  1. Ok…I know it’s early in the year but that’s about the coolest thing I’ve seen yet.
I wish that could happen outside my door.

    1. That little thing would have a bunch of apples, carrots, and pea pods on the deck were it my place. Apparently it’s been wandering around the town. It must have been a late calf as it’s sure small.

      1. I’d make a mooooose shelter and give him apples in there. Front step is a little too close for a colt that’s going to mass a metric tonne later.

I do admit to allowing the odd raccoon to sleep on the front porch. No need to be a jerk, right?

  2. Not to make light of the cold weather, but I’m just curious what the indoor temp is? Because here in sunny CA I have to keep my thermostat and indoor temp set at 61deg. F … and most days the actual indoor winter temp is 64deg.F if we’re lucky.

Why? Because if we set our thermostat at 68deg.F which Jimmy Carter told us to do in 1979 … we’d have a >$1,000.00/mo. PG&E bill. And nope, I can’t burn wood … because EVERY DAY in winter is a CARB “no burn day”.

Here in sunny CA … we get RAPED (sorry) and PUNISHED for using the energy needed for a half-comfortable lifestyle.

    1. I keep my indoor temp at 18 degrees C. That’s about 64F.
I’m wearing a short sleeve T, a long sleeve T on top, and a sweatshirt on top of those.
I also have 2 dogs lying on a quilt on the floor beside me. They’re hot little booger faces.

My heating bill is around $500-600/month for 3000sq/ft house in Airdrie Alberta.
Right now it’s -14 C outside rising to -1 later in the day.
We’ll get a Chinook rolling in by about Tuesday and it may get as high as +8 by the 31st.

      1. Hey Oz – also an Airdrie resident here. I am on the ATCO monthly guaranteed rate budget plan and I average around $270 give or take a few pennies every month for a 2500sqft house. Might be worth looking into for you. It saved me a pile o’ Money.

        1. Holy crap, whats with all the Airdronians?!

Also in Airdrie, 1000 sq foot home, $232 last month, with Enmax, fixed electricity, floating gas, its not the energy, its all the damn charges, fees and riders!! Out of that $232, I used $33 in electricity and $24 in gas, so less that $60 in actual energy usage, in a older part of town!

I should also mention a heated detached garage is in play..

        2. Hey folks, my 12:10 post was out to lunch.
I just dug up and reviewed my ATCO bills and my Natgas averages about $160/month with electric at about $160/month.

          Hey, Zon.
We dumped Enmax after along relationship with them.
We caught them lying to us about our electricity costs.
My wife used to take the bus to Calgary and compare utility bills with the other riders from our neighbourhood.
Enmax used to “scare us” by writing on our bills that other homes similar size used 25% less energy.
          We knew the truth.

      2. My current indoor temp is 65degF with the thermostat set at 61degF. The outdoor temp. is 45degF. I’m wearing sweatpants, a t-shirt wrapped up in a microfiber throw blanket. My female cat is too aloof to ever sit in my lap, and lacks the size to do much body warming anyway.

Guess I need a dog or two?

    2. Might be time to admit Kali is a failed state and move to Arizona, Kenji.

You can always move back once the fruits and nuts get cleaned out. Senior citizens don’t fight on the front lines, old man. We stay in the rear and do logistics.

Also, I believe the technical term you’re looking for there is ‘pillaged.’ Remember kids, pillage first, THEN burn. ~:D

  3. Took the dog for a walk in -30C for a couple of hours yesterday. After we got home he went into the backyard for a nap.

  4. might l suggest the calf KNOWS the hoomans *may* render assistance.
they arent idjits just nervous around the ones that sometimes shoot them.
fur (get it??!) GOD’S SAKE dont let them down. these are NOT normal conditions.
