Your 15 amp house wiring will be getting pretty overheated taking a chance of house fire. Kitchen and bathroom run 20 amp power plugs as the thicker line is required. I’ve had heater wires overheating due to manufacture cheaper products has used thinner wires.
Stoves and Dryers use much thicker cable to take the capability of electricity. So, all these new electric vehicles need a new cable line to the vehicle from the main fuse panel.

Let’s say you need a 30kWHr charge, even though your car will need at least 50kW of power to drive, this would give you a 30 minute range, approximately. With a two-phase driver, and charge within 1 hour requires 125A. So, charge overnight for 5 hourse, that’s still 2-phase at 25A. Now let’s assume a realistic 90% efficiency, then that’s 138A or 28A over 5 hours.

If you own an older home, you may only have a 100 amp service to your panel. If you have all electric appliances; furnace, water heater, stove, dryer, etc., You would be up schit creek if you wanted to add any sizeable outlet for vehicle charging. Most municipalities are only responsible for power to the property line, which means you’d be responsible for building out your side of your own “grid”. If your power is delivered to your dwelling via underground cable, that means trenching to your house, with thicker main input cable, an entire new panel with a higher rated input and main breaker.
Depending on where you want to locate the receptacle, cable and special breaker to that outlet, if it’s a detached garage, you may need a new pony panel and breaker to service the EV outlet. If you are upgrading your services, you will probably have to comply with modern electrical codes, which means ground fault main or service breakers etc, etc, so you may be looking at $10-20k extra or more just to add higher amperage service to your house. If they want you (force you) to add electric instead of gas for your home heating needs; furnace, hot water heater, etc. It’s the same tune.
Now, the electricity, given the current rates, how the heck is one supposed to afford all this electricity for everything?? Not all provinces have abundant hydro electricity available… The only way is going to be to go nuclear.. The entire grid is going to need to be built up and out.. In the past, the grid was built up and out slowly, as cities got more populated, but with the fever pitch to electrify everything, the timeline is going to be compressed, to modify everything. Where is all the copper going to come from? Is the government going subsidize all this, so people can afford to do it?
I think Electrician is going to be the next boom trade to get into!

There are ‘smart’ chargers available that meter the current draw of your entire house and charge accordingly…IOW, they will charge your EV at 2-3 AM or so. Problem remains the same: you aren’t necessarily charging when you need to. EVs are just not ready yet to meet the needs of most people. Great concept…technology still needs work, as does our electrical grid.
