A total 880 Canada Revenue Agency employees fraudulently claimed pandemic relief cheques, the highest figure disclosed to date, Revenue Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau said yesterday. It followed claims by an Agency executive that “not very many” employees were cheats: “We have a zero tolerance policy for fraud.”
Wouldn’t be awesome if Canada would be able to sub-contract federal gov/admin (including tax) to Trump Team?

Hold your horses, Team Trump hasn’t done anything yet. It remains to be seen how much waste elimination they’ll be able to do.
While I hope they are very successful, the resistance from the left will be like nothing you’ve ever seen.

The problem is that government employs so many people that cuts at the level that must happen if the economy is be sustained at all will have a devastating short-term effect. Eventually all that economic activity being returned to the private sector will raise things even higher than they were before the cuts, but getting there is going to be rough.
I think at this point government employees have beclowned themselves so much, and discarded the mask covering their contempt for the people they serve so often, that they’re not going to get any sympathy. Those sob stories are going to be met by a lot of people saying “LOL learn to code”.

I agree cuts must happen. My point is the left wing fallout will be unlike anything we’ve seen.
The alternative? Massive spending and the economy eventually collapses.
Then let the “left wing fallout” happen and deal with it accordingly. Thatcher did that. Much of it will evaporate when the left wingers lose their cushy government “jobs”.
My sense is that MAGA-hat-wearing Trump supporters are tired of playing the sheep. They’re more like lions now. They have a sense of patriotism. This is about saving their country. There is NO faction more militant than patriots when it comes to the love of their country. The left will discover that even their mighty machine may have bitten off more than they could chew.

I guess Canada is at the point in our banana republic status that low level public employees see that stealing taxpayer’s money through fraud is not investigated or punished at the top bureaucratic level or at the government cabinet level so they might as well steal too. The only people who get investigated and punished by the Trudeau government and police are the whistleblowers who reveal fraud and mismanagement.

I’ve had the distinct displeasure of dealing with some of these folks over the phone…& more often than Not I’m dealing with some E Asian foreigner… the arrogance dripping from every syllable they spew
I owe em some coin & have decided said coin is needed for MY survival, particularly given I’ve sought employment for over 13 mo. 250+ applications/resume’s sent….Nary a reply. Pretty sure LMIA is a BIG reason (over 800 Companies in Calgary alone “on the take”)

Now I am going to ask a rhetorical, and blatantly racist question, but under the current environment, perfectly legitimate to ask:
How many of those 800+ individuals working for the CRA who thought they could get away with blatant fraud were immigrants?

How many of those were ILLEGAL immigrants?

Most companies and gov’t departments have call centre folks who work from home. All have unintelligible heavy accents and children playing in the background and are unable to help as they do not have enough training/information to advise people. CRA probably has 60% working from home.
Ditto BC Hydro, banks, media, regulators, city staff, provincial governments, many stores, marketers, estimators, consultants, some realtors etc.
Even private sector professionals got illegal COVID payments. Most will never be caught.
We do not need to pay for “transfer payments”. Or private planes for Justine

You cannot convince me that the US was scammed out of nearly $200 billion in COVID relief payments without insider information facilitating that theft. Every single employee of every financial Dept. in government must be subject to random, regular “lifestyle audits” … real anal-probe level audits to determine if their “side gig” is to help outsiders STEAL from the taxpayers. Period.
