Your Moral And Intellectual Superiors

They have served the paymaster well, but the new Governor may be tiring of them.

The subsidy party for Canada’s media isn’t exactly coming to an end, but heads up, newsroom employee: the pencils are sharpening.

That’s because, as we enter the seventh year of the “temporary,” five-year Journalism Labour Tax Credit (JLTC), its also temporary three-year increase to its benefit to publishers is looking like it might actually be as transient as advertised.

When the JLTC was first introduced in 2019 under the Trudeau government, it was built to pay 25 percent of newsroom salaries up to a maximum of $55,000. That translated into $13,750 per employee earning at least that amount. But in the years leading up to and including the last federal election, that was increased to 35 percent of salaries, up to $85,000, translating to $29,750 per eligible employee. […]

But now, and alas for those who have benefited from the federal tax credit, the belts are tightening because the credit will be returning to its original 25 percent. Applied to a maximum $85,000 salary, that puts the benefit at $21,250 or $8,500 less per worker. In a newsroom with 20 qualified workers, that’s a $170,000 loss to their bottom line, which likely means jobs will disappear—potentially a 10 percent cut in the workforce.

While the Department of Heritage is soliciting input from stakeholders and experts (I was not asked) to figure out what to make of this mess, the forecast for the subsidized is grim.

  1. that puts the benefit at $21,250 or $8,500 less per worker

Amusingly, almost the same amount by which their parliamentary parasite overlords just got their salaries increased.

  2. Can someone explain why my taxes are used to subsidize anyone’s opinion on any subject, other than the obvious usefulness of State propaganda?
Subsidizing the news media corrupts and perverts it, it creates a huge financial conflict of interest.
Subsidized political opinions in the MSM is obscene and dangerous.
The herd is instructed what to think about events by the State.

How do any of the arguments promoting State news media subsidies apply to the opinion segment?

    1. They hate us and don’t trust us.
Pushing state-approved opinions on us is one of many ways they seek to control is.
Stealing our money to do it is the face slap we get for not voting them out and for not beating the living shit out of Elbows Up retards

  3. With the NDP reduced to an unparty, the media has no one to support but the Liberals. Thus no need for excessive bribes.

    1. The Legacy Media was the Lieberal Party’s lapdog long before the subsidies. It must have been a reward rather than a bribe.

      1. One of those few times in history when someone buys (and overpays), for something they already owned lock, stock and barrel.

But hey, just how much is Liberal Government forever really worth?

If you take into account the huge loss to democracy, to integrity, to trust, to honesty etc, the loss to Canada is unfathomable.

Two Communist Trudeaus, their feminine followers, a few Librano quasi-men and a cuck Media killed a country. Dead.

  4. I am reminded of the tale of the man who dies and comes before St Peter and is told that before it is determined which way he goes heaven or hell, he has to spend one day in heaven and one day in hell.
I’ll go to the punch line and replace the media presstitutes for the man.

    “That was election day”

  5. I wouldn’t give the fckers the steam of my piss, but the Liberal Forever Government can’t help but steal and bribe.

  6. All newsroom employees should have been replaced with AI crawlers. Loong time ago.
But didn’t happen because there needs to be spin, fit certain narratives ordered from above + there are polls that need to be massaged/gerrymandered.

  7. Sounds like the socialist party is getting a little fed up with legacy media’s piss-poor R.O.I.. time to rattle their cages.. The funny thing is, those dogs will continue to think they’re people, even as they’re being crated up for that trip to ‘the farm’.. I remember reading that in the Soviet’s heyday, victims of Stalin’s purges would call out to Stalin to avenge them from the wall as the NKVD shot them.. They went to their graves, believing that Stalin cared for them.. they refused to believe that it was Stalin who signed their death warrants.. I wonder if these intrepid ‘journalists’ will cry out for Comrade Commissar Carney to avenge them from the breadlines and soup kitchens, when he has them all replaced with digital boot-lickers, and ultra realistic LLM toadies and propagandists, all operating out of massive data centers in China . It would be a fitting end to that conniving lot of propagandist trash..

  8. Let’s not forget the indirect subsidy created by the government placing self-serving ads in our publications. Not a trivial amount.

    1. And they get very arrogant when you call them out for selling space or time for the government’s BS Propaganda. Similar to a dog growling when you go to pick up its dish and there’s a couple of crumbs still in the bottom.

    2. The government is paying Amazon a lot of money to put ads for “Build Canada a Self Licking Ice Cream Cone” given the number of times that it’s shown up in the last couple of sporting events I’ve watched, and they are paying for it to be served in both English and quebecoise.

  9. No one who is accepting the State’s coin can claim to be a journalist. Whore, maybe.

    1. And that is exactly what those ‘subsidies’ are.. ‘cabfare on the nightstand’.. They have earned their walk of shame..
