We won’t be screwed again

The Churchill Falls agreement in the 1970s was one of the most lopsided imaginable, with Quebec getting thousands of megawatts of energy for a fixed price that today is so negligible to be almost considered free. Yet Newfoundland has all but starved in the decades hence. That agreement is now being renegotiated and was a major point in Tuesday’s election.

In other words, the Newfies just voted for a government that’s not going to let them get screwed again.

And for perspective, at 5428 megawatts, Churchill Falls is capable of producing more power than every single generator in Saskatchewan – coal, natural gas, wind, solar, hydro, biomass and the kitchen sink – combined.

  1. Thing was in the 1960’s inflation was not even imagined for the most part so it never entered into the discussions. In the 70’s gubmint discovered that it can steal money through inflation and the rest is history. They been doing it ever since and now that it has destroyed the economy, funding gubmint through inflation is the only thing left. That is what happened to this power deal.

    1. Yeah….the word “progressive” bothers me in general in politics……the word sounds so soft and positive but it is really newspeak for “Marxist”.

  2. Quebec needs its ass kicked in so many ways…..I sincerely hope that the dairy cartels get the crap kicked out of them during the upcoming USMCA renegotiations. Quebec is a parasite and always has been.

    1. and thats because troc has catered to them and voted for all the p.m. s they sent to us.

Canaduhians NEVER do anything unless *someone else* already has.
timid. sheeple. always needing to be ‘led’ by a ‘strong leader’.

  3. I’ve soured upon Canadian “conservatives” for many decades. The moment I see “Progressive” attached, I naturally assume they’re just Woke Sh#tLibs.

  4. The sheer magnitude of Quebec’s “free rider” status within Confederation really is hard to grasp. It’s no wonder that they use the threat of separation as a prybar to get ever-greater amounts of goodies from the RoC. Probably why Central Canada is genuinely uncomfortable with the possibility of western separation, since its motivation is primarily to get a better deal outside of Confederation.

  5. Newfoundland would be a lot better off using their electricity for high energy industries instead of giving it to Quebec. Maybe building aluminum smelters would work but it might still be hard to compete with China.
