The bigger story is Corrections continuing to place murderers in Min security institutions, where yes, security is very lax indeed. Witness the 2 murderers that escaped Club Fed out here (William Head) and murdered a retired doctor last year. FYI, they were just convicted of the murder. Club Fed, warts and all, is designed for “low risk offenders”, generally, white collar cons, drug offenders, non-violent crimes. Except when CC thinks they can slip one by.

Hence … my suggestion that she be released to her tribe for punishment. Let her Chief mete out punishment … such as banishment to the bush with only a flint and blanket. Far from the white mans or the red man’s villages. Go FULL medieval indigenous on her ass.

Most of the northern news services I’ve read as of late have a banner of ads running down the side, the majority of ads are from gov’t entities. Very, very few real ads.
There seems to be no life in the north without gov’t aid. Some landscape type photos of it look good, but it must be a dump if everyone is a dependent.
Why didn’t those unionised federal employees stop her from walking away? Isn’t there a rule about not doing that?
Here’s the problem.
She huffed gasoline when she was most likley a young girl. In Northern Territories, that often included AV. gas that (still to this day) contains high levels of lead. (Ethyl or Tetraethyllead.) Lead in Infants and young children may contribute to behavioural problems, learning difficulties, and lower IQ due to their developing nervous systems.
My neighbour was a bush pilot who tells me that in many Northern Communities, kids would drain the hose on lakeside pumps, soak a rag with the AV gas and huff the fumes, believing that AV gas would give them more of a high than regular unleaded or Coleman fuel that was readily available North of the 55th. Add booze, drugs, blows to the head and a diet of chips and coke and what happens??
Now they blame colonialism, the RCMP, the Catholic priests and nuns, the doctors, the nurses, the government and the guards at the jail, the teachers and the white race. I’ve spent many years in AA, I’m white, and I’ve heard these stories for decades. I could write about this until I run out of of ink. And what will that ever solve the problem?? She will when she decides to take responsibility for her own shortcomings.
I feel sorry for her, however a person who is dangerous to the public and to herself and her family needs to be in a place that prevents any more carnage. I wish I could help her. And tonight, I’ll recite three Our Fathers and three Hail Mary’s especially for her. I hope the powers that rule hear my pleas. May God and company keep her safe.
