Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced a new pronoun disclosure policy for schools on Wednesday, in addition to other restrictions on transgender treatments and sports.
The pronoun policy announcement, which was hinted at in a radio broadcast last weekend, is likely to ignite debate in Alberta, as it did in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick.
Alberta’s new policies go beyond recent moves in other provinces. In a seven-minute video posted to X on Wednesday afternoon, Smith said the province is banning medical treatments for some transgender minors, creating biological female-only sports leagues and will require parental consent to attend sexual education in schools.
Smith announced government policies after resolutions on gender and sexuality were brought forward by the United Conservative Party caucus at its annual general meeting last November.

I think setting age requirements for children seeking irreversible medical procedures that can result in sterility and lifelong risks of serious physical and mental health complications makes sense. Several countries in Europe have come to similar conclusions after reviewing the risks to children who have underwent hormone therapy and gender reassignment surgery. I haven’t heard any arguments from proponents of child gender transition that have not been refuted by up-to-date data and research.
Given the other mental health issues that are associated with kids/teens who have gender identity issues, providing counseling to help them figure out their thoughts and feelings before radical medical interventions is the correct path. Parents, as legal guardians, should be fully included and informed during this process.
I haven’t heard any really good arguments from child gender reassignment proponents that aren’t speculative and emotionally manipulative. The usual response from them is parents are probably abusive and the kids might harm themselves.
Except in extremely rare cases, kids/teens who have gender identity issues have been brainwashed into that state. To then mutilate their bodies, sterilize and otherwise ruin their lives is the stuff of horror shows. People talk about how awful the eugenics movement of the ’30s was, this is orders of magnitude worse.
Yes, I think kids are being talked into gender reassignment in many cases. Social media, activists and corporate intersts are pushing it is a cure for young people whose have various mental health issues, social acceptance problems and sexual identity angst.
I see it as the modern day equivalent of lobotomies, which were prescribed to cure mental illness, behavior problems and homosexuality. Parents and professionals were convinced that a lobotomy was an effective cure despite the obvious damage it caused to the patient.

I agree. Women-only sports combined with an open, gender mixed category is the best option for fairness and safety. In the same way we have age restricted categories in sports for fairness and safety. We don’t allow a rugby/basketball/soccer/hockey team of 16 year old kids compete in a league meant for 8 year old kids because we know what will happen to the smaller kids.

The result is what we see today, where the scum of the earth hold the reigns of power, and where the people are virtually helpless to do anything about it other than complain.

They “hate” children, but above all, they hate innocence. They cannot abide children living carefree without the burdens of adult angst. Because they are or have been hyper sexualized they have tunnel vision. They cannot conceive of people who have not been hyper sexualized or abused. To be fair, a lot of these people fall for the mindless bandwagon effect.
I have a hypothesis that those who are the most hystrionic in advancing this agenda come from families or cultures where the exploitation of children is the norm.

I liked that Smith didn’t make it an Us versus Them issue, especially regarding teenagers and kids. Adults with strong political and religious opinions forget about the confused young person dealing with complicated thoughts and feelings about themselves. The world has gone crazy and young people are getting caught up in the madness more deeply than mature, self-confident adults.
Would that she used stronger language such as “mental illness” and “Marxist agenda” to watch NDP heads explode but judging from a few of the replies it wasn’t needed.

As the op-ed in the Epoch Times points out: it’s a good start that will not wholly satisfy hard-core anti-wokists OR ideological gender activists and alphabet people. When a country is still a long way from collapse (in the eyes of the insufficiently informed) incrementalism is the only viable strategy. Reflect: Trudescu did not talk about his radical agenda in the 2015 election and unveiled his disaster upon disaster policy initiatives incrementally.
Pedophiles and groomers have always followed where the kids are. It was the Church covering up child abuse by the pedos that had infiltrated it that gave it a bad name, to this day. The education system should remember that, and so should the unions.
