  1. As usual, the brain dead aren’t keeping up with reality. Trump imposed COUNTER TARIFFS on those countries that had tariffs on the U.S. Funny how tariffs are bad for workers and businesses in the U.S., but not in those countries that had previously imposed tariffs on the U.S.

Those on the left are economic mental cases. Dumb as posts.

  2. Did a quick AI search and discovered Reagan initiated tarrifs against 16 different countries, plus a worldwide tarrif on all sugar imports. Why he made the tv announcement about Japanese semiconductor tarrifs and not abour Canadian softwood lumber and cedar shakes, I don’t know

  3. Everyone with a brain knows that tariffs are a drag on free enterprise, and are thus “bad.”

But we also know that sometimes the alternatives are worse.

And that was the entire point of the Reagan vid. “We don’t normally love tariffs, but they are the right answer here and now.”

  4. Fine Canada … dismantle ALL your tariffs and trade barriers to American products and services.

Yeah … didn’t think so … because Pierre Trudeau was a fan of sticking it to the USA, eh?

    1. “… because Pierre Trudeau was a fan of sticking it to the USA, eh?”

PET was also a fan of sticking it to Alberta.
Every time he put the boots to Alberta, the polls in eastern Canada spiked.

  5. President Reagan, not Trump (take note Wobbly Kanoe), is who that in 1983 imposed a 45% import tariff on Japanese motorcycles over 700cc in engine size to help save Harley-Davidson.

      1. 700 cc.

That’s why Japan’s 750’s all turned into 700’s in the US. Canada and the world got 750’s still.

Insurance was why 998cc, big price jump at 1000cc and up.

“Honda did not produce a 700cc version of the 1983 Nighthawk 750 (CB750SC) in that specific model year for the U.S. market. The transition to 700cc engines was a direct response to the 1983 U.S. import tariff on motorcycles with engine displacements greater than 700cc, which became effective on April 2, 1983.” (Google AI)

  6. The NDiPpers loath anything good, righteous, and moral. They are as bad as the US democrats with abortion, capitalism, socialism/communism, and BIG government.

  7. There are two forces at opposition here and the Trump administration is trying to restore a balance.

Comparative advantage demands products be produced in the lowest cost and most efficient jurisdiction but national security demands essential industries and food production be nearby and under local control.

There has to be a delicate balance between these two forces and it is not a constant equilibrium. Circumstances change due to politics and technology.

There’s a good reason that we see castles and fortifications around the world dating back as long as history.
They were obviously built with great expense and effort and remain silent testament to the fact that societies have always found it necessary to protect themselves from outside forces.

Tariffs have their place if employed strategically. They provide a walled garden to protect essential industries or as Warren Buffett called it, a moat. And they do raise needed revenue.

    Col. Wilkerson quote …
“… But let me give you what really bothers me about him and about Trump in general. I I get this report, the salary report from Katherine Austin Fitz every quarter. And while I don’t always agree
with everything Katherine talks about, she has got a real good insight into what’s happening in our economy and in the global economy. And you’ll note what she titled this. This is the most succinct appraisal of Donald Trump’s
    economic, trade, security, foreign policy.

Plunder. Plunder. One word. That’s the name of what his economic and trade policy is, as well as all the others. And that’s what we’re that that’s what we’re about as a global empire. We’re about plundering the world and plundering our own people and all for the benefit of a select few who are going to gain from this. The one at the top of the list right now, screamingly at the top of the list, is Jared Kushner making billions and billions of dollars
off what is one of the greatest tragedies the world’s seen. Certainly, I think the greatest tragedy may be matched by Sudan in the opening of the 21st century.

They’re making money. They’re plundering everything they can possible plunder. And as Larry indicated, when they came up against Xi Jinping, he said, “You ain’t plundering me.” And Putin has been saying all along, “You ain’t plundering me either.” Uh, so we got a real problem. And none of these people seem to realize it. None of these cabinet officers seem to realize. The United States has a significant problem. The policy we’re putting forward to the world is not welcome. …”

    1. Yeah … “Plunder”. That sums up Trump’s tariff strategy. Oh! And toss Jared Kushner in the mix. I don’t consider opinions that consist of accusations of ‘pirate greed and theft’ to be the least bit rational or informative. Total trash.

    1. Dairy farmers in Ontario are protected by the Milk Marketing Board which is in essence a tariff.

The first attempt at the US debt erasure were the failed Trump Tariffs in which the US would force the rest of the world to pay it’s $35T debt by virtue of the tariffs.

Since the tariffs have failed , Trump has moved on to use Bitcoin : US plan to nullify the $35T debt on the world’s dime using Bitcoin.

  9. The NDP citing President Ronald Reagan as an example of how to lead is a clear sign that in the grand overview of how the right is doing, “we’re winning” though it’s hard to tell in tier 2 Canada at the moment.

Somewhere, there’s a group of folks keeping track of statements from the left which include exactly what Premier Kinew has said in his original X/Tweet above. The provincial NDP parties are part of the federal NDP party, as outlined in their party’s constitution. This will pay off well in the coming election.

The Canadian dairy industry will be thrilled to comment on this, and I’ll bet a kidney they respond with, “that’s not what Premier Kinew meant” …
