He got his facts wrong. Manufacturing was hollowed out in Canada due to the cruddy Nafta deal signed by the Chrétien government. I grew up in a factory town, with a number of plants making unrelated goods, automotive, large pipe, small fittings, etc. After Nafta, the Americans simply bought up the plants and shut them down, moving production to the US and Mexico. My brother had a career building modern assembly lines as Canadian factories were always updating their technology in order to stay competitive. By the end, the only work he could get was as a project manager to help disassemble the lines he built and ship them down to the southern states or Northern Mexico.
BTW, I’m not “anti-free trade.” The Free Trade deal negotiated by the Mulroney government was a boon for Canada. It was the basis for the deep integration of manufacturing between the northern states and Ontario + Quebec. It was the basis for significant wealth creation for both countries.
I hope he informs Carnage that the liberation of long suffering SDA patriots is not a question of if, but when.
Brace yourselves Canadian auto workers. Your anti american, anti Trump union president coupled with Carney’s indifference will have you down and out before Christmas.
Maybe Ford will put on a show for the Elbows Up crowd by taking a sledge hammer to an American made car.
Would that be an American brand of car assembled in Ontario?
Assembled from parts made across N. Am. and the world.
It’ll be whatever Ford says it is and the Elbows Up crew will lap it up like Pavlov’s dogs.
It wouldn’t shock me in the least if he replaced the contents of his Crown Royal bottle with caramel coloured water and had the whiskey sent home before his theatrical debut.
Crown Royal is whisky.
Whiskey is rot-gut corn liquor.
There is a difference, thus different spellings.
From the WSJ:
The shift saw Canada’s longstanding goods-trade surplus with the U.S. narrow to C$6.43 billion from C$7.42 billion a month earlier.
With exports to countries other than the U.S. down 2%, and imports up 4.2% to a record high, Canada’s deficit with non-U.S. countries widened to roughly C$12.8 billion from C$11.2 billion.
Earlier preliminary data showed the Canadian economy flatlined in August following July’s modest 0.2% rise in industry-level gross domestic product from the month before, the first expansion in four months. Economists anticipate annualized growth of less than 1% in the third quarter following a sharper-than-anticipated contraction of 1.6% in the second quarter.
Trade policy under the Trump administration is weighing on demand for Canadian goods and services. The Bank of Canada, which last month lowered its policy interest rate in an effort to revive the economy and a weakening job market, has warned that growth remains at risk from ongoing trade and political uncertainty.
When international trade in goods and international trade in services were combined, Canadian exports fell 2.3%, while imports rose 0.7%. As a result, Canada’s trade surplus incorporating both goods and services widened to C$5.98 billion from C$3.45 billion in July.
Trump doesn’t care about the Spankster or Canada, he cares about his country.
And that’s what bothers the Elbows Up crowd of droolers so much.
They don’t matter to him.
And when you have an inferiority complex that can’t be overcome even with 50 years of Liberal agit-prop, its infuriating.
The Spankster is seeking tariff relief on autos and steel. Think he’ll get it?
