Help Find Canada’s Worst Censorship Bylaw

A Canadian Constitution Foundation project.

While we at the Canadian Constitution Foundation are grateful for the attention our big federal and provincial cases often get, we’ve become increasingly worried in recent years about just how much local governments are stepping outside of their bounds to bully Canadians.

Not only are more and more municipalities keen on regulating things outside of what local governments are supposed to, they seem egregiously unaware that the constitution applies to them too.

One trend we’re seeing is municipal governments—both big and small—censoring Canadians using bylaws and policies to regulate speech on public property, codes of conduct used to silence council members, and other bylaws that violate freedom of speech, the freedom of assembly, and the division of powers.

      1. L- “What to do about it?” Fight, Fight, Fight! by asserting and exercising the Right of
Freedom of Speech, as applicable to all levels of government. Let them know that there
are citizens ready, willing and able to defend their Constitutional Rights.

When the Supremes rejected the application to hear Prof. Jordan Peterson’s defence of
his Right to Freedom of Speech. Thus, in effect, the estimated 20% of Canadians, who
        profession or trade is regulated by an appointed quasi-judicial college or regulatory body;
they no longer have that right. The Soviet/Maoist/Post-Modernist reinterpretation of the
        Charter is implied.

Without Freedom of Speech, Canada is moribund, with only Wexit holding a chance for even a part of Canada surviving, as free and Democratic society. The Cult. Marxists target
the foundations of British Common-Law, including the Magna Carta.

The Supremes only fear is “bring the administration of Justice into disrepute” by causing
a break up of Canada or even a free and open discussion on free speech rights. Now
that the legacy media no longer has a monopoly and X has broken the stranglehold
that corrupt governments had over Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Courageous citizens
        can access the public space.

  1. Videos trending on YouTube lately are American 1A/4A “Testers”… filming in public places like Post Offices…Police dept. parking lots, municipal buildings even sidewalks. Some are amusing others not so much. More often than not police supervisors are called to calm down deputies who think they have some weird police state powers to demand your ID whenever they feel like it.
And it’s absolutely laughable how municipal employees think their rules regarding filming and entry somehow trumps the Constitution.

That said – Haven’t seen too much Canadiana Constitutionalist videographers… probably because they know they’ll likely be beaten like seal pups by the Canadian Stasi.

    1. Some guy with a channel Alberta Rights Media has been trying to provoke the cops in Chestermere. Hilarious interaction. Acts suspicious, which generates a 911 call. Cops respond, ask for ID and insurance (sitting in a car). Why? For acting suspicious. Is that a misdemeanour or a felony? Neither, you’re in Canada dummy. Am I sweetheart? What can I do for you, cupcake? It goes downhill from there.

  2. Universities and schools funded by government should be next, they invite woke socialists to speak and assault any speaker who is not a woke liberal racist. All with the blessings of the administration and faculty.

  3. It’s a totally predictable by-product. The example is being set in Ottawa. When you arrest a peaceful protest, abscond their life savings, arrest and harass perceived leaders while simultaneously having a captive press regurgitate your talking points as if fact; Of course the local governments are going to follow suit.

Local government officials are far from innovative. It’s more of a game of “Monkey see, Monkey do.” Many have an ambition to elevate to higher office. They’re going to emulate the people sitting there now. On a positive note, if you are fortunate enough to install a Federal government that does many of the right things. That trickles down too.

I dunno. I think this is a pretty target-rich environment.

  5. Emo Ontario comes to mind.

Being polite, well mannered, etc., will not be a part of the solution to deal with authority imagining that it is god.

In the same breath, we all must become honey badgers when they try to step on our Rights.

Perhaps more cohesion on our parts.

Thanks to Kate for posting this subject.

  6. When everyone comes to the realization that the biggest terrorists organization in Canada is the government of Canada we might start the healing process.
I think that there is at least 20 times more people in government than is needed.
Government should only be there to do collectively what we cannot do indivdually.

    1. We can start the healing process when the malignant lump is removed.

I’m sure you can all guess what the growth would be.
