President Donald Trump on Tuesday ordered a total blockade of oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela, declaring the Nicolás Maduro regime a foreign terrorist organization and accusing it of using stolen U.S. assets to finance terrorism, trafficking and other criminal activity.
“Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America,” Trump said on Truth Social. “It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before – Until such time as they return to the United States of America all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us.
“The illegitimate Maduro Regime is using Oil from these stolen Oil Fields to finance themselves, Drug Terrorism, Human Trafficking, Murder, and Kidnapping,” he continued. “For the theft of our Assets, and many other reasons, including Terrorism, Drug Smuggling, and Human Trafficking, the Venezuelan Regime has been designated a FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.

Probably shouldn’t have conspired with the Democrats to steal the 2020 election, amirite Nicolás?
Not a problem! Venezuela will just build an oil pipeline West through Columbia. Kinda like Canada, eh?
I get what Trump is doing and good on him but every time there’s a “regime change” Canada in an act of self loathing allows itself to be on the hook for 30 or 40 thousand (Regime change country here) doctors and engineers. It just seems selfish.
Maybe it’s time to share the diversity goodness with the rest of the world.
God Bless President Trump. This is what people voted for.
SMASH MARXISTS POS in our hemisphere and maybe look north to our Hellhole of Elbows Up FILTHY LIBERALS and FREE US!
The Monroe Doctrine is brilliant. Cuba next.
Canada next, Then Islam. ALL OF THEM. Gone.
Imagine OUR Paradise. …no FILTHY LIBERALS
So much for less foreign adventurism.
Since when did actual protection of our people become ‘foreign adventurism’?
And even if one could call it that, it certainly seems a much better adventure than going off to Eastern Europe to go fight Russians, which is what your government appears to be signalling as a proper adventure for non-recent immigrant Canadians.
Silly KM … we are killing them over there … before they kill us over here! That’s what George Bush instructed. And then we flooded our nation with sleeper cells through 4-long years of Obama “Biden” … so there’s that. I voted for THIS … I did not vote for THAT.
I llve how you leap to Trump’s defense at even the mildest perceived slight.
PS … these operations are taking place in The Gulf of America … so it’s not a “foreign” adventure.
No they are not, the Gulf of America doesn’t extend close to Venezuela.
About 1500 km from the Gulf of Mexico, but whatever.
Now … it’s only a matter of time before Trump declares the Caribbean Sea simply The Gulf of America – South … since it is all a contiguous and continuous body of water. And also when Venezuela becomes another American protectorate off the Caribbean … since we’re gonna OWN all the oil we developed again. Yeah … Gulf of America – Southern. Hahaha … I amuse myself … even when making an error.
Bad news for Canadian oil sands stocks if the Maduro regime is overthrown and replaced with a more American-friendly one.
In the short term, this embargo should spike the price of oil. I notice oil stocks are up marginally today.
In the long term, much of their semi-refined heavy oil could be sent to the US for final refining, possibly replacing bitumen oil from Canada. And even if it’s still refined in China and India, Venezuela’s oil output would increase, driving down the price of oil.
Well, that is a distinct possibility and advantage for us.
I notice my oil stocks are up too! While simultaneously the price of gasoline throughout America is falling to pre-Biden levels. That’s what I call the sweet spot.
Our winter vacay on Bonaire ought to be fun. For those who don’t know, Bonaire is a Dutch island 80km off the coast of Venezuela. The airspace around it is Dutch, but the US is flying all sorts of high-speed, low drag, armed hardware around and through it, mostly without transponders being switched on. It’ll make for an interesting approach and departure on our Westjet flights.
Considering where it’s at, perhaps you could/should find another tropical island paradise on which to celebrate you vacation.
I can’t believe any commercial airline would be stupid enough to continue flying to a destination such as that. Wait, no, no I can.
You should probably worry more about private planes that are…traveling for reasons… though. And perhaps the mighty Venezuelan Air Force.
And we’re not going to turn on our transponders because of some vacationers insistence on going there, especially after a clear warning to not fly in that operational space was given.
You do know Westjet has gotten scrutiny before due to drug smuggling, right?
Cheaper than Aruba or Curaçao ?
What does the orange pussy do when a Chinese carrier group accompanies a few Chinese tankers? He’ll fold as usual.
China has 2 ready carriers (Soviet era designs) and one undergoing sea trials now. When the shouting at drug couriers started between the USA and Venezuela, both Russia and China didn’t have much to say, it’s a long way from their sea of influence.
China did lend a large sum of money to Venezuela more than a decade ago, with Venezuela paying them back with oil exports… about 80% of their exports go there but as some oil carriers have fictitious flags and registry it’s impossible to know where the oil is headed. Venezuela is still indebted to China for this. Keep in mind too, the Venezuela crude oil is heavy and sour so it can’t be sold everywhere, the US Gulf Coast refineries can process it.

When Baker Hughes, Schlumberger, and Halliburton wound down and “mostly” exited the Venezuelan market (16 years ago?) two of these were owed more than $1 Billion… the Venezuelan Gov’t didn’t have the money (having spent it giving handouts to their citizens but also pedaling influence so countries like Iran would build vehicles in Venezuela) … it’ll take awhile for them to recover those oil fields, maybe a few years.
Venezuela had $1 Billion in the bank last week, this standoff will be finished very shortly. Maybe 1-2 weeks more until they’re essentially “broke” and a month before the gov’t can’t pay or feed their military.
Venezuela’s military is more top heavy than Canada’s, about 110k regular members but with 2000 generals and admirals. None of them want to quit working for the gov’t and get real jobs.

To declare the government of a foreign country a “foreign terrorist organization” is de facto a declaration of war.
