Trump Rule Sidelines 6,000 Truckers Over English Tests
The Trump administration’s enforcement of a strict English-proficiency requirement for commercial truck drivers forced about 6,000 drivers off the road this year amid rising tensions with state governments over compliance, The Washington Post reported.
Under a May 2025 policy issued by Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, roadside inspections must now begin in English, and drivers suspected of lacking language proficiency may face a two-step evaluation. Failure results not just in a citation but immediate out-of-service designation.

The more that highways departments use lit billboards to inform drivers of traffic changes the more incidents there will be because of language barriers.
It does not matter how technically awesome a driver can maneuvering a big rig, if they cannot understand the signs and directions, someone is going to get hurt, or much worse.

Here in CA … these truckers get registered to vote in their native language when they obtain (by cheating) their CA commercial drivers licenses which they also obtain in their native language.

They don’t have to cheat. The guy who killed a whole family in Florida last month properly understood one (1) road sign out of four during the “testing” that California subjected him to. If they are breathing California gives them a CDL.
The testers also provide the answers.
