also knows what every conservative in Canada knows.
There are no adults waiting in the wings.
Just more attention whores.
From outside Canada is shattered.
From inside we are still breaking apart.
From Ottawa we are status quo, thanks for the taxes, let us add more.
And from the Liberal Party?
“Shut up morons, our leadership selection is so much more important than dealing with Canada’s Business!”
Excellent summary, John. Thanks.

Chinanada is an existentialist threat to the USA.
Trump treats the Skyy, TurD’Ho, and Macaroni just as they should be treated.
It’s spelled “Chinada,” and I wouldn’t call it an “existential threat.” It isn’t significant enough to be a threat to any country, least of all the US.
Chinada can easily be wiped out if the US wanted to, if not militarily, then economically.
Once Chinada exposes itself as weak and porous, the Americans will have no choice but to take drastic measures, and I, for one, can’t wait to see Americans take charge of this unicorn, bubblegum and lollypop of a country.
F. Scott FitzGerald had an extremely threatening cousin named X. Istential FitzGerald.
