National Post- Report finds 7,000 Canadian restaurants closed last year amid rising costs, softening demand and declining alcohol sales
“Business closures do not occur when conditions deteriorate; they occur when resilience is depleted. Owners exhaust personal capital, restructure debt and postpone difficult decisions in the hope that conditions improve. For many restaurants, that hope carried them through 2023 and 2024. By 2026, the arithmetic becomes unavoidable,” the report says.

It all started with the Lockdowns!!! PERIOD!!!
totally 1000% correct……..we. used to go out every Friday night for supper for an end of the week to treat ourselves. NOW, my guess is we MIGHT go out for supper 6 times PER YEAR and that is tops…….
Yes, and throughout the Western World, a strange coincidence of identical policies being implemented globally. And then came the, not unanticipated I’m sure, inflation.
People are STILL wearing masks in public here in N.CA. Why? Because COVID taught us … by rapping our knuckles more brutally than any Catholic Nun in a Canadian Residential School … that other humans are DANGEROUS disease carrying Typhoid Mary’s. That you MUST avoid all other humans unless you have a death wish.
So why would any good little COVID compliant cretin go to a public restaurant?
I suspect it’s not just restaurants closing.
If only we could get this happening with all levels of government!!
So it isn’t my wife’s $10/5 oz. glass of Niagara region swill?
I haven’t been eating out much because of costs. I recently stopped in at my favorite restaurant and ordered my favourite spicy Korean chicken. Last time I was there and I ordered it I got a breast of chicken. This time I got an oversize chicken McNugget type pressed centre. My wife ordered her favourite orchard salad and instead of the delicious feast of assorted greens and six different fresh fruits and berries, she got iceberg lettuce with a little chopped apple and six canned mandarin orange segments. And the price was up about 15%.
We won’t be back.

For 4 1/2 years, I’ve been referring to the Increased prices, reduced portion size and reduced quality as a Covid tax.
As i stated here 4 years ago, a mortgage broker I ran into, was recommending quietly that the best thing for struggling restaurant owners was to cash out, close down and leave the country.
Proof that disposable income is being squeezed, deliberately I say, to squash the middle class. Globalist aristocrats only need servants, priests and scribes.
The one flaw is that they also need consumers in an industrial society.
